I know everyone is already aware what a lousy job the manufacturers do greasing bearings on the new bikes, but I thought I’d post a couple pics anyway!
Yamaha says THIS is enough grease for you!

I’m gonna go through all the linkage next and install a few misc accessories, my favorite bend of bars etc.

I regret that I’m only JUST now around to getting the brand new bike that I bought all the way back in May gone through and ready to ride, BUT the wife has been going through some very difficult health stuff that required I put the bike on the back burner for a while! Thankfully she is having much better days now and I hope to have everything ready for a night at the local MX track this Thursday evening! I appreciate all the excellent setup info here and looking forward to FINALLY getting to ride the new YZ! 😎 👍❗️

Congrats on the new bike. You’ll love it once you get it set up 👍

As far as grease goes, while adding more won’t hurt, the grease that is packed in the bearings is often plenty as is. It really doesn’t take much. Far more damage is done with pressure washers than lack of grease from the factory

Will 2022 Sprockets fit the the 2023 YZ450f? Seems crazy that Motosport dot com has no sprockets for this bike? Where's the best place to get a chain sprocket combo for a good price? Thanks.

The rear hub was unchanged from the last gen bike as far as I can tell. I am currently running the Ironman sprocket I pulled off my '21 on my '23

Thanks for the replies, I ended up ordering 2022 stuff and it worked great. It's crazy because the big parts dealers web pages say they won't fit a 2023, they need to update their stuff. Man I really start loving, my bike then come in here and read about wrist pins and connection rods going LOL. I'm at 20 hours now and was going to wait until 40 hours to do the piston. I am pretty easy on the motor, on the track it feels like I am revving it plenty then on Go Pro video's it seems like I an lugging around. I'm waiting for 40 hours to do the piston, if it can't make it to 40 hours I will get a different bike. I think 90 hours is a better number for a piston.

I had piston pin/piston failure 40 hours. Coating of pin was worn but not sure what was cause of failure. This week I rebuilded again piston/pin less than 35h and piston was like new but pin coating has started to wear again when you looking by eye. Im vet rider and have been running 80-90h previous 450 bikes before new pistons but first failure got me little worried. Seems most bikes have no problems.

Does anyone know where to find a skidplate in stock for one of these 23’s? I’ve checked everywhere for a plastic or carbon style one and no luck. Anyone have a new one for sale? Thanks.

I got mine from P3, just their standard carbon skid plate. Looks like they have some currently available.

Keep an eye out for my 23 fellers. They stolePXL 20230707 110836560 it and my 21 works edition.

2021 crf 450 works edition. Very clean. Red works Connection oil filter cover, wc radiator braces with titanium bolts, renthal rear sprocket, and an easy identifier if up close is a decent scratch on top of swingarm. Steel braded rear line that's safety wired.

2023 yz450. Red WC clutch perch with silver lever. Guessing graphics got peeled. Moto seat cover with 3 teal n pink ribs. Odd identifier would be a bent left footpeg and curled forward front brake lever. 6 hours on it. Brand new dunlop 34 rear.

For what it’s worth, the GYTR skid plate for the 2022 model will work on the 23 model, requiring nothing more than using a Dremel tool to elongate the holes at the front of the skid plate outboard by approx 5mm and then it bolts right up! If you can’t get anything else and don’t want to ride without one in place! 😎 👍❗️IMG 0424

LOL I feel better about my holes now, I found a 22 GYTR on ebay for 70 bucks. Cut a little towards the inside. Lost a screw and seat for it Saturday and threw a bolt and washer on here good to go. Whoever suggested this thanks and screw LightSpeed I wish I didn't have them on my graphics. For 2+ months man it's on the way, they afflicted.

Wow, crazy question but how are you cleaning your airfilter? I lay my bike down on it's side. Any chance dirt could get in there and cause failures? Probably a dumb question. Not saying you but I don't see how anyone could remove a filter with the bike upright and not ingest dirt?

Im having the same issue a few people referenced with the blue light staying on while the bike is off. I tried a new kill switch/button cluster, but it still does it. Has anyone encountered this or does anyone have a solution?

Thanks

Stephen

Most of time changing filter in my garage using vacuum cleaner to remove excess dirt before opening and then using vacuum cleaner cleaning airbox and sides. Other option just use compressed air to blow dirt away. Battery powered small vacuum cleaners could work at track also and cost just nothing.

I can! I have the Twin Air cage. When I remove the filter I start with removing the front lip then I move the airbox ‘hinge’ piece to the back while holding the filter in place. After that I grap the filter cage in the middle and lift it right up very slowly. I’ve done it multiple times now and no sand fell in.

I run a PC Filter Skin on the YZFs partly to avoid this exact scenario. You peel off a dirty Filter Skin and clean up any crumbs, then you're free & clear to remove the main filter without worry (or in my case, put another Filter Skin on and leave the clean main Filter alone ... and I often run 2 Filter Skins at once).

I am always surprised more people don't use Filter Skins. Here's what they look like/how they are used:

I'm a local Ohio boy too, been reading your reviews of the bike since you got it and noticed you had the yami up for sale. Scum pieces of trash are everywhere. I'll keep my eyes open at the track.

Is there another page to download Yamaha Motor Corp 2023 YZ 450F maps? I mean actual maps Yamaha puts out? They have a a bunch for 2022 and below model bikes. Weird. https://www.yamaha-motor.eu/lt/lt/experiences/applications/power-tuner/

I played with maps quite a bit before eventually settling on what I feel works the best (for me) for this bike. A dude much faster than I am turned me on to it and I’ve been running it ever since.

Create a new map with the tuner app and then slide Fuel/Ignition all the way down and slide Traction Control all the way up and then save. That’s it.

I had a really tough time getting along with the transmission on this new bike with 2nd gear being so tall and not being able to run 3rd as much as I’d like to. This map bridged the gap for me. It allows 2nd to run even further than in stock trim and mellows out the midrange hit a bit. Give it a shot 👍

Sounds interesting I will try it. Anyone else have any new maps? I've been using the Keefer moto1 and moto 2 maps with my Yoshi pipe and like them best so far.  Thanks.

Are there any good YouTube walk throughs for rebuilding the 2023 YZ 450F motors yet? Only 20ish hours on mine but I want to start studying what is required. Also is there a better service manual than OEM book that came with it? My 2008 Service manual was huge compared to that little book they gave us. Thanks!

If you are just putting new piston doenst really different than previous models. Older manuals were way better with all detailled info with torque patterns and so on new just basic stuff.

Also other than the twin air flo kit is there any other better cage or mounting for these 23s and up? Seems like the filter sealing is one of the pain points.

Yep, they are not bike specific in that they are custom fit, but rather they are like a stocking cap for your air filter.

Here's a link to the product I am talking about that I run on my full-size MX bikes:

My gas cap cover came off in practice last race. Someone told me there is a fix, like a replacement bolt kit to get rid of the tiny latch thing?

What's the reason you can't run a 13/50 gearing on this bike?

I found it, the push button latch thread. Not sure what the dude was talking about cutting slits in aluminum and crushing something with pliers. I ordered the button I guess it can't be too hard. My cover flew off in practice, the plastic safety strap broke. I was lucky a friend saw it and picked it up I didn't know it was gone. Lamest designed ever to save someone 30 seconds remove a bolt. https://www.vitalmx.com/forums/tech-helprace-shop/2023-yz450f-seat-quic…
