I agree with Steve that some of the treatment of some foreign riders was uncool, in the past. That being said, I don't think most people were connecting anything Deegan did/said with that. People love the Lawrence Bros. So Steve made this an issue that wasn't even there, in my opinion. There was no need to parallel those incidents. If something actually happened after Deegans comments, then maybe I can understand his point. And of course now he plays the victim but he brought it on himself.
Off topic!
Just like this song (and Deegan’s comments) 99% of people would have never noticed if someone on the left didn’t pretend to have their selective feelings hurt..
That being said, listen to the song a few times and it’ll grow on you..
I’m probably way off base here but I see that doesn’t matter after reading a few of the assumptions posted in this thread.
So here’s my assumption, Deagan was referring to how the US based riders are being compared to the MXGP riders as less than. So he gets up there and says look, I came up in the US amateur system and I just beat hunter straight up.
thank god he is keeping it close unlike the 450s where Jett is going to go undefeated. Awesome achievement but boring for the races.
I don’t know if Steve feels this strongly about nationalism or if he just wants the controversy to stay relevant. His show would start to get boring if he agreed with everyone all the time.
Just stick with the motocross stuff and fuck hockey, the Canadian pastime…

If people were throwing rocks at hunter and jett screaming at them to go home in between chants of USA, then yeah that would be a problem. But they aren't, so it isn't a problem.
10 pages?! And I see they're still going off about this on Twitter too. I hate weekends with no race
But, did you pop wheelies?
People align themselves with groups when they feel weak and vulnerable, and they lash out at 'others' to attempt to appear strong. The Deegans are insecure people. Secure people don't work that hard to try to make you think they're strong; they don't need to.
So, yeah, the anti-foreigner garbage is weak, and being in a big crowd trying to intimidate one 150lb Australian man says a lot more about them than it does the Lawrences. This country has way too many dudes and bros, and not enough men.
Can you guys take the moto stuff somewhere else?
Touché!
I thought Deegan's comments were great. Happy to see an American go 1-1. When was the last time we saw that in the 250 class? I enjoy watching the Lawrence brothers race here but I also root for the home team.
Matthes is being stupid. And I thought people like Filthy Phil (and others) have made giving someone the finger (which I didn't see if it did happen) a normal part of everyday life these days? No? Does it still mean something bad??? Thought it was the 'cool thing' to do.
Naw, I’m good
I understand the nuance of this thread just fine....look how it has "developed".
It’s playing in the background as you type this…
I don't think fans should be flipping off any riders of any country on the podium or on the track in any venue. Just no place for it in moto IMHO. I'm not aware of any of that happening in Washougal however. If there were, that's wrong and there is no place for it. But again, I have not heard of that taking place. Which adds to the narrative that Steve was out of line in his comments about Deegan's comments at Washougal. Steve bringing up MAGA on IG when trying to explain his rant about Deegan just adds further to his political leanings crap. Steve let his political leanings get in the way and his emotions got the best of him. Thankfully, he allowed JT and Weege on his show to be voices of reason.
Ya it’s funny how dosent want the riders booed, flipped off or being called names but yet he calls the people “maga” people. Seems a bit like a statement from a hypocrite…..
Why are you hosting pulp in that image??
Pit Row
Looks like swimming has the same rivalry as Moto 🙈

USA won the participation award!
If anyone thinks USA pride is the #1 reason behind the Deegan's using this narrative you're a fool. This is Brain Deegan being the marketing genius that he is. I mean he got a made up bad boy brand (Metal Mulisha) all the way to the shelves of Walmart doing the same exact thing. The first time his kid uttered USA on the podium I knew exactly what was being done. If you fail to see it I can't help you. I think it's lame trying to drum up some USA/AUS rivalry when there is no such rivalry. I think the level of rivalry between the Lawrence's and them would naturally emerge based on each of their own passion to win.
Now with that said, I do believe 100% that the Deegan's are uber patriotic and love this country. But in this family it is marketing their brand first and then everything else second. Never forget that.
I do see a lot of people ending their posts with flags and MAGA. So could he be referring to them? Could he have possible had to delete or block a large group of replies ? Did MAGA turn into the N word , and it's only cool for another MAGA person to use it to describe somebody? I don't understand how its an insult ? Because he put them into a group of people who misunderstood what he was saying and were lashing out the most ?
