These racers know the risk. That’s what makes Baja different from every other race.  I’ve done the race and knew what I was getting myself into, and I accepted it.  If I had the funds I’d go back every year.  It’s like nothing else I’ve ever done.  Yes it sucks that help is so far away, but it is what it is.

Its fucking life or death for the dudes at the pointy end.

Time for SCORE to be better. We lost one of the best to ever do it without medical help there. This kid went 6 hours and the only thing that got him out was private teams making it happen. SCORE was nowhere to be found.

If they can guarantee a helicopter gets to you quickly at Dakar they damn sure should be able to figure it out in Baja.

If you race an enduro in the Rocky Mountains it’s the same deal. Hell. I had a buddy that got thrown off a horse elk hunting in Colorado a couple of years ago and he spent the night on the side of a mountain with a shattered hip. We all know the risk.

It is, but they don't work with SCORE at all to my knowledge.

From what I've gathered, you have to have a twin engine helicopter to be legal to fly after dark in Mexico and SCORE doesn't pony up for that.

It's been clear for years that SCORE doesn't give a fuck about the bikes, it's kinda surprising they even keep running them.

When I got stranded during the 500 my own team had to figure out a way to get me out. Ended up waiting 4 hours, luckily my only issues were heat exhaustion and severe dehydration. They got to me before things got really dangerous,

Update from mark at SLR. It sounds like a lot of what people were reading wasn’t true about the situation. I couldn’t imagine having a friend go through that. Hopefully we hear some good news about kade soon

Wow, sounds like score is not really providing much medical cover

to me. Racing Baja is like the isle of Mann tt ,  you know the risks , but at least the tt sends a ambulance for you

6+ hours to get medical help in the year 2023 is unacceptable.  SCORE needs to be better.  They should be fucking ashamed.

Agreed. For a race this big that is unacceptable. Kade is an awesome dude, did an interview with him and met him at the Ridgecrest NGPC series and he is as solid as they come. I get that the race is “gnarly” but it shouldn’t take over 9 hours to get medical attention.

All you “they knew the risks” guys should be sure to let 7x 1,000 champ Mark Samuels know that it’s all good that it took 9 hours to get his guy out and SCORE had fuck all to do with it.

What a fucking travesty.

If that was some no name privateer they’d still be laying there for all SCORE cares.

It’s honestly sickening to think how long it took him to get any help whatsoever, and it being his team and no one else was there to help. How is that even ok.

On a side note, thank God for Starlink. It’s a life saver, especially, out in remote areas. For the most part, everyone was able to stay connected with internet on demand. Wish it was available when KC66 was racing a decade ago.

Some serious negligence from SCORE. I hope Kade pulls through. Been thinking about it all day. IMG 1985 0

Don’t blame Score for Kurt’s death, nobody even knew he was down, and he probably wouldn’t have made it with immediate care anyways.
