Actually the look makes sense for Washougal.  I believe 93 was the first year of Yamaha doing all their YZ ads and brochures at Washougal that  were pretty iconic through the rest of the 90s and into the 00s.  It may not be a look from 50 years ago…and it’s not another yellow Bob Hannah look that’s been way over done…but it’s 30 years ago and reaches a lot of 30-50 year old fans…

I was at the track today for press day and everyone was really digging those Yamahas.

This exact graphic and seat cover combo are available from D'Cor right now. In the next week or so there will also be a similar design available without the M claw.

I think they look amazing. I have zero complaints. I've always loved white YZs, whether it be white/red or white/magenta. If they offered a similar look to buy, stock, I'd buy it.

Hate on it if you want, but I LOVE it. Obviously would be much much better without the monster logo but that's rad. It's just cool that they're doing anything other than the all-black look.

For those of you who say this is from the wrong era, you're either too young to know better or too old to remember. This was an epic era for Yamaha that signified their resurgence to the top of the sport. For example, how many premier class wins did Yamaha have from 1986 to 1991 (250&500 SX&MX)?

1986: 0

1987: 0

1988: 1

1989: 0

1990: 6

1991: 5

Then in '92, a young phenom known as the Beast from the East came in and led them to 11 250 class wins.

By 1993, Yamaha felt like it was coming on strong and would dominate the next few years (except that a kid named Jeremy would have something to say about that). But going into 1993, Yamaha was cool again.

Very cool Yamaha, well done.

...but this is NOT a 50th anniversary bike.....at best, it's a 30th anniversary homage.

There is nothing that ties it to the 1974 YZ250 except in name.

The pics you posted of Bradshaws works bike look far better than the supposed "anniversary" bike.     The purple rims on the 250f are ghastly...

And the mid ‘80’s looking CR anniversary edition is not an early 70’ Elsinore look.

I understand the want for yellow/black or white/red, but it's been done a lot.

Props to Yamaha for trying to do something a little different and focusing on a different (and impressive) time period in their history.

I can see an argument for silver/red/black, I get where you folks are coming from too, but at least they made an effort and cool they took a chance on the white/purple.

I have NOTHING against purple or pink, but how can you guys say that they did a good job with the design on this bike? It looks cheap.

I can’t belive that i am with magoofan on this one but Throttlejockey and Honda makes way better tribute bikes than this one.

I do see what you mean, but a lot of stuff in the 90's was kind of along those lines man.

The number board section you outlined looks more 'period correct' and neater than the rad shroud section you outlined, but I can see what they were going for so I'll just enjoy the retro vibe and not get hung up on it 🙂

if I was really gonna nit pick, I'd sooner have seen silver rims.

Why would they re-do what they've already sold to the public? Some people are so stuck in the "old days." This is cool, different and I think it looks excellent minus the green/black claw. Who cares if it's not exactly a "50th" livery.

The Factory Yamaha 250 and 450 Teams are running that 93 livery at Lommel this weekend.

It's good to see some co-ordination going on.

In the Lommel thread I said I'd like to see the White with Red Speedblocks Euro  livery, and the Yellow with Black Speedblocks livery from the USA, as well as the original Silver YZ at remaining rounds. Those together with the current  Blue used this year up until now, would cover the 50s years of the YZs nicely. One GP rider today was running a Yellow YZF450.

The bikes and gear look rad. They're not trying to market to the 2 boomers on vital who would honestly complain, no matter what the designers came up with, they're targeting younger generations that would appreciate the design even if they weren't riding in 1974. This design appeals to anyone who remembers the early 90's bikes as well as the current generation of youngsters.

Also, from a practical point of view, the 1974 Yamaha has metal body work that was painted metallic silver. Have you ever seen metallic silver plastics?

I'm glad they didn't  do the yellow and black thing again. I thought it was cool at Unadilla  when they did it the first time. I have a cool photo of Chad Reed coming out of the gravity Cavity that has a 70's feel to it. But then they did the yellow and black over and over. They have sold white and red bikes as the optional color  recently. So either of those designs have already been done, been copied by many graphics companies and while they may stick out and look cool. These kits will get more attention than a recycled color scheme would have. When I heard they were going to do an anniversary bike, I thought " oh boy, another yellow and black yamaha".

I like that they went with something different, and I feel like it has a good flow considering all the limitations you have when designing a graphic kit for a factory team. Even the black around the Monster M works well. And flows with the lines of the gas tank. I was a Bradshaw fan as a kid , and those YZ's that had the orange seats and then into the magenta that Bradshaw rode were some of my favorites from back then.

Throttle Jockey and Honda have less restrictions to work around as far as prominent sponsor logos . Honda's big sponsors are Honda . That makes things easier to give a retro look when the main spots are open for Honda logos or designs. As a graphic designer myself, I really like how they made a 90's graphic for a modern bike. And did not try and make a modern bike look like a 90's bike like some designers have done with 90's inspired kits. image-20230722155105-1

The 93 Yz was a cool looking bike. I made my 02 yz125 into a 93.

Key words here are "daughters bike".   as in "Girls colors".  Wink

Very cool that you did that for your daughter BTW.

Do you have any idea how ignorant it makes you look to use the term "boomer"?        Not to mention that it's so played out, just like "butthurt", "snowflake", "pulled the trigger", "living rent free in your head" and all the other buzz terms.

The older folks just laugh at you because they know your time will come when you get old and some ignorant punk starts disrespecting your generation with some lame ass insult.

For the record, i'm GenX.....but you go right ahead and keep using your cute little "label" to make yourself feel superior.
