I bought a can of twin air filter oil and this stuff is nearly impossible to get off of the filter

i did not buy the twin air filter cleaner

I have a full can of maxima filter cleaner and it doesn’t take it off. Short of use gas or diesel what can I use to get the filter oil off. I don’t want to buy a $40 can of filter cleaner. I might have go back to no toil.

Oderless mineral Spirits Substitute. Less toxic and easier on the filter glued seams. Found in the paint aisle at Loews in a white jug.

I dip it in wax and grease remover to get the big stuff off it and then wash it with dawn dish soap.

PJ1 or UNI filter cleaner should work. I have also used mineral spirits which works well.

Not saying this is your case, but if the filter is free of dirt buildup but still has oil on it and sticky, then just rinse it good and re-apply oil.

Im used to no toil as well where the filter comes out clean of any oil & no longer sticky. With other filter oils, I didn’t see the need to strip the oil out of the filter any more than needed to get the dirt out. Removing some oils completely requires quite a bit of fairly harsh solvents, more than I was comfortable using on a regular basis.

Is it the bio oil? I don’t think petroleum based cleaner will work. I use the bio oil and their powder cleaner, seems to work well

Dish soap FTW. Pour it straight onto the filter and work it in (wear gloves, unless you want your hands to stick together for the next 3 years). Then, rinse it out completely.

My routine also but with mineral spirits.

My question for guys using this method...do you let filter dry after removing oil, then wash with detergent?  Or wash with detergent right away?

I've done both, but for the sake of time usually wash filter with soap and water right after the mineral spirits dunk.

Odorless mineral spirits.  Followed by warm water and dawn dish soap...squeeze out and more dawn dish soap.    Dad said the mineral spirits cut the oil and dirt, then dawn and water got out the mineral spirits

I know this doesn't help your immediate situation, but I've been running the Twin Air bio system for a few years now and its been great. Just make sure the water is HOT when cleaning and everything comes off.

How many filters can you clean with one bottle of the twin air bio cleaner?

I also use K1 in my parts cleaner. I have a peg board above my parts cleaner, after rinsing out filter oil in my bucket, I gently wring out filters & hang on a coat hanger to drip off into my parts cleaner, usually over nite, then I wash with hot water & dawn dish soap & garden hose rinse. I have washed right after K1 cleaning if I am in a bind for a clean filter.
