Seeing on twitter from Matthes and a few others that the start time for A1 next year will be 4:30pm for opening ceremonies and then 5 pm gate drop. I get that on the east coast watching A1 it can be pretty late but man 4:30 is still day time.

CA should be glad they still have so many of the early rounds.  The weather has proven to be a major problem for how many years now?

I like it if so. I'm a west coast guy who is usually in bed by 9pm so that fits into my schedule better. Will the east coast rounds start at 5pm too, or just west?

I agree that attending some of the west coast rounds with the sun still up once racing kicks off will feel strange.. But I still think it’s the right move, 2/3 or more of the country is dealing with 5pm darkness and cabin fever by then lol. Worth a shot at least, if we go back to late night’s here and there, no biggie. That’s just my two cents.

The objective is to have all of the racing during Prime Time hours in the Eastern Time Zone where there are the most eyeballs available for TV viewing.

So, the answer to your question is no.

Ask any racer. No one wants to race at 9:30pm local time. Its so dumb. We can stream everything nowadays at any time. Let them start the races at 1pm. Morning practice and qualifiers at 8am like every other race a rider goes to.

I think some of  attraction of sx is the night time vibe,     outdoors is good for day events.

Outdoor stadium  tracks are shit for the early afternoon shows, slick and dried out.

Its Saturday. Plan accordingly. Having every west coast round on at 10pm over here blows.

Wonder if the gates and pits will be opened up 2 hours earlier as well.  The stadiums are stoked they'll probably sell more food. Most guys I know are feeding between 5-6. If you need to be in your seat by 4:30 and the races are going till 8-8:30 there's going to be a lot of families buying dinner in the stadium.

With rewind available on the live broadcast in Peacock, I have no issue to help out the east coasters. I just stay off social media until I catch up to the live part if I hop in late.

Hate this personally as a central time guy. Love just relaxing late on Saturday when the fam is in bed and watching the races. Easy for me to avoid spoilers though and watch it on replay I guess. Definitely in weeks 2 and 3 during NFL playoffs it was always perfect as the races would start as the final Saturday game was ending and I’d usually only miss the 250 heats. Now I’ll just finish playoffs before flipping to the Peacock replay.

I know casual fans and riders that have only gone to a few nationals since 08 whe. They switched to Saturdays. Myself included. I know of quite a few guys I would hit 2-3 nationals a year with back in thee day thay only come out once every couple years why, flat out has been said over and over cause Saturdays. Sundays are easier as it's a general full on off day for most people.

What your not thinking about is all the non fans that show up cause it's what's going on. Do you think thier gonna change their days around to go to supercross. Their would have been quite a few times I wouldn't have made phoenix in time due to having to work. Y

To me the only issue will be the opening ceremonies being a little blah with daylight/fireworks but I’m all for the earlier start time for the East Coast viewers. In Jan/Feb the majority of the racing will be under the lights, which I prefer for SX

College football has no problem getting people in at 1 p.m. on a Saturday. Baseball/NFL/basketball have no trouble getting people in during the weekday. Cry about it some more. It's two hours earlier not a whole day. We here in New England have dealt with 3 p.m. races for a few years now. You and your 6 buddies not buying tickets won't make a difference; getting a prime spot on TV for the entire country will. Pick 1, bring more money to the sport, or gate keep it for the core moto guys.

Just curious, how does SX being on TV 2 hours earlier "put more money into the sport" ? More money for who ?  I doubt whoever benefits from this change is going to kick down extra cheese to the riders and teams. Who benefits ?

I'd say this could help with the casual kid that just catches it on TV that may possible be in bed on the east coast, and that might spark their interest and possibly get them into Moto(growing the sport).

Either way, day or night, I'll be watching it.  I absolutely hate having to stay up until after 1am on Sunday to finish watching a west coast race, but I hate even more having to watch it on a delay.

Where do you think the millions of dollars for this season came from? The TV package deal they signed. Where does NBC get their money from? Viewership.

Ok fair enough. If starting 2 hours earlier puts more money in the riders pockets great. Have the purses for the regular SX series gone up with this change ? (I know the riders who made it into the smx series did well) Just curious.  It'll change how we watch a few rounds here on this coast but no big catastrophe.  Round 5 Feb 3rd will be a little weird starting at noon on this side off the country, we usually are camping in the desert that time of year and watch the races live on a big screen, that's not going to work during the day but like I said no big life changing problemCool. We will adapt Laughing  I do hope the purses for the regular season have increased, especially the payouts from 10th - 20th. Those are the guys who need the biggest pay raise. Hope this change gets them more $.
