I'm a newish fan (less than 5 years) and I've heard stew mention he didn't have an offer from kawi at the end of 07. That seems insane to me. Was it because of how much bonus $ they were paying out?
And to piggy back off that if Jett just keeps winning everything does he almost become too expensive to keep?
They moved Villopoto up from 250s. They put all their eggs in that basket… he was coming off 3 outdoor 250 titles in a row & 1 sx title? Correct me if I’m wrong on that. Considering RV went on to win 4 450 sx titles in a row & 2 outdoor titles. James won 1 more sx title in 09. I’d say the eggs hatched alright.
Because of Villo, in those times it was hard to find two good guys in one team
It was 09 and I don’t think any team in that economy was going to float an RV and Stewart at the same time, I don’t know how the PC deal is with Kawi but I’m sure Pc took a large budget back then when they were a guarantee of the 250 titles almost every year
Kinda have to wonder what Stew’s career might have looked like without that early YZ
Kawi made the right decision for sure

It was because factory kawi went full monster and James wanted to wear his Red Bull helmet. He rode with monster logos the last season on kawi then back to redbull as soon as he left.
kawi desired to back RV over resigning Stew, (after issues with the Redbull sponsorship, and other issues)
history proved they were right backing RV and Monster,
It wasn’t because of RV, it was 100% over Monster and how bad he burned that bridge.
It’s easy to say that now but the 2010, 2011, 2012 season for JS7 was severely impacted from the worst 450 motocross bike produced in modern times. Had seats been reversed the results could have been significantly different.
End of the day I think it was more monster than kawasaki.
Really wish he'd gone to Honda.
Seems they were fishing for him pretty heavily for awhile. There are pics of him, at the Stewart compound, with some Honda loaners sitting around.
Before he signed with Kawasaki, Honda brought their rig out to his compound to test their bike.
Of Stewy had no intentions of signing with them, his dad was using them as leverage.
What would’ve happened if Stewy followed Kawasakis plan, and rode his first 3 years with Mitch? I think we would’ve seen a different guy.
