My take on the SMX playoffs is that it was designed by FELD and MX Sports to test how the fans would react to the concept of a playoff system for their series with out jeopardizing their bottom line. I hope that I am wrong and they keep their series as they are and keep this series going. Best of both worlds to me. Time will tell.
I hope it sticks around. I like the format personally.
Rumor is its a 5 year contract so its here for at least 5 years.
Racing is racing, so why not?
Bikes can be rebuilt weekly but bodies can not

My theory is that it was mostly in response to WSX. They may have been considering something like this because of interest/pressure from TV but WSX accelerated it.
Yes, they definitely played up that this was a "true" world championship quite a bit last night.
Here to stay, will be expanded to 5 races soon enough, two more venues.
what I’m thinking..
It was created to stop the WSX from taking the riders from the nationals who just want to race SX. I figured it would be gone when the WSX goes but I hope they keep it because it was pretty darn good. I didn't want to see the WSX fail but the way it is going I think that's what will happen and DC and the nationals will be safe again, at least for a while.
LA coliseum is unlikely for next year. ATL should have one since they don’t have a SX
I hope and think it should stick around. Look at the effect it had toward the end of MX with guys coming back to garner points not to mention the hype around the purse money. I loved it and I'd like to see it honed into something we look forward to every year,
It’s good and I like it and I hope it sticks around.
It would be cool if they ranked they ranked the top 20 combined SX and MX and then got MXGPs to play and ranked top 20 there and deconflict schedule. So #1 in US series gets 25 pts and #1 from MXGPs gets 25…n down. Top 10 from each for 20 in the main and a gate of 20 for LCQs. You would need to start MXGPs 3 weeks earlier. Then have a 3 week series. Big money and no whoops so Euros can play. Then maybe..just maybe you can say world champ…but of course it will never happen. They would still say SX style unfair…but that is what fans like the most. MXdN is team format so different appeal. Anyway…dream on.
Hmmm, I always love more racing :-) but my take .....
* Too many races in the year, for the riders, us spectators love it.
* The term 'playoffs' is wank.
* Having seeded & unseeded riders sucks, just have qualifying for all & anyone (just ask Phil).
* All racing; supercross (SX), motocross (MX) & supermotocross (SMX) should all be 2 x 20 mins.
* Three rounds for SMX is cool but have points from each race, with the point value increase with each race, keeps everyone going.
* If the promoters can have good money for the privateers at SMX, why can't that be done at all events !
* Riders bringing in points at the start of SMX is crap !
* SMX needs wider tracks, for passing if getting a bad start.
* Bring back Larry Huffman !
That is all :-)
NBC invested into it for 5 years per weege.
Ya I wish they would drop a sx. Even a couple.
They told us why they were doing it(tv told them to) and people are still asking why. Crazy times we live in.
