Yeah it is really windy in ca. even the La area. High winds too .  I,ve been all Ovr ca. I think the weather & basically being there is really miserable. If you grew up in the desert those people seem to like the state.  Things you don’t think about like the extremely dry air & every inch of the west looks the same, no water like lakes or rivers. I can’t stand being in the dry air . The dirt is like moon dust. Why would you want to ride in it ? I get along with people everywhere. But you hv to jump start ca. people a little more to get them up & going, laughing or working.  There super chill. Lack of good looking women big time.

You've been all over Ca. and couldn't find a lake or river? California is a big state, you needed to try a little harder.

You could be right. I might be recovering from my week of La area pu & deliveries yet. It was so windy 1 night a mattress 20 ft in the air flew ovr me in 20.   94 we hhg drilled on the Camp Pendleton base . We punched out by the airport under a river that had no water in it.  I guess there’s some women there I did score. Ny. & Vt. I saw countless rivers & lakes. That’s just what I like i guess. Gps wanted me to cross a lk today on a ferry. I found another way the last exit in America. Then crossed 2 big lakes .IMG 8446

Is there specific spots in the desert to ride? Locations to look for? Riding year around would be nice.

Dove Springs (up off the 14) is my old favorite, but you need to get away from the popular spots like the sand pit to enjoy it. Couple really fun single tracks in the mountains there.

I agree on Dove Springs. If you like desert, that's the place to go camp and hill climb and trails like no other place I've been.

Have you ever been to Spangler Hills/Teagle Wash/Charlies Place ?

Now if you like Hill  climbs you will love that area !!

We used to ride from straight out of Kyle Lewis's garage to some of his outdoor tracks and turn tracks near the end of Ave M.  There is still some great riding out there, but there's been a lot of development with solar farms and residential.   I'm sure if you look on google earth near the end of Ave M and L, and start exploring west you will see a lot of trails/tracks.  Kyle also had his supercross track out in that valley that we used to ride.

Some of my favorite trail riding is not too far away from that location.  Massive hill climbs, outdoor tracks, scenic trails, etc.  There's a ton of great riding nearby so if that's what you are looking for it's a great spot to live for a Moto family.  Jawbone Canyon is not too far either. Just know it gets hot as hell out there in the summer and it gets pretty cold (for California) there in the winter.   There are some decent neighborhoods that keep you away from the trashy areas.

I rode those tracks a lot. Unfortunately solar farms are getting closer and closer to the area and a lot of not so respectful people rode there a lot and seems to be a huge bust. Those tracks were a ton of fun though. Also the rains we got this last winter absolutely ruined all the tracks in the area. Would take some work to fix them. We need more rain first.

Yeah it sucks for riding up here in the PNW in the winter. But, honestly I'd rather have to deal with that than moving anywhere in...

Disagree. I lived in the Portland metro for 5 years, would way rather live in SoCal

Why's that?

Better weather, better riding, I can surf in SoCal, a lot of areas (the ones I would want to live in) have less of a crime and homeless problem. I also have family down there and none in the PNW. It's a nice place that is expensive for a reason

Nah, it's horrible here. Stay away everyone! You wouldn't know what to do with yourselves between moto, desert, mountain biking, snow skiing, and surfing in a brisk month like January. Cool

Out of curiosity, I understand there is very little public land in Texas? How is the off-road scene?

Probably great if you know a guy who owns land. If you do the land is probably flat with no trees on it. Texas is over 99% private land I believe

I'm down here right now as we speak for a week long vacation. I seriously don't understand the appeal. It's good to visit, but for living? No thanks. So far from what I've seen just being here a week: Bad/rough roads, traffic on traffic, people aren't the nicest, taxes on taxes, expensive, crime, pollution and litter everywhere, absurd gun laws, wildfires, did I mention expensive?

Yeah that’s what I understand too. We put together hundred mile days when we ride in Nor Cal and even bigger days when we ride the SoCal dez.

Different strokes. Couldn't pay me to live in Portland/Tigard/Beaverton/Gresham

Sounds a little dramatic for Palm Springs. Drive up the hill to Idyllwild and tell us what you think.

Yeah sounds like a dude who just hates life. If you think Palm Springs traffic is bad then probably avoid LA, Houston, Dallas, Chicago, Denver, SLC, Seattle, San Fran, San Antonio, Orlando & any other city in America. I know people who no matter what, just find a way to see the worst in things & I know people who see the best in things.

Two people can look at the same thing & see it completely different.

Hopefully you find something joyful on your vacation. Like the guy above said maybe head up the mountain or out into the desert!
