SHOUT as bike cleaner....CamP...

CamP suggested: Soak bike for 30 minutes with SHOUT for a squeaky clean scooter.

Conclusion....WORKS BITCHIN!

TEST: I use a chain lube that flings everywhere...but soaking with SHOUT...the chain lube on the hub, airbox, swingarm and frame was completely removed.

How do you clean chains and air filters? Mineral spirits?

Thanks BR. I use the shout on my chain too. It works great on the Motorex 622 Off Road chain lube I use. Air filters get soaked in a bucket of Kerosene for a few minutes before I bath them twice in two separate buckets of warm soapy water, then a clear water bath. I have four 2 gallon buckets for this and set them up like an assembly line. I prefer Maxima FFT liquid air filter oil. I go the full factory mechanic route when I service the air filter. The subframe comes off and the airbox is removed and everything gets the Shout treatment so it's as clean as the day it rolled off the showroom floor.

The wife buys Shout by the gallon.

I heard fantastik works great as well..........never tried shout but ill be gettin me some in the near future.

FYI: Anyone that uses the No-Toil stuff for their filters and runs out of cleaner can go to walmart and get some Sun OXY clean ....it's the same EXACT stuff and you can get almost a quart for 3 bucks! ....There are a few other brands but sun is the cheapest and works EXACTLY the same.....same components sodium bicarbonate 35% I believe? All I know is that I compared them and they were exactly the same....even has that warming effect on your hands when you try to wash them with it.....Good for gear too.

What's SHOUT guys? Is it an actual MX product or just something off the shelf??? I've found some of the general household cleaners work best too...

Out of curiousity, you said let it soak for 30 minutes. Won't it usually dry up by then? Even if I don't touch it and its in shade when I wash my bike it will dry up on its own by then. Whats the trick to letting it soak for 30 minutes?

Hose off all the accumulated mud first, then wait for the bike to drip dry for a while before you spray it all over with the Shout to remove the dirt stains.

Soak it in Shout for 15, 20, 30 minutes. It doesn't really matter. Have a beer, or whatever. As soon as you hit it with a water nozzle, the dirt melts off.

I have been using MEAN GREAN for years. It works great and is cheap. $5 a gallon at the local FAMILY DOLLAR. I will try the Shout as soon as the damn snow f's off.

CamP is officially the most helpful dude on Vital.

I finally rode with the SDG tall seat you talked me into. HUGE difference! Glad I didn't go with the lowered foot pegs.

Wesley's Bleach White works works good on the aluminum frames, cylinders, wheels etc...

Bleach White is acidic and will corode aluminum. Ever see a car or truck with aluminum wheels that look almost white in color? That is caused by people cleaning them with Wesley's Bleach White or similar acidic chemical. No a wheel cleaner made for polished aluminum would probably work great for frames, engines, etc.

No, Shout will not harm anything on your bike, no matter how long you let it soak. .

Is SHOUT safe enough for boots? Using Simple Green made me think I was drying out the leather. I searched Vital for a past thread and found nothing.
Since there is about 5-6" of snow on my practice track, and more falling, I am hauling chest protectors, helmets and boots into the basement to power wash the race season off, before a months storage.

Huh? I have been using simple green for 10+ years and never had a pad problem. Normal wear and performance using it.
I have tried shout and it works exactly the same but seems to take longer to get the tough stains out. The only really bad stuff i have come across is that purple stuff, cant remember the name but its super corrosive and even takes the gold of upper fork tubes!

Prior to getting turned onto Shout, I used SG for 15 years. The biggest problem I had with it was that it dulled the anodized aluminum finishes over a long period of use. It's something that happens slowly and is difficult to detect until the bike is a year old, or so. With Shout, anodized aluminum remains bright for years.

I usually leave it on no longer than a minute or two and have not noticed any discoloring, but you're right about continued use. I know it will eat away red clay stains pronto!
