This thread is a perfect example of what the current regime and media want in this country. Division

LOL, Its what the  previous one was doing too. Divide and have the people fight each other . It comes down to the Devil you know . Its not an exclusive for either side in politics these days. Studies have shown that fear is the biggest motivator in voting and donations. So each side plays the other as the devil.  Watch the media that favors whoever is the current party in power is and everything is great, then flip the channel and the sky is falling. Its all marketing, fundraising.

Everybody is so quick to judge somebody else. When I would bet that most people all agree on the big stuff. They just have different thoughts on how to get  the same things done.

Steves entire point was he wanted to avoid the division that he thought might happen or that he saw from the crowd. It had nothing to do with him disliking anybody. And was not saying that the flag waving and patriotism was bad. I do think Haiden should be the 250 Guy for the MXON regardless of whatever is going on. He is the most consistently fast 250 guy from the US As he has pointed out.

Very uncool people are doing this to Steve. The people who do this are proving him right.

Steves post:  lot of this.....

But cool story Steve-bro.

Not everyone peeved about your comments are "MAGA  people".    ...but way to go on insulting proud Americans again.

Anyone watch Brian Harman walk up the 18th last Sunday at The Open?  Anyone watch the last week of the Tour de France?  This isn’t anything contained to just American motocross

Steve’s only making it worse by having a public opinion about the fans.  Jett and Hunter will be fine, and they probably thrive off shit like this. Let them race and let the fans fan.  If Steve had never mentioned this at all, this wouldn’t even be an issue outside a small group at the podium every round. Now it’s an issue on Vital, twitter, instagram and Steve’s DM’s. Some people suck, and no amount of criticism is going to change that, only make it worse.

I can see how you feel what he wrote in that was an insult. But before that its a stretch to say he was insulting anybody.  Perhaps the MAGA people he references have been the loudest in expressing their views towards him and why he singled  them out?

But what's wrong with Steve saying he dislikes people treating others in a way he feels is disrespectful?  If the talking shit , and flipping other riders off is cool. Why is it uncool to not like that? And think that acting more professionally would be a bad thing? I still see nothing anyplace that he has said he thought anything about being proud to be an american was bad. Steves issue was not the flag and being proud of being born in the US ,he even says he loves the US in that post.

So is it safe to say that everybody that everybody that loves the insulting and trash talking  towards people from other countries , just because they come from another country, is also cool with people trash talking and insulting  people from the US just because they are FROM the US?  Or is it only cool when You treat others with disrespect ?

You can be proud of where you come from  without disrespecting others who also want to live their dreams in that place You were lucky enough to be born in.

If it wasn't an issue before , and its a small group now. What's to stop it from being a bigger group. Everything starts small.Perhaps he has seen a trend of it growing?

I was at the Foxboro SX as a little kid when JMB won. The entire Stadium booed him and almost everybody was gone by the time he finished his podium speech. I remember thinking how horrible that was for him to come here and put in so much work to be great at a sport  I have grown to love. And even back then I thought it was dumb that people disliked him because he was french.

Fast forward to  Marvin Musquin, and as an adult I remembered how JMB was treated and thought how cool it was that people were welcoming to Marvin. JMB was keeping to himself and maybe if he was more outgoing and easier to understand it might not have been so bad for him.

I think that just like every other thing that Steve thinks is  wrong or going a wrong direction , that he speaks out on. This is the same thing. It just happens to be a group of people  booing and flipping riders off. I think that if people were doing it in a group to ANY rider  he would have the same problem with it.  People are just stuck on parts of this that are not relevant.

I get it man. It’s lame as hell. I’d be surprised if it ever gets to the level it did with the French guys.  The Lawrence’s are super friendly, easy to like and well spoken. But who knows I guess. I still think Steve is making it a bigger deal than it is.  Plenty of riders (domestic and foreign) have been boo’d when they started dominating. Like I said, there’s idiots in every sport. Nothing he says is going to change that for the better.

There’s trying to explain yourself and then there’s the silly shit that Steve just posted. He tries to set himself apart from current political themes while exemplifying those very themes with name calling and “choosing sides” while trying to explain away WHY he’s in the USA…which is all…

Kinda hilarious/

Steve, you’ve called me a “Cock Holster” and you’ve thrown some shit my way on a few occasions. it’s all good. But, when you try to mansplain your single-sided approach to things & then say things that alienate people…when you’re trying…I think…to be a unifying force in moto… I really do believe that’s where your hearts at…well…

Brother, you should have known…

Leave this shit alone, let it just hang out there in the wind, take a load off…and..then…tell your listeners…“Hey, all I’m saying is…” on your next show.

