Anyone know the best place to buy a wheel set? Also what’s the best set now a days? I’ve been out of it for a bit and was looking for something with excel rims but am not seeing many options besides warp 9 and dubya. Leaning towards a dubya set if I don’t see anything else.

Dubya 100%.
Dubya and KSR. Those are my two I've used. But, it also depends on your budget. I just bought a KTM 350SX and the previous owner put Tusk wheels on it. Garbage, absolute garbage. I won't even take the bike to the track until my new wheels show up today. Then again, everyone around me closed up shop for the winter. lol

I like their Made in the US hubs and the fact that one can choose DID or Excel rims. DID DirtStar or standard Excel rims are going to be most similar to OEM ‘feel’ for comfort (more forgiving), while ST-X rims and A60’s are best for real SX or gnarly FMX applications.
Go see Collin at faster USA in Temecula

So you didn't even try the wheels but you know they are garbage?
Correct.
Makes sense.
I've had great luck with Faster USA, KSR wheels, and Dubya. It all depends on what you are looking for. If money was no object i would probably get the Kite hubs and A60 rims. For Kite hubs you have to go to Dubya. Faster USA makes very good hubs in house.
Pulp has a discount code for Dubya.

Other than being heavy, I know a few people who ran tusk with no issues.
Dubya gives so much back to the sport in what they do. They really are core moto people. Even more so if you are out west where their reach is even stronger. You can find the owners at the races all the time.
Plus I just saw a set of those new purple rims in person. My god they are beautiful.
Pit Row
We've got 30 hard race hours on a set of Tusks. They took a while to develop a set, but then they held true fairly well. We've broken a couple rear spokes. This is on a 125 under a fast kid that is quite light (125 dressed) and he will jump almost anything. They aren't bad for casual use, but I cannot recommend them for hard use especially if you are heavier.
I'm going to get some quality spokes and rims and build a race set on the stock hubs and sell the Tusks.
Keith @ ksr is by far the best dude i have ever dealt with buying wheels, and or rims, parts....
hes fairly priced, shipping is fast, and is a full on man of his word!!!!
Colin at FasterUSA is also awesom to work with, hes super knowledgable and put me through the ringer on the info needed when moving from an intermediate riding level to a PRO level... there are reasons why stuff costs more money and those reasons backup to PROVEN DATA that he can drill into your brain....
BOTH dudes are NEXT LEVEL PEOPLE!!!
every thing else that i have experienced, dealing with Dubya, excel in cali was pretty much a corporate outlook, and i was treated as if it didnt matter what i wanted or what i was trying to buy, i was displeased with there service and i havent gone back!
I can tell you where NOT to buy em. Warp9. I just paid $1700 for a set and they sent the wrong bearing setup. They wouldn't even respond to my email all I got was a fedex notification that I am assuming is different spacers to make it work. Missed an event because of that crap.
Ksr wheels, keith is awesome
I have had a bunch of wheels and Faster USA have been the nicest and held up the best. Amazing customer service to top it off. As for other wheels I’ve had MX champ USA and they’ve also been pretty good. Held up decent this year but some light fading. Did use them in the sand quite abit so wear is expected. I’ve had a couple sets of tusk and for the most part no issues. Couple broken spokes and small flat spot on one. Warp 9 held up the worst for me, flat spotted easily, spokes constantly come loose. Had a rear that exploded the bearings in 10 hours. Could’ve just been bad luck. I also taco’d stock ktm wheels and my stock d.i.d. Dirt star rims on my Honda are bent up after 30 hours. Maybe I’m just hard on wheels.
If moneys not an issue go Faster USA
Tusk wheels are perfectly fine. I’ve been running a set for 3+ years. No issues.
LoL on the Tusk comment that they're "garbage". I know several A riders who've run them and not had any kind of issue. I've had a set on a YZ250 for several years and after tightening the spokes one time, they've all stayed tight. For the money, I personally think they're a good buy unless someone is looking for some additional bling factor by having a more touted name brand wheel set.
I will not support Dubya, I bought a set of wheels from them and the rear hub bearing went bad with in six months of purchase and they would not warranty it because they discontinued the hub.
I had a Tusk set and never had any issues, so I don't feel they are garbage.
Has anyone tried MX Champ wheels?
Talon makes some pretty nice looking wheels, you can get them built with either excel or Talon branded hoops. I haven't tried them yet, but I just bought a set of their triple clamps and the quality of those are excellent. Only pisser is I don't think they have a US importer and they are in the UK. I bought my clamps direct from them, with a 20% off code they cost me $575 US, plus whatever duty will be as I haven't received that bill yet. I "built" a set on their wheel builder thing, with pretty much the most expensive options and they were in the $1000-$1100 US range with no code. I forgot to add they had my clamps to me in about a weeks time, the wheels will most likely be longer as they build all theirs upon ordering.
I have a set built by Dubya. Talon hubs, DID ST-X rims, and bulldog spokes. Tough as nails and have been dead on for the last 7 years. Have talked to Josh at Dubya many times he was a great help years after my purchase.
Last month I bought a pair of WARP 9 wheels through my local mom and pop parts shop. I couldn't believe it when they showed up in a week! The website said over a month...
I got the Elite Rims so the wheel set is light despite the beefy spokes. The rims look as good as any excel or did or giant.
Silver hubs and spokes w/ black rims look trick af. They seem to weigh about the same as my 2023 xc-f stock wheels.
WARP 9 is my only choice because I got good rotors AND titanium sprocket bolts and rotor bolts for cheap! The local parts shop charged $25 for shipping on top of MSRP which I thought was more than fair. I liked that I could support my local shop with this purchase. Just the wheels and mounted rotors for $800 is great with me. $80 for the all titanium blue bolt boner factor sprocket and rotor bolts.
I just did an endurance race with them right out of the box. Perfect fit, nothing loose after 10 hours of riding, and having another set of wheels with different tires for changing conditions is a huge racing advantage. Not to mention a fast pit to change a flat. My only complaint is that I have nothing to complain about.
