Only $10 for all 2026 SX, MX, and SMX series.
Rough estimate between Jett, Hunter, and Chase with race bonuses and championships. (no salary)
Somewhere between 6.5 to 7 mil. Based on what I've been told positions and titles are worth.
Championships alone should roughly be 3.5 mil. 1 million per 450 title and 500k per 250 title.
That's a lot of CRF's
My math guesstimate was:
Chase $2m for SX bonus.
Jett $1m for MX bonus.
Hunter $1m for MX bonus
Jett and Hunter $500k bonus for their SX regional bonuses.
450 SX title = $1M; 450 MX title = $1M; 250 SX title = $500K; 250 MX title = $500K
450 SX Main/MX Overall race win bonus = $100K; 250 SX Main/MX Overall = $50K
Jett - 6 250 SX wins = $300K + 250 SX title = $500K + 11 450 Overall MX wins = $1.1M + 450 MX title = $1M
Grand Total for race wins and championship bonuses = $2.9M
Hunter - 7 250 SX wins = $350K + 250 SX title = $500K + 7 250 Overall MX wins = $350K + 250 MX title = $500K
Grand Total for race wins and championship bonuses = $1.7M
Chase - 5 450 SX wins = $500K + 450 SX title = $1M
Grand total for race wins and championship bonuses = $1.5M
***Jett career race win and championship bonus Grand Total as of end of 2023 regular season: $5.45M
This kid in only 20 yrs old... I mean.. im speechless.

My Guess would be :
Chase Sexton:
Supercross: 3rd place 2 times = $25K * 2 = $50K ; 2nd place 4 times = $50K * 4 = $200K; 1st place 6 times = $100K * 6 = $600K : Championship = $1MM so all in bonus of $1.85M
Outdoors: 3rd place 1 time = $25K : 2nd Place 6 times = $50K * 6 = $300K so all in bonus of $325K
Sexton's total bonus is around $2.175M
Jett:
Supercross: 3rd 1 time = $15K; Second 2 times = $35K * 2 = $70K; 1st 6 times = $75K * 6 = $450K ; Championship = $500K so all in bonus of $1.035M
Outdoors: $100K *11 wins = $1.1M plus Championship $1MM = $2.1M
Jett's total bonus is around $3.135M
Hunta:
Supercross:3rd place 2 times = $15K * 2 = $30K, 1st place 7 times = $75K * 7 = $525K ; Championship = $500K so all in bonus of $ 1.055M
Motocross: 3rd place 1 time = $15K; 1st pace 7 times = $75K *7 = 525K: Chapionship = $500K so all in bonus of $1.04M
Hunta's total bonus is around $2.095M
Based on the rough math above which I feel is probably conservative then Honda would have paid out $7.405M in race wins and championship payouts for 2023.
So when we add in the SMX playoffs along with rider salary I would guess Honda had to pay out around $10M for the team.
So I assume Honda is able to right the majority off this off on taxes. No way they would that many crfs across the world to cover the fees and make a profit ( still have ti include the cost to Make the bike )
It's not Honda, but, add Red Bull, 100%, A Stars, and more...
I think the bonus payouts shown above are just Honda. They also probably get bonus for all the other sponsors as well. Each rider did very well this year for sure.
Not sure if this happens in moto but I know in other sports, teams take out insurance policies for win bonuses.
Small potatoes compared to stick and ball sports.
Yep. Not even close
If we assume they’re making $3,500 profit in each bike it comes out to 1,743 CRF’s to pay out the roughly $6.1 million in race bonuses for the 3 riders.
How many CRF’s will they sell in total this year ?
Verryyyy minor in comparison.
$3500 is a lot of profit per bike. When I was a Production Manager at Ford we were making about $10K per vehicle, and that's on a $40-50K SUV
Someone may know the answer to this but do these smaller companies pay to be on the bike and semi? Twin air, Hinson and a couple others have some very small stickers on the bike and obviously Dunlop is a huge sponsor as well. Are they paying for this or is this simply the trade off for supplying the team for the year? I'm sure it varies but its an interesting thought as the rest of the factory teams also have a huge title sponsor in Monster or Red Bull.
I mean HRC Honda between races and practice bikes probably goes through $200k a year in tires at retail prices.
Insurance policies seem to have slowly disappeared for bonuses and championships. A lot of the OEMs just pay them directly as the insurance costs have risen to a point where it’s not worth it, especially if your rider’s chances of winning are too high for insurance. I also learned after doing one for my team that you have to eat a pretty good premium before bonuses kick in and there was a cap of what they pay. It didn’t make sense once I did the math.
Some brands re product and money, some are just product. It depends on the value of the product and the R&D efforts they put towards the team to improve their package.
As far as I’m aware, Hinson and Dunlop both do not spend cash, but shell out a massive amount of product and R&D time to the teams they support.
Maybe I’m wrong, but I think very few people will focus on how good was the Honda, while most highlight the riders ability and (Sexton) luck and consistency.
In the end I don’t see that much brand return but a very well due Jett/Hunter glorifying
Pit Row
Rickie Fowler still had the right idea...
...and that does not include the $700,000 grand he won yesterday in the season ending TOUR Championship.
Viktor Hovland won $18,000,000 for the tournament...
Amortized over 20 years it’s pretty affordable!!
Be interesting to know if Jett is the youngest highest paid athlete in our sport.
Like have we had a 19 year old make this much money before? i get late twenties and things.. but to have that much in the bank by the age of 20 is wild.
When does Honda decide to quit paying? Ricky was 3 years. MC was 4 years.
If history is any guide they will keep Jett into his late 20s assuming he keeps winning. If Hunter is the 2nd or 3rd best guy in 450s, which I think he will be, I don't see Honda willing to keep him for what Kawi or Star will pay him when his contract is up after 2024. Assuming Deegan continues to improve I expect Kawi to win the Hunter sweepstakes.
Yeah the money is peanuts compared to other sports like golf but the money coming in from sponsors and ticket sales is also peanuts compared to golf.
They are likely more interested in the Honda "brand" than they are with a direct linkage between their SX/MX investment and number of CRF's sold. It puts a shine on the millions of little Honda mopeds and small motorcycles, generators, cars, planes, and whatever else Honda is selling worldwide. I'm sure they'll sell more CRFs after sweeping everything this year, but it strengthens their image and brand more than anything...
Agreed. However for a normal guy like me.. I have only made around 4% of what Jett has made on race wins and champ bonuses over the last 2-3 years.. and I am almost 40 yrs old! I was straight broke when I was 20! lol. Guess that is why it blows my mind when you start doing the math!
Weird thing is that I rarely see any Hondas at the local tracks.
To the race team all that matters is wins and championships. To the company its about dollars. Unfortunately will probably not sell any more CRF's in 2024 than they did in 2023, and that is what the bean counters look at. I would love to see Honda have another run like they did in the 80's and 90's but the times have changed.
Deserves every penny!
How good it must feel as a family to bet your house etc on your kids and it has paid off. Unreal.
Post a reply to: Any guess on how much $ Honda America paid out in SX and MX title bonuses to Chase, Jett, and Hunter?
