When Pelosi was Speaker, she never brought a bill to the floor that wasn't passed, and she basically had the same R/D split as what we have there now.
The bottom line is that although there are extreme factions in both parties, the extreme right is incapable of legislating and governing.
Why did Gaetz bring down McCarthy? Because McCarthy had the crazy idea to compromise with Democrats in order to pull some of their votes over to avoid a government shutdown.

Funny thing is McHenry is my congressman and before yesterday I couldn’t tell you one thing he’s done since he’s been up there for the better part of 2 terms. The only time I hear anything out of him or about him is when his campaign mail outs show up in my mailbox at election time.
So most of the people I talk to agree with Matt. Should have shut down the government (it never really shuts down anyway) and voted on individual spending bills to get the spending under control. Extreme measures? Maybe but it needs to be done and McCarthy didn't do it. Polls show they had support to do it also. So the question is, why not do it now? You're going to have the same situation in 45 days, then what, another CR? But nobody agrees with the ousting of McCarthy, that appears to be a shit the bed move. And in other news, There will be a vote for a new speaker Tuesday. And guess who will be on that ballot, yup Donald Trump. Wouldn't that be just hilarious? Put that under things I never thought I'd see in my lifetime.

Not that he's better than Steve but Steve is going to be going through some brutal treatment for his cancer and that will take a toll. I guess count me as one of those that agree with Gaetz and Im trying to understand why I shouldnt support it. For decades Congress yells about balanced budgets, cutting spending, being responsible for the peoples money, etc. They have 12 months to go through the Congressional budget process but basically this is ignored and instead they have spent much of the last 6 years trying to impeach trump, hold made for TV Jan 6 hearings, etc, and the rest of the time soliciting Lobbyists. At the end of the year they play a game of chicken with the shut down and in the end there is no vote on individual bills they pass a continuing resolution and we get an omnibus spending bill that nobody knows whats in it. 33 trillion in debt, mass inflation, etc, " you know the thing"
Gaetz and some other radical right wingers put there foot down and says enough is enough and they are the problem ? If not now when ? I dont know the real intentions of the Rebublicans that voted the speaker out but for now I take them at their word that they are demanding the house honor its responsibility to do there job when it comes to spending our money because I dont see anyone else making an effort to do it.
If Congress doesnt want a shut down they should do there job that they have twelve months to accomplish. Remember that time the Fed and State Govt shut down the business of the entire fucking country ? And Congress lickity split approved spending of trillions of dollars for everyone to hide in their homes, shut down their businesses and take kids out of school. Congress agreed on that in about 5 mins.
Also, If democrats think removing the speaker is disruptive to the country and they like the deal they got with McCarthy and he will get them their Ukraine money why didnt they vote to keep him ? I guess they saw it as an opportunity to blow up the republican house regardless of the consequences. Or did they agree with Gaetz.

What you have to understand is that when there is a disaster of sorts, remember the bailouts? And now all the Covid money that was given out. In a short explanation, there are certain things that get automatically indexed up in the budget. But lets say you had a budget of 1 trillion dollars. Then next year you want more money, you have to create a budget and somehow justify why it should go up more than 2-3% But lets say you in this particular year, you had a budget of 1 trillion and you had a disaster, and as a special thing for the disaster you added 200 billion to the budget for this year. By doing a continuing resolution next year, your budget starts at $1.2 trillion even so you don't have the same disaster relieve money that you need to pay out. So everyone goes Woo Hoo! We have an extra 200 billion to work with by not doing our job of creating a budget. You do this a couple of years and pretty soon everyone thinks the budget should start out at $1.2 trillion because they forgot the budget was really supposed to be $1 trillion. And that's the game!
There is only a tiny minority of people in DC that actually give a shit about the debt or the deficit. There is a slightly larger group that likes to use it for leverage, but they are totally insincere. Bang on all you want about "what needs to be done" but it ain't going to happen. That train left the station back in the 90's.
I'm thinking the impeachment investigation thing might have something to do with the way the Dems voted.