As far as whatever he saw to make him decide to speak out. The stuff I saw happen at races with James Stewart , at Southwick, and High Point, etc were not really covered by media at the time. The Southwick thing had some coverage. I spoke with his Bus driver back then and James stopped coming to the races until the morning of the race . He stopped going for Saturday's because of the BS the "fans" were giving him. How was stuff like that good for the sport in anyway.
Perhaps there was something Steve has seen that has not been on the race broadcast ? Everybody that consumes Steves content is watching, listening to it to get HIS opinion of what went down. Or hear him ask riders questions. This is just his opinion of what he feels is going on or may develop into if it keeps going on the track it is going. WIth the way people are attacking Steve for his opinion, and nut even understanding what he said. I can see why he has the opinion that there is the seed planted to be very divisive. Just look at politics today, and how its turned into 1 or the other. When many people will agree that both suck. Why would anybody want to bring that disaster into Moto.
I know. I thought at first that people were missing parts of the info . Or writing off Steves opinion as him reading too far into something. But then I realized that there is also a bunch of people that not only understand what Steve was saying, but are totally cool with Deegan doing what Steve speculated.
I was looking at the Deegan's Merch the other day. and there was 1 item with a flag on it. So I really think he's just shooting for a spot on the MXON team and not trying to change his nickname from Danger Boy to Captain America. But if its a new marketing idea it might take a couple weeks or months to get the merch online. Who knows. Its just crazy how far off many people are with what they think Steve was complaining about.
Do you follow Brian or Haiden on social? Most of Brian’s stories had somthing to do with standing up against all this bullshit that is turning this country into a laughing stock. Our rights or trying to be taken away, trying to take away our 2nD amendment. Trust me they are 100% america and not doing this for attention
I watch the family channel and that's never been anything I've seen in any of it. I don't watch every video though so I could have missed stuff. The Metal Mulisha website is a different story. With a lot of MAGA style merch. I say Maga style in that they have items designed to look like and or play off of the Make america great again hats and shirts. With Bryan's history of taking polarizing views to grow his fan base, and knowing that moto is made up of mostly right leaning people, it would not surprise me if he was playing that up a little more. Knowing he can grab onto some of that $$.
I don't think Steve really cares if his love of country is exaggerated , it was just theusing it for dividing people and spreading hate towards people not from the US that Steve saw or felt like was going to result , that he was pointing out to be a bad thing. Again in his opinion.
Again Steves opinion , and people can disagree or agree. I do not have enough personal experience to really say if I agree or disagree that Haiden and the Deegan's are responsible for any of the hate. At first I was leaning towards not agreeing with Steve. But the more comments I see it makes me be open to it being a possibility. Perhaps unintended at first but we will see how things go from here. I have thought it was more of a "pick me for the MXON". And Haiden seemed like his statements were more rehearsed or not really a strong feeling .
My opinion on life in general ( if anybody cares) is that dividing people on purpose just to play them against each other and make money is not a respectful way to go about doing stuff. It might be the easy way. Loving one's country and respecting people from another place can both happen at the same time. I make MX graphics and love the products I make, But I also agree that there are other companies making cool stuff out there. And I do not feel the need to put others competitors down, to make myself look better. Its just how I prefer to do stuff, and I think people can get much more done when they work together on what they agree on, instead of getting stuck on what they disagree on.
The common thing that most people share in this thread is that they Love their country, Love motocross and think that Haiden should be the 250 guy for the MXON. I know this and any forum thrives on arguments, but can't we leave it here? Chear for your favorite racer, and show others respect until they show you they do not deserve that respect. I really do not want MX/SX to turn into the dumpster fire that politics are. I don't see Steves opinion as a left or right , I see it more as a moral opinion myself. Treat others as You want to be treated. If putting others down because they come from another place is cool, then its cool for them to say the same back to You. If You would not want somebody to say or do something to you, and that person has not said or done anything to show you that they should not have your respect. Treat them with the respect they show you. It comes down to if You feel like being divisive is good or bad. No matter what is being used to divide.
I disagree with Steves opinions on stuff often. Nobody gets everything right 100% of the time. He might end up being wrong on this stuff. But I admire his willingness to put it out there knowing the backlash he may get from people who do not understand his opinion or disagree. If You agree with somebody or something 100% of the time, I feel like You are not getting the truth, or there is some lack of realness.
I completely agree with you here. I had the same thoughts as well.
