From what I've gathered, you have to have a twin engine helicopter to be legal to fly after dark in Mexico and SCORE doesn't pony up for that.
It's been clear for years that SCORE doesn't give a fuck about the bikes, it's kinda surprising they even keep running them.
Been following him. He's dropped back a few spots but still running strong, just about to pass RM1000!
Freaking legendary. For sure he hasn't slept since maybe Tuesday night. One of the coolest things about this though is how the entire off-road community is working together to get him to the finish since he has no chase crew. One of the coolest stories of this year's race for sure.
This is the sort of thing that only happens in stories. I mean what an absolute legend to even try and make it to the line let alone make it so far

That's not SCORE - that's just Mexico/BC. You don't get to fly in Baja at night.
I've read that a twin engine heli can fly at night but SCORE doesn't want to put the resources toward that.

Sounds like he lost those spots because he got turned around was going the wrong way for awhile, what an animal. How about just buying a bike in San Diego and riding it to La Paz period. And then race 1300 miles (Longer after his detour) . Respect. What a Badass !
I really hope Vital, PulpMX, Gypsy Tales or someone gets an interview with this legend.
And you're right, looks like he got turned around at RM 935 and backtracked all the way to 919 before correcting, so an extra 32 miles or so. He's averaging about 29 mph so, with stopping to check his map and maybe ask for directions, he easily lost about an hr there.
Also, keep in mind, it's not like he bought a KTM 450 Rally that's fully prepped for this sort of thing. He's on what looks like a pretty clapped out old KTM with painted on numbers.
I reached out to Kade's dad (who lives in Toronto Canada ) via email and received this back at 12:50pm PST.........
I woke up to the news this morning. He crashed yesterday around 4 PM. He is in a coma but in stable condition. Right now he is at the hospital in San Diego.
Scripps Mercy Hospital ICU trauma care unit. Right now he is getting another scan. We should know soon if the bleeding is under control. I will update you as soon as I know.

These racers know the risk. That’s what makes Baja different from every other race. I’ve done the race and knew what I was getting myself into, and I accepted it. If I had the funds I’d go back every year. It’s like nothing else I’ve ever done. Yes it sucks that help is so far away, but it is what it is.
I don’t feel “they know what they are getting into” cuts it anymore. This ain’t the 90s.

Time for SCORE to be better. We lost one of the best to ever do it without medical help there. This kid went 6 hours and the only thing that got him out was private teams making it happen. SCORE was nowhere to be found.
If they can guarantee a helicopter gets to you quickly at Dakar they damn sure should be able to figure it out in Baja.
That would require Roger Norman to give a fuck about the bikes regardless.

I think it’s pretty slow speed and Rocky where he’s at right now.
I couldn’t imagine how frustrating the more technical rocky stuff would be at this point. Completely depleted with zero sleep, I imagine any adrenaline he had has been long gone by now. I’m hoping for the best 👍
