GH28 Added a reply to Thoughts on tomac getting a cable at KTM?
10/31/2025 2:59pm I'm talking about boiling the fluid in the LINE, not heating up the plates. The line runs right next to a header and next to radiators. I haven't managed to boil a steel braided cable yet, no matter how hard I try.

10/28/2025 8:59pm I have managed to boil a hydraulic clutch line before and the lever engagement went away entirely. I have yet to do that to a cable.

4/23/2024 3:48pm The bladder will only grow to the size allowable by the incompressible fluid on the other side of it, and any air that may still remain in the fluid. This is where there's opportunity for a lot of variability depending on who's installing it and how they're establishing the bladder volume (fill to a few psi before closing system, don't...

4/23/2024 11:02am The swingarm will stop against the lower part of the main frame pinching the chain slider if the shaft were to separate from the body. Most likely the spring would still be contained. The violent bounce near the end is the lack of rebound damping. No fluid = no damping. That's also why I think the reservoir failed, instead of...

GH28 Added a reply to Integrity inspection for factory riders parts?
4/22/2024 8:41am Yes and yes. There are a lot of settings they do internally that aren't durability settings (bent shims, bypass grooves in the wall of the shock body, etc). They can replace parts on a 2hr or 10hr basis or something that we'd never do. I can't think of any modifications that would lead to high-pressure anomalies though, aside from an...
More like the opposite. Shaft displaces ~20cc into the bladder volume. I ran some calcs on it a while back and the thermal expansion of the fluid at working temperatures was something like 40cc in a normal rear shock. I forget what the total volume of a normal bladder is, but it can't be more than 100cc, maybe closer to...

4/22/2024 6:26am 1000-2000psi is typical. Potentially a bit higher if something funny was going on with the bladder. Generally they have adequate margins on these things. They sure don't do a hydrostatic test on every cylinder that goes out for production bikes and you don't see structural failures often.