I ain’t mad at’cha. I got nothing but love for ya. Do your thing, Boy!

I hope its nothing more than a small group.  I understand the  competitiveness and being a fan of another racer. And wanting your favorite rider to win. Back that day I was bummed out that Bradshaw did not win.  I know it happens in other sports, but why take the bad parts from other sports?  Wasn't it cool when Eli and Kenny shared a plane? And then went out and battled each other  and raced cleanly?   The clean racing makes battles last longer, respect leads to clean racing.

I doubt that the level of hate would get that high with the Lawrence's. But really look at what Deegan did with Travis and the Metal Mulisha.  And back then you did not have the mainstream support ( for the MM style of   bad guy outsider , MC gang type  of stuff he was putting out) that a Pro American movement can get these days. I personally feel like its poor sportsmanship to resort to that type of thing. No need to put others down,Especially  You are already out performing them on the track.

I feel like you can be proud, like, be a fan ,etc. of something without putting something else down.

I really thought he was overreacting , or maybe thinking too much into what was going on at first. But the more I see, the more I think he might have a point.

Once again people only hear what they want to hear. Maybe that’s Steve’s pov and his experience, why can’t people just disagree with him and HIS experience and move on.

You guys haven't heard booing until you heard RC getting booed when he was introduced wearing a crown and being proclaimed to be the new king of SX by the promoters. Blush

Again , this was NOT what Steve was saying he  had any problem with. Just for those people who might be confused.

I think that People should go back and find all of the other times Haiden has  done this. Grab some photos of the Deegan's house with the Giant flags. All the merch with an american  flag theme, go buy it all and show them support!

I really think Haiden was just trying to get on the MDON team. I'm sure he loves living in the US too. He's been racing people from other countries ever since he started racing big races. He has not been American Boy until he looked like the best pick to be the 250 rider for the MXON.  I do think he is the best  rider for that spot right now. And I'm a fan of his, because of his riding, how quickly he learns, and how he hasn't been doing the WWE style Metal Mulisha style stuff.  I also think a lot of stuff is great about America and like long walks in the woods for anybody who cares.

I'll say this...I think Deegan should be on the MXdN team.  His results have earned it.

But if yer gonna wrap yerself in the flag...you had better be squeaky clean.  I'm talking Dungey or Canard clean.

Cheating accusations or shit talking automatically disqualifies you from using the symbol imo.

Go ahead and pretend but don't fool yerself...we know shinola.

This is all complete bullshit IMO.

Deegan isn't getting on the podium spruking hate speech, waving the US flag yelling "Are we gonna let these Australian convicts come over here and steal our series?"...and he won't either.

Unfortunately any flag can be used as a divisive tool and Matthes is coming in with his typical all or nothing angle acting as if some lynch mob is going to happen...news flash it wont...moto isn't some powder keg of racial tension.  If we now get a group of morons in the crowd booing Hunter/Jett because they are "foreigners" so fucking what, hopefully they get kicked out and we all make an example of them on the forums and move on.  Edit:  Wait for Matthes "gotcha" moment if any tiny incident happens now "I told everybody this would happen".

The worst thing that could happen is the AMA introduces some knee-jerk ban based on fear mongering to again cater to the minority.

Over here in Australia our flag is unfortunately being more and more viewed as a symbol of division.  It's fucking sad.

Exactly my thoughts.

I wore an American flag on my uniform for 20 years.  I was proud as fuck to do so.  I never ever considered using it for personal gain or advantage.  Those that do so disgust me.

That flag represents freedom not only to the home folks but the entire world.  Anyone that defames it for personal gain is no friend of mine.

Wave the flag on the podium...no problem.  Pretend you are some great patriot while doing so....fuck the fuck off.

Considering the Lawrence family lives up to the spirit of being an American and considering their openness and values, I'm not sure why this whole, "Americans on the podium" thing is necessary.  It's just Deegan marketing, and a mistake.

You are probably right, there are a lot of chumps that get sucked in emotionally to marketing campaigns. Carry on.

Would Haiden have said this if he were battling close in the championship with Hampshire or Cooper and they’d won most the races? The answer to that question tells you all you need to know.

That song sucks ass. I don’t agree one bit with cancel culture on either sides, but that song needs to go away, just because it’s a shit song.

Hey everyone I went and rode last night and it was awesome. Cooled off around 8, track was mint. Didn’t hear Deegan mentioned once.
