As the most of us know fantic uses the base of the yamaha yz with different plastics and airbox, cdi with 2 mappings, different pipe and a piston that was developed with the maddi racing team.
Because I had a good deal on a fantic xx250 2023 with about 3 hours I couldn't resist to buy it. I was curious on how they ride and how they compare to the yz.
The almost new fantic xx250

First i greased all the bearings, replaced the 50t rear sprocket to 49 and put a DID ERVT x-ring chain on.

The new airbox with ktm/husqvarna air filter and a side cover you can remove

I measured the squish and it's the same as OEM yamaha, 2.1mm and 15 bar compression, will change that with the OEM yamaha head I have milled down and already tested on my yz. But first I will ride it like that to feel the changes.
This is the meteor fantic piston without the hole on the intake side, fits in the yz also
:
The jetting was a bit strange, 195 main and a 45 pilot jet. Too rich on the main jet, too lean on pilot jet... Changed that to 190 and 55, put the needle in 3rd clip. Bike sounded a lot better.
I wasn't a fan of the fantic front end so I replaced the front fender and number plate to the yamaha yz 2022 model.

Sweet. I think the YZ fender looks better, too. Air box layout is interesting. Does it use the same air boot as a YZ?
The airboot is different. Its smaller on the outside. The filter on a yz sits straight. This one is a bit turned
Bought a set haan wheels with gold rims and put braking batfly rotors on
How does it compare to the Yamaha on the track?

