E class ….. lets race!!!

I saw several Stark dealers posting pictures of their 2024 Stark Vargs arriving on instagram yesterday and immediately being put together.

Will these Vargs be shop demos or will they be bikes for people that had pre ordered to come and pick them up locally?

IF 3+ E bikes start showing at local races I guarantee they will add a E bike class.

Will the 2023 Mini O’s add an E class?

MXSports change rules and class structures every year. When enough E bikes are ready to race area qualifiers they will add a E class.

It's completely logical.

MX Sports added the E50 class pretty quickly.

And, I'm sure there will , very rapidly , be quite a few Vargs out there through next year, And, in the next few years, other companies responses to them. and, you might get remaining Altas, and other Conversion bikes out there. A bike like a Stark, being (we / I assume will be) the best E bike out there, at least initially - well, we've always had dominant / best bike models in racing.

I guess an argument against it may be "too many classes already at LLs", but, they added the E50s, didn't they. 

Some might say , it could be only one brand, but E50s, until the Cobra, were all the same Manufacturer - just different colours. 

I do lean towards a true "Open Class", but really think in Amateur racing, well, Vargs and 'what's to come', may well end up being  a damned well near insurmountable advantage. But, having the separate class, will keep the peace, so to speak.

The short races, at LLs and qualifiers, would be of no hurdle, and, to be quite honest, I doubt their price, the price of a good generator, Or even a spare battery ($7500?) would be much of a barrier for a lot of competitors. The show of "Monied Up" at the LLs, well, it's pretty bloody stunning.

Pretty much it’s the basics of Supply and Demand so Its all about the number$. When the people want it they will not turn the $$$$ away.

OEM’s all know the day of E bikes is coming. Honda has already shown that they had a E bike so now that a competitor has produced and made them available to the public they all will follow much like when Yamaha 1st showed up out of nowhere with Doug Henry on the YZ400F.

Varg already showed the 4 minute battery swap so that’s definitely a good option. It wont be long till aftermarket batteries start showing up and better development like longer life.

I don’t understand why people are so hell bent on these bikes having their own class.  We’ve been racing pitbikes, gas vs electric, for years now with great results and it adds a whole new dynamic to the races.  Some people love to see the electric stuff out there, some hate them, it just adds to the fun.  There’s no other motorsport that is as depending on the rider as motocross, this puts moto in a unique spot to be the first to really integrate gas and electric together.  
 

What it’s going to take is realistic cooperation between the AMA and manufacturers to create rules that make sense to limit current allowed into the motor for a given class.  For the sake of discussion let’s say 250 class is limited to 100amps, 450 class 150amps, etc (I’m just growing out numbers here, but you get the idea).  it would be very easy to run a device similar to a transponder than measures current, and if you’re found to be drawing too much then you’re disqualified, it’s as simple as that.  This isn’t as big of a challenge as people seem to think, we can do this relatively easily and at very low cost, it just takes desire by the party’s involved to actual make it happen, and right now there just isn’t any unfortunately.

IF …. By limiting the max power for an E bike to race in the 250 class that could possibility also allow 250 2strokes to be in the 250 class power wise.

They did 2 stroke vs. 4 stroke same class…where are the 2-strokes?  I get displacement, same difference though.

They didn’t add ebikes, they replaced the 50 cc special limited class with ebikes. The schedule is full at Lorettas, in order to add a class they must drop a class.

I said it in other forums. Let them race in Vet classes. Then they can get a real good look at what works. They can do that for a few years to see how it plays out and then make “ fair class rules”. It’s such an obvious answer!

The simple answer is they did it wrong, because they had no desire to allow the two strokes to still be competitive.  If we went back in history and actually went about it in a way that makes sense and without bias you very well might have a split field of two and four strokes today.

So what do you want, me to just pull an opinion out of my ass like everyone else?  Is it pro SX and MX level, no, but it’s something and right now that’s the only comparison we really have because all of the other sanctioning bodies are burying their heads in the sand for as long as they can.  I don’t see any reason why gas and electric can’t race against each other effectively, it just needs to be done correctly and with rules that don’t have an agenda behind them.

As I wrote in my post, they are, apparently, $7500.

And, I'm pretty sure a few Varg owners might just buy a spare. Especially those with $$$$$ - as I think many will be. Though, a  good quality generator will be more than enough for most.

LLs (and any major event - well, even local events)  is  full of MegaBuck set ups, as well as lesser ones.

Heck, I've gone to local races recently, here in OZ, and I see plenty of $$$$$$ set ups in the pits. Along with the Van or Car and trailer set ups that I mostly ever used in my racing. We are a many  varied mob in Motorcycling.

To be fair that comes down to most racers choosing four strokes and of course the AMA balls'ing up the displacement equivalency on the pro level didn't help at all.

They could absolutely repeat that same mistake mixing in electrics with ICE bikes, and we can only hope they don't, but we don't know yet that they will.

Bottom line there will always be complaints of fairness from both sides. Ice wins it’s not fair the they only won because the electrics were unfairly limited, electrics win its not fair they only won because their superior power over the ICE. You will never have agreement and probably fights break out from some of the people I know, they are very passionate in their beliefs. I personally can’t stand electric anything cars, boats, bikes, mowers, planes whatever but if you don’t mind the limitations on battery life, maintenance, high price, charging issues, battery replacement cost, then by all means buy and enjoy. To be completely fair ICE come with its own set of issues just different, especially 4 strokes, and noise at the top of the list. I would hate the sound of chain slap the whole time I’m riding but the thought of track close to population areas with no noise complaints is absolutely wonderful. You could literally build a small track in your back yard and no one would even know your riding, that’s a win.

Separate class will eliminate any issues with ICE bikes. 
 

When eMX becomes more popular than ICE on Amateur level than OEMs will be caught up and can go PRO racing.

Can you even get 40 guys who own Altas and Vargs to try and qualify?  Probably have to include Freerides and modified Surrons to get a full gate.

I agree it was done wrong, but wasn’t it because they didn’t understand how much better the 4 stroke would eventually be rather than a bias against the 2 stroke? Then by the time it was understood, OEMs we’re to far invested to consider a change in CC limit and the AMA and promoters feared a rule change would cause the OEMs to pull out of racing? Do we really know enough now to be able to set impartial rules that make ICE and electric comparable?
