I agree with him. Why would you let a team manager vote who has riders that will have to line up against Joey? This fucking sport sometimes..
Its friggin ridiculous. I’m glad he spoke up, too often in this sport they force riders to keep their mouths shut and get in line. This stupid rule is only affecting 2 guys and directly taking money out of their pocket. They needs to show that yes they enforce the rules, but also can bend on something when its completely egregious. Refusing to bend on this just makes them look like jackasses.
You think crazy things like this are new for the AMA?
Another one for the the list of AMA fiascos.
It is friggin ridiculous. The other way round.
Rules are rules, the same for everyone, you don't change them because it's convenient to someone -except to kick out polish guys riding kitchen appliances.
And yeah, sure, team managers are terrified by Savtagy's comeback on the Triumph.

Might be time for a contract attorney
I think it's ridiculous it's still a regional class with any restrictions.
They need to unify the point out rules between the nationals and supercross. It doesn’t matter which way they go, just make it the same in both series. The fact that we have guys sitting out the sx series, then riding the 250 class outdoors is crazy.
I was really hoping 'the situation' was regarding the Hooters event
Other than Joey, who is doing this?
I don't think Savatgy or Marchbanks should be racing 250's anymore and I think simple and fair rules would exclude them and make the 250 class what its supposed to be, a place for young riders to come up and show what they got, then move on to the 450's None of this sangbaggin stuff, or racing 10 years in 450's then going back etc.
All that said, specifically excluding them when the rules not longer apply to them doesn't make any sense either, then letting a handful of team managers vote, vs say the entire AMA membership just shows how corrupt the whole system really is.
He can ride SX on 450.
Couldn't he ride the triumph 250 in the 450 class? Now that would gain some publicity.
I agree with him. With the current rules, he wouldn't have pointed out. He was forced to move up because of the old rules that have now been changed, making him eligible under current rules.
Justin Cooper did it this year.
I can't imagine why the other manufactures would vote to make it harder for a new manufacture to compete in the class.
Let Sethvatgy ride!
Who cares if it's on a 250? These are professionals. If you can't handle the competition, you don't belong in the pro divisions on either size bike.
This isn’t Nam, there are rules here people.
The answer to this is to get rid of the regions and make the 250sx class wide open like the nationals.
Triumph knew Joey couldn’t ride SX when they signed him.
Pit Row
Except the rule doesnt exist anymore.
They should make the 250 class wide open but cap the salaries at 50k plus purse. You want to make real money? Move to the premier class
It's like a reverse grandfathered in rule . A grandfathered out rule .
It does, they've just changed the way it works since Joey got bumped.
Kinda sucks for Joey but I don't have much sympathy for McElrath as he lied and took dives to stay eligible.
Not sure why people who have riders in the game should not have "voted," whatever than means. JS doesn't have any less skin in the game wanting his way than those teams do.
At least they voted. Remember when Steve Whitlock was in charge and just made shit up as he went?
except for the fact that the futures program feld does, is now a place for young riders to come up and show what they got.
the 250 class is a pro class. get rid of the age, point, whatever other restrictions there are.
limit the purse money and that could be incentive to move up.
just my opinion.
That's fair too, and I would be fine if that's how it was ran, but they seem to want to have it both ways. Basically the just fit the rules to create whatever situation they want based on the current crop of riders. The big teams don't want to give up their younger talent but don't yet have a place for them on 450's so instead of making them bump up and move to a satellite team they screw with the rules. Then when a satellite team tries to take advantage of it and move a b-tier rider back to the 250's they change the rules again.
I don't think the futures is really replacing what the 250's are supposed to be so much as encroaching on what amature MX is supposed to be.
"Then when a satellite team tries to take advantage of it and move a b-tier rider back to the 250's they change the rules again. "
Got some examples of this happening?
This sport turns into more of a circus every year....
Friese
Why would rules be retroactive?
