Said he was motivated to come back to just gets points and stay sharp for the 3 race playoffs.

I wonder if these playoffs kinda backfired on the nationals and most guys competitive juices are just not there. All waiting and going through the motions just to get to the big money playoffs?

He’s way out of the points.

I’m assuming most riders are on big bonuses to win or podium nationals so there’s still motivation.

He’s way out of the points for the nationals, but he’s now leading the SMX points.

Exactly.  He’s out there trying to build points for SMX.  If not for SMX we possibly wouldn’t have seen him again until next year.

That’s my point, if the 3 race SMX and the 5.5M didn’t exist, would these guys be putting in more of an effort in the nationals, especially the 450 class, because right now it doesn’t seem they are.

So what you’re saying is these guys aren’t motivated to accumulate max points? Bullshit…that make zero sense…They a racing to gather the most points they can, nobody is just going through the motions…

That doesn’t make sense.  They potentially get money for national results, and they need to accumulate SMX points to be ranked as high as possible when the finals start.

I think that there might be guys racing Nationals that may not have if not for the SMX playoffs. Chase might have just decided to sit out the rest of the nationals if his only motivation is the SMX playoff races, if those races did not exist. We might not have had Roczen show up. Webb may not have even given the Nationals a shot.  I think that they are good for the nationals.

Wow, a good counterpoint. That makes sense too.

Maybe it’s just me, but Chase kinda came across as he would be content finishing behind Jett all summer and seed as high as possible and then all bets are off at the SMX.

That first  moto today did not look like Chase was wanting to settle for anything less than a win.

I think this new smx arrangement is taking riders by suprise.  When they see how it all plays out,  and the resulting money,  their actions will change.

Did some homework on smx playoffs.

I’ll say this, with just three races, and the money up for grabs, there will be some folks put on the ground.

Smx won't last, mark my words.

It's just a ploy to neutralise the opposition, bought on by their own greediness by not paying the national riders what they are worth.

I guess I need to understand how the point system works.
SX/MX points added together determine your seeding? What does this mean? You qualify or gate pick or what?

and then SMX, the points start over and it turns into a 3 race series?

Is this correct?

So if Chase has the most accumulated points, he enters playoffs with 26 points, 2nd place with 23, 3rd, 21 and so on.  Like results of one SX main.

I think this is how it works, after a quick glance at the rules.

1million from 450 winner

500k for 250 winner

Ok that’s makes more sense, so they do have alittle motivation to race the nationals, kinda like the lottery, increases their odds. Dang, I think Jett is already up to 6th place in SMX standings.
Thanks for explaining 👍🏼

not too sure about that after listening to what DV had to say bout outdoors?

It seems as if the smx is actually encouraging riders to come back and race. The field would be even more depleted if not.

Im confused/curious… do points start over for playoffs or just add to existing points?

Chase is a pro. He didn't come back just to cruise around for smx points. He's a damned fine motocross racer. But he ran into Jett Lawrence. Epic races today.

Top 20 in each class are awarded points from 25 down to 1 as per the points for winning a moto or SX main.  These are the starting points for the playoffs.

Even before SMX, the AMA MX and SX series were exponentially the highest paying in the world. I think your comment says more about the health of racing organizations outside of the US, they still can't compete with the payout in America.

Well without SMX sexton might not be there at all. And we wouldn’t of had Webb for 4 rounds. Or Anderson coming back. And Roczen for a few rounds.

I feel there's another reason he came back. I would bet good money he also came back to make sure Jett doesn't get a perfect season.

Championship is not realistic, but you can sure spoil your biggest competitors season. They will be racing for years to come, so whatever momentum you can take away from him, take every shot you have.

For sure come round 3 in the LA Coliseum with triple the points on the line in that one race, there's definitely going to be a lot of front wheels taken out.

Considering the improvement over the last couple of races, I'd say damn good. Whether or not he gets a win, Jett's gonna have to work a hell of alot harder than he has been
