X2. I don't see anyone except XC guys riding an XC bike. Lots and lots of motocross, downhill MTB, and average Joes on Enduro or Trail MTBs, though. It's a much more satisfying crossover from moto, for sure, and still a great workout.

120-150 bikes have gotten alot better as xc bikes and are really the goldilocks bike but it really comes down to what kind of terrain you're riding. East of the Mississippi there's some places to get rowdy for a while but most of the time you are only dealing with a few hundred feet of elevation loss at a time. We don't climb fire roads then bomb the downhill like you do in California.

But Lots of DH gravity parks east of the Mississippi, and a huge amount of fast American DH kids coming out of the race series thats running out east. Lots of them race moto also

You're right, there's been alot more development of gravity trails in the last even 5 years, but I've passed alot of guys riding all mountain bikes on xc trails when I'm riding my hardtail or 120 bike. This is where the n+1 problem comes into focus.

Actual mountain biking, downhill rugged terrain, is similar to moto and lots of fun. Mountain biking here in the Midwest is just exercise.

Alright guys. I’ve gotten some pedals for it too now. It came with some stickers and they were alright but wow the new PNW ones I went with are great. I went to the LBS (see, I’m cool I know the lingo) and got the derailleur adjusted also and the shifting is perfect now. Been riding around the house mostly hitting some descents off of big dirt piles and construction sites, hopping off bridges down the hillsides and it’s really fun. It is definitely NOT moto. It does not scratch the same itch at all. What it does is scratch a different itch that is similar and that is worth a lot to me. I hope that makes sense. I’m headed out on the first outing with it this weekend too. I’ve got some knee guards and will be running vans and some slimmer Seven Vox pants that aren’t quite right for moto.
overall I’m pretty stoked. It’s serving its purpose. Oh, and you were all right: I think I’ve already managed to pop a tube in like 2 hours LMAO. Tubeless kit is already at the house anyways.

Short answer... It's better than nothing but it's just not the same.

That new itch will need scratching a lot, new things are fun!

Dude you ain’t gona buy a bike and shred like you probably do on your moto bike. It takes lots and lots of riding to use that bike to its potential. And it just gets better and better as you ride more.

Exactly and you can’t judge anything riding a construction site. Get on a ride and suffer on a climb for 30 mins and then enjoy a 15 min decent down.

I have an awesome mtn bike park 7 minutes from my house and with the ease of travel, maintenance and the fun factor involved, I’d say my mtn bikes have topped my Mx bikes now as they are just sitting and collecting dust. IMG 8699.jpeg?VersionId=hwf8UxrGHX9tGXZxlrcJT

Same satisfaction as Moto? 100%

I refer to things like this in all of my previous comments. Amazing feeling, especially when you need to use brakes to modulate speed, despite not pedaling at all.

Buddy you have to run the right pressures. 20-25 front 25-30 rear. Check before every ride.

I'm to the point now where I've sold my moto bikes and strictly mountain bike.

There are probably 5-6 trails within an hour of my house, yearly passes to the metro/state parks totals like $50, and the bike needs minimal maintenance compared to moto.

Every time I went to ride moto it was a 2+ hour drive, at least $200, and hours of cleaning and maintenance on the bike afterwards.

Don't get me wrong I still love moto but at this point in my life I'm enjoying MTB more.

Wait till you get an ebike, same amount of effort with 5x times the area covered

Unfortunately E-Bike's aren't widely accepted in my area. Only 1 trail locally allows them as of now.

I pinched it last week and I lied to myself and as soon as i started riding the really really slow leak opened up and I got to pushin.

I'm ready now. The wheels I have were completely tubeless ready from the factory so I poured in sealant, swapped valves, and we're good!

I mean how do they enforce that? Just say you were riding with it turned off lmao

Long time MXer here. Starting racing when I was 11, turned pro when I was 18 and have raced and ridden on and off now into my 60's. Starting riding MTB at 55. I live in the suburbs near Houston. From my garage and have two trail systems that are within 3 miles of my house. Plus I work from home about half the time and can go out for a ride almost anytime I want.

When I'm on the road I always take my MTB with me and have ridden trails all over Texas and neighboring states the last 6 years. When ever I have a work trip I always try to make sure my travels take me through Bentonville!

Almost zero prep time and maintenance is the biggest advantage. With moto its constant maintenance and then there is the time to load up everything, head to the track, unload, load back up when done, head back home and unload.

I can plan a days worth of work and still fit in a MTB ride in most of the time.

The other big advantage is the cost. I bought an almost new Specialized Epic for $900 in 2017. Have spent less than $1000 in 6 years on it. Plus there is almost never a cost to ride at the trails.

My wife has been riding a eMTB for 6 years now and I just upgraded her to a full suspension model. Took it for a spin the other day and the "cheater bike" was almost like riding a motocross bike in the woods. Definitely one in my near future to go along with my "acoustic" MTB.

Even when you go tubeless, carry a tube and pump in your car just incase, so your day isn't a bust for just a flat.

The thing I miss a lot about my motocross bike is how forgiving the suspension is. Mtb has come a long way but there’s still no comparison really. You do leave the trails on a buzz similar to moto though often which is kind of similar.

It was 14° and snowing at my parents house this Christmas, and all I wanted to do was get my new bike out so that's a good sign! 😂 Making a list of all the trails I'm going to try and ride this year!

IMG 0546Anyone in the DFW area that wants to have a shred sesh, let’s do it! Northshore trails on lake grapevine is my backyard. 20 miles of aggressive XC trails w/ zero elevation gain.
I will say this. Comparatively, there is a rhythm that comes w/ speed in mtbing that is very “zone” familiar w/ moto. Being in that zone/rhythm is what it’s all about for me.
You have to be willing to suffer in order to achieve this, but once your fitness aligns w/ a fast pace, you are set! Let’s ride.