I only have rode the fantic twice, the first time complete OEM, today I rode the bike with a milled head with less squish and less compression.
It's faster, the bike revs quicker and pulls longer than a oem yamaha. The piston and the different pipe make the difference I guess.
Maybe the airbox also makes it perform different. It sounds a lot different than a yz also.
For smaller technical tracks map 2 is better, it retards the timing a bit and the bike is easier to ride. On map 1 it's pretty fast and sometimes a bit too fast for me. I think the bike will ride better with the GYTR flywheel on.
The frame/bodywork does not feel much different, the suspension on my yamaha is set up for me, the suspension on the fantic is a bit too heavy but can't complain about it
Sorry to bring up an old thread mate but I've got myself a 22, do you know if the Yam front plate fits the Fantic front mud guard?
yes that fits:
Thank you very much mate, I was having issues getting my transponder to fit behind the fantic plate and I prefer the way the YZ plate looks, but I do like the fantic fender over the YZ one.
Thanks again mate appreciated.
Sweet bike. Hopefully we will see these in NA at some point.
Sold my yamaha yz250 couple of weeks ago.
I've put the hinson clutch cover, bud ignition cover, black rfx levers and the kickstart from the yamaha on the fantic.
Also installed polisport frame protection, had to trim them a bit to make them fit with the side plates that protect the subframe.
Also put the yz 22-24 radiator louvers on, they offer a bit more protection and looks better than the OEM white ones.
Had the suspension set up for my weight with different springs and setting and added the black protection rings on the fork tubes like the A-kit uses.
And also ordered a stem seal from carbon solutions in the USA. It was not cheap to get it in Europe but hope the stem bearings will last a bit longer now.
I probably won't ride the bike in the first few months because of the bad weather and we're getting married in April.
But if I have the chance to put it on the dyno I will compare it to the yamaha that also was stock with just the milled head on.
Later the GYTR flywheel and vforce3 reeds will be added and test some different silencers.
I also ordered the fantic racing silencer like they use in the EMX series.
Had the bike on the dyno begin this year.
We had some troubles with the number reading but the curves looked good.
This is the difference between map1 and map2. It retards the timing and makes less power through the curve.
Installed the VHM head with the 20.6cc insert, vforce3 reed block and the GYTR flywheel.
I rode the bike once last month and it surely runs good. Picks up very fast and pulls strong.
I also installed a zeta top bar clamp, mostly because the bar pad will fit better. Don't think it make be a big difference in feeling or something like that.
And finally after some long waiting, the fantic racing pipe and silencer arrived. They are made by HGS.
Don't mind the mess in the background, I'm in the middle of restoring a yamaha DT125LC from 1982.
Do you think the fantic pipe is the same as HGS or its made to different specs?
I can't see a difference between the two pipes. I will measure them in the future.
The pipe does not say yz. It has a different engraving. But it surely fits on a yz.
Been a while sice I posted here.
I've put about 20 hours on the bike this year.
Rode some hours with the fantic factory silencer, has very snappy power but sounds a bit loud when riding in the sand. On hardpack tracks it's less disturbing...
I bought a longer oval HGS silencer (middle in the picture) and like it better when riding in the sand.
At the 20hour mark I replaced the piston with a forged wossner. Never rode with a forged piston before and it was way cheaper than the meteor fantic piston or a vertex so let's see how this holds up.
The meteor piston looked fine for 20 hours of mx riding
I also split the cases because the o-ring was sweating a bit between the cases...
New crank bearings and seals, new o-ring, piston and ready to ride again
I also found a DOMA pipe in very good condition and already rode it once, good power in the low end and a strong mid to top.
I also bought a custom made VHM insert but it appaers to be for a milled down piston. Didn't knew that..
I won't change the piston domes so I will re cut the insert for use with a normal piston.
Squish is now just 1mm with a normal piston and very high compression... The squish band is smaller and the dome has a different shape. So performance will be different I guess.
Left the VHM standard 20.6cc insert, right the custom insert.
From those pictures, the right dome with a narrower squish band will improve top end power; it also looks really close to the piston, so squish will be tight (like you said, might be for a special piston) or maybe tuned for a really high squish velocity, certainly not for pump gas.
I’m here for the fantic content. You probably don’t follow highland cycles YouTube but he said that someone is shipping a fi 300 fantic to him. Looking forward to seeing what he thinks about it
I have seen some videos from highland cycles. I want to test a xe300 on a motocross track but haven't found a dealer nearby that has a demo model.
I'm in the fantic xe300 group on facebook and from what I see some have issues with the electronics.
Battery that goes empty, cdi connection that gets wet and gives troubles...
On the xx250 the cdi also goes bad sometimes, I can't complain for now...
Maybe in a few years the xe300 will be even better and I think it will be good for mx also.
If i'm in for a new bike in a few years I will consider it, they keep more value than a mx bike also.
Someone already changed a xe300 for mx use and it looks good, he could keep the speedometer:
I ordered some more fantic parts like the high load clutch springs, a heavier spring for the shift stopper and a front brake caliper protection.
I now run 3 OEM 450 (90501-23OE4) clutch springs and 3 OEM 250 2 stroke clutch springs and can't complain about the clutch slipping but want to measure some different springs. I now have the OEM 2 stroke springs, OEM 450 4 stroke springs, fantic heavier springs and hinson clutch springs.
The local suspension guy should be able to measure the differences.
I also saw some guys change the way the spring is hooked on the shift stopper but I don't trust that way (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dNUXzCPSSoE) and than I saw fantic makes a heavier spring so I think that would have the same result and safer.
https://fantic.com/nl-en/factory-racing-spring-shift-drum-stopper/facto…
Will install it later when I have to dig in the clutch department.
The front brake caliper protection is just a small aluminium piece that makes the chance that the brake caliper hooks up on something is smaller I guess...
Saw it on some MXGP yamaha factory bikes in the past
And I also found a rare set of very clean low used pro circuit triple clamps with the 22.5mm offset. I never ran aftermarket triple clamps with a different offset so I'm curious to find out if it makes a difference in steering. I just need to switch stems because they are for a 125.
I also have a renthal twinwall 997 liket I used on my yz in the past, will compare them also later, the twinwall is a bit higher but have about the same sweep. I think the clamps will come out better with a twinwall bar... :D
Pit Row
Finally found some time to get the pro circuit triple clamps on the bike. For sure they look good, let's see if I can feel the difference in offset.
Also put the renthal 997 twinwall bars on.
Only had to drill the front fender for the older bolt pattern.
Also fitted some AS3 performance black axle blocks, they are a bit easier to read and look good, I couldn't find red axle blocks that I liked...
Also cheked the clutch plates, still looked good at 30 hours. I measured the different clutch springs and the 450 4 stroke springs are just a bit heavier than the oem 250 2 stroke springs. The fantic racing springs are just a bit lighter than the hinson springs. I didn't like the hinson springs in the past so I now fitted the fantic springs to see how I like those.
Nice Fantic man!
Doma never disappoints! ✌️
Have you considered running the 2025 front plate & fender?? I've swapped to that on mine it's much nicer.
The 2025 fantic front is much nicer than the 2023/2024 model but don't want to buy new plastics just because it looks better.
The yamaha front fits good and the decals were made for our wedding almost a year ago.
I love a clean bike but the prices of decals kit are just too much for what they do...
I have a new complete fantic plastic kit with a black yamaha front and a cycra number plate also on the shelf, butI keep it in case something breaks.
