MX Tech Black Jack Inserts?

So I have a new 2023 KTM 350SXF that I am going back and forth on forks.  Of course the Cone Valves are at the top of the list but wondering if anyone here has any real experience working with the MX Tech Black Jack?  I know they do a complete fork but was curious about the inserts?  Anybody have any experience as there isn’t much out there on them honestly, at least not as far as user experience.

Having owned and ridden both, I would take MX Tech Blackjack over Cone Valves all day long. The complete fork is awesome, but the inserts are where most of the magic happens anyway for a lower cost.

I can’t speak about the black jack inserts specifically but I’m super impressed with my lucky carbon cartridges.  Mx tech was awesome to work with as well. Even after multiple conversations with myself and my tuner regarding set up.

Blackjack inserts are really good. Lots of tuning options. Can be set up plush on top yet still ramp up deep in the stroke (they have spring perch damping like the JBI Pro Perch). Then there’s the Huck Valve bottoming system which will completely spoil you. Overall a real good option!

Great forks insert. I've ran all of Jeremy's stuff. Might be putting a natty shock on my 03 kx144 resto to go with the lucky kit. But with that being said just like with any fork settings are important. You have to get good setting that you like or you won't be happy.

Agreed, settings and valving are imperative to making any suspension “feel good  and performing good. Some of the worst suspension I have ever riden was a set of cone valves and Traxx shock not set up for me.

Yes.  I've ridden some terrible Showa A-Kit and Ohlins on some Hondas in the past that was worse than stock settings.

A good spring fork with a "twin chamber" or "closed cartridge" design is capable of satisfying 99% of us as long as the setup is right.
Honestly, the air fork is probably good enough to satisfy 75% of the riders out there with a little test and tune time from a savvy suspension guy.  Often times, the rider's communication to the suspension tuner is the most critical part of getting a bike dialed.  Some of my buddies are really good at communicating what they feel and others are terrible.  Keefer has touched on the subject in his podcasts.

I have a buddy who rides a Husky 450 Rockstar edition.  He owns several forks (AER-48, Showa A-Kit, Lucky system, Cone Valve, Ohlins, My KYB conversion) and shocks (Natty, Trax, WP with a revalve, and I think Ohlins).   I keep telling him he needs the right shims and oil, not more components, to satisfy his quest for great suspension.

I've ridden most of those options and my biased opinion is to go KYB because I have learned to shim them to my liking.
I am putting my money where my mouth is on that front.  I just incorporated a second business to sell a uniquely simple type of KYB conversion and I bought a GasGas to film installation videos.  KYB in stock tubes isn't glamorous, but it is a damned good option because almost any suspension shop has access to the parts and knows how to valve them; you aren't locked into one tuner's style.  Just a stock valved YZ-F cartridge is a huge improvement on a KTM chassis.

OP, whatever you purchase, do the best you can to communicate what you feel and what you want when you talk to the suspension shop.  Make some notes before you call them so you can hit all the important points and get exactly what you want.

I have blackjack cartridges + DLC lowers in my 23 GasGas.  Hands down the best forks I have ever ridden. I have spent lots of time on Cone-Valves, KYB SSS, and MX tech Luckies, and I would happily take Blackjack cartridges over any of them.

It has the small bump compliance and traction of a very well setup KYB, but has better mid stroke support and vastly superior bottoming resistance.  It is a massive upgrade from the OE air fork, which is honestly not as terrible as people make it out to be.

I view suspension as a safety "feature" on my bike.  Doesn't really matter what it cost, if it saves me from a single oh S*** moment and injury I'm getting it.  If Cone-Valves or KYB A kit was superior I would be using it, I have tried them all.  IMO the Blackjack fork is best thing on the market right now.

I really didn’t need another suspension option to consider for my 23, but this makes them sound really good. Oddly enough, I seem to have more of an issue with my shock rather than the Xact forks so far.

They are amazing forks.  Spring for the huck valve…

Super adjustable.  The passion that Jeremy and the MX-Tech team has for the pursuit of improvement is unparalleled.

Good dudes….Great suspension.

I just looked up the price of the Black Jack cartridges.  Yikes!  It ain’t cheap to make a KTM “ready to race”.

Well any inserts are going to run at least $1800 by the time you get springs, setup, and installation in general.  The WP 6500 seems to be the least expensive but you are honestly pretty close in cost with the KYB (most expensive), WP 6500, or the MX Tech Black Jack Inserts.  The MX Tech inserts include the springs and setup. Unfortunately, there is less info out there on the MXT Black Jacks but everything I have heard thus far is very positive.  Just wanted to really hear from guys that actually have ridden them.

The truth is I honestly wanted to just get a fork and bolt it on which is why the cone valve is so appealing.  And yes, the MXT Black Jack is avail as a complete fork. But, it’s def pricey and prob does not offer as much performance advantage to justify the price over the inserts.  And then there is the shock to consider…..LOL!

I remember reading that the mxt stuff is built to be sent in for service? I imagine you could buy the tools and it’s a one time expense, so not a big deal.

I installed the jbi diy kit on my 23 350sxf last week but unfortunately haven’t put any real time on it. I wanted to try the $300 fix before moving into the $1500 range. I’ve talked to a couple guys that have used them and they are supposed to be incredible for still being an air fork. I don’t mind keeping an eye on my fork pressure, as long as they are working good. The kit addresses everything I wanted, better front end feel, more plush, and good bottoming resistance still. Really looking forward to hitting the track and really testing them

You can just bolt on a set of Ohlins also. Cheaper than CVs and just as good or better. I’ve had both on my current bike (23). Sold my CVs kept my Ohlins. Just another option anyway

Id love to try the MX Tech stuff, especially their shock.

i have 60-70 hours on my set of black jack inserts. I started them on my 2022 gas gas 450 and moved them to my new 2023.5 gas gas 450. I don't have much experience with cone valves but just from watching riders. They look to have a much stiffer/rigid feel. The blackjacks are plush but will soak up big cases and over jumps. I'm a customer for as long as they are in business. I have the national shock as well and it's just as good.

I'm vet intermediate skill level.
