Ex-Pros racing Loretta's?

8/2/2023 12:10am

What do the words ‘professional’ & ‘amateur’ actually mean?

Its irrelevant how fast anyone is, or once was-  are they a ‘professional’ right now??

*Does applying for and gaining a race licence which allows you to race in the ‘pros’ actually mean you’re a ‘professional’??

Do retired pros in other sports go sign up in amateur / recreational leagues after they retire?

I know it’s different, but is it?

Just not a fan of Brown pulling tits n it actually becoming a joke, even to announcers.

I respect Brown and his professional capabilities he's gotten paid to continue to hone. It's laughable he's not riding classes where his skills could actually be tested.

You don't clean his boots do you?

Well, to be fair to you I think we'd need a list if we're picking idiots, and there'd be a lot of us on it for varying reasons 😂

I said the same the last couple years, but for me personally if I was fast enough for it to be worth showing up to Loretta's, I'd still probably just think it's badass to be lining up next to Brownie, Fro, Keith Johnson, Ryno, etc. As long as there's people to race with from those guys back, happy days...

I am a big fan of Emig's approach though, riding the 150 last year and upping to the 300 this year rather than going straight for a 450 purely for trophy hauling. That said, the man's gonna want to win, so I can see a 350 or 450 next year (I'll be a happy man if he proves me wrong though)

I think having full factory bikes and riders in B class is a bigger problem that needs to be addressed.

They had a 30 year old in the c class a few years ago. That is a more interesting talking point than former pros racing to me. C class is open age so it’s not against the rules but kinda cringy imo.

Lmao

I cannot understand this argument.  +35 and +45 are sportsman classes, so anyone that has scored points cannot compete in those classes. The others they can race.  Mike Brown is over 50 years old and should be appreciated for what he is doing and all the other former pros should be able to race too.  The sportsman classes were created for this reason, so what is the problem??

Only thing I question is that Keefer has a current ama pro license, and took a shot at qualifying at a pro national this year. Doesn't seem like he should be able to sign up for a class that isn't pro. I have nothing against him or his son, actually love the story of father/son racing together, but I also think the rules are a little too lenient when it comes to pros/ex-pros racing an age specific non pro class. IMHO the rules should be cleaned up a little and actually give these guys a class to race with competitors that can compete with someone like Jeff Emig (an AMA CHAMPION) or Mike Brown who has raced many nationals and scored points. They seem overqualified for an amateur age limited class. I have nothing against them racing a LL, but to let them make a mockery of guys that work an actual 9-5 and spend their own money to compete is a kick in the teeth to most.

Jeff Emig 1992 125 MX champion, 1996 & 1997 250 MX champion, 1997 250 SX champion. Mike Brown 2001 125 MX champion  if anyone’s counting. What...

What year did RC come back to race, and what class was he in?

Ricky went back in 2012 and had a 10th place start and before the lap was over he was pulling away.

Maybe we can create a new class, so someone can be national champion of the "very carefully and specifically written rules to exclude people who are better than I am" class.

From ML’s Mike Brown thread…

“On the first 40+ class podium of the day at LL's, Mike Brown stated he intends to race Loretta's one more year (2024) and attempt to qualify for a national afterward. He said if he makes it, it'll end his time at LL's.”

If I’m not mistaken, Mike is 51…? And he’s racing 40+ and winning? And we have some folks in here that just can’t stop whining about it? Oh, and it gets better: he’s talking about attempting to qualify for the Nat’s…AGAIN…at FIFTY TWO…next year! And if he does, he’s done racing LL’s

Yet, we’re still complaining about him showing up and winning at LL’s…In the old dudes classes…against other old dudes.

This stuff is funny.

💥💥💥👆👆👆👆👆👆💥💥💥 BAM!!!
By rule : it is a National Championship class for ANY rider over the AGE of 50!

Every single guy OVER the age of 50 is & SHOULD be eligible! There are ZERO reasons why any rider that meets the age requirement should be excluded…EVERY single one of us that has ever ridden a dirt bike has the exact SAME opportunity to ride, train, practice, improve and race if so desired!

Mike Brown or Jeff Emig or Barry Carsten or (insert random fast guy name here) riders should NOT be excluded because they achieved the ability to ride a dirt bike faster than other 50 year old men! We’ve all lived the same number of years to get to 50 and it’s my fault that I can’t run the pace Mike, Jeff or Barry are capable of at 50 years old! I should continue to try to improve and be fast enough to be competitive with other Vet riders at 50, NOT expect anyone that is faster than me because they’ve raced at a higher level than I ever achieved be excluded so I don’t have to deal with difficult competitors! It was a thrill to line up with Vet guys who’d achieved more success than me in my favorite endeavor, and I was happy to ride with them! I marveled at their skill as they rode away from me and the only disappointment I felt was that I couldn’t rise up to their level, not that they should be banished because they were better than me! 😎

Once you obtain a professional skill set, you're not an AMATURE any longer..

52 year old mike brown is a beast. He gets paid to train in a professional level and probably hands it to the kids he trains by the 20 minute mark.. He's going to ride pro yet again. That there says it all. He's still at that level. Period. He's sandbagging the hell out of the two classes he's riding, plain and simple.

John Dowd would be too if he didn't quit training. He's still got the skill because he's a professional.

8ten, there is no +35. Your +30."sPoRtSmAn" winner has qualified for premier class national motocross races as a professional. Lol.

This will be my last post regarding the matter. Egos as big as the western sky around here.

Simple solution is to create a class that's free to enter apparently these old guys spend too much money no transponders everybody gets first and a trophy and the Suzuki can identify as a KTM so it doesn't get fat shamed LOL
