Wasn't this same thing reported and prosecuted in the last few years? Maybe a different perpetrator? I can't remember now.

According to the charges, 2nd degree sexual assault . It could be a person between 13 and 16, or if they are using the Coaching section of the law, the person could have been just under 18 and because of the coach athlete setting and ages it makes it an assault even if it was consensual . If it was say a 17 year old girl when he was 20 it might not be as bad as it sounds . Without knowing more details its hard to know exactly which part of the law they used to charge him. The news posts and articles are pretty vague. Even just knowing the age of the alleged victim would make things more clear.
It sucks all around. If its not true , it sucks that he will have this attached to his name, and if it is true well it sucks for the victim.

Imo there is a big difference between a 29 year old man seeing a 17 year old girl and a 18 year old "boy" seeing a 17 year old.
Not sure the law differentiates and there is a lot of facts not known.

The report says this all happened 3 years ago. I have to wonder... why press charges now? Like most of these incidents...there's more to the story.
I've been guilty of jumping to conclusions about stuff like this in the past. If/when more facts come out...then I'll have an opinion.
Fer instance...maybe this "pro" has been dating the girl all along and the parents decided to get him out of the picture.
Or...the pro was dating her...ditched her...and she's getting even.
My point is...without the facts we just don't know.

You are correct. Under 18 is a minor. If he had sexual relations with a minor he should face legal consequences. If that's the way it went down...then he's getting what he deserved.

After reading the description of the charges those things stuck out and depending on his birthday, he could have been as young as 19 at the time, the victim as old as 17. A 19 year old and 17 year old did not seem like it would have been crazy back when I was that age. It seemed kinda common for a guy to be a year or 2 older than the girl back then.
I was just pointing out that since we do not know the details at this point it could be something like that as easy as it could be what the headline makes you think. After posting , I was rethinking my post. But I think that assuming his innocence until more info is available would only be fair.
I remembered a story ( from a few years ago or so) about a rider ( NOT THE SAME GUY) that was around the same age who had a Girlfriend that was a couple years younger than him. I think the rider was from England , but I could be way off on that. He got caught with a small amount of pot and when the cops searched his phone he had a topless photo of his girlfriend on it. Since she was 17 it was considered child porn and there was a law that when drugs and underage porn was together there was a crazy minimum sentence. So while it may have been legally wrong , it might not have been as morally wrong as the charges make it sound.

that is the Aussie former mx rider Kim Ashkenazi story, and it was not a little bit of pot, he was dealing drugs to fund road racing in the UK, but he would have been late 20's early 30's when arrested, seeing a 17 year old at that age is not the same thing,

I feel bad for Tyla Rattray , first he has issues with his training facility , then this kid is wearing a RF shirt in his mug shot.
Maybe my other take was being too generous towards assuming his innocence. I was focusing more on the definition of the second degree part of the charges. I'm going to stop researching the charges, etc. before I end up on some type of list.
