Best mx track in Australia

In 1991 i wanted to hitch hike all 5000 km from Cairns to Manjimup WA for the mx des nations. Impossible.

a mx track should be be natural terrain with large elevation changes and off cambers.

in the rainforest on a hill near mirriwini north of Innisfail near the Russell river and chooky chooky creek there was a track which Steve Gall declared the best track in Australia.

The owner was a timber cutter. The track was natural terrain with large elevation changes and off cambers.

It was used once a year which allowed grass and loam to fill the craters.

Red rainforest loam.Dry it was beautiful. When wet bikes would stop and go backwards down hills before being swallowed into jungle.

Rickard’s off Eubenangee Road, was awesome! Has disappeared under trees now, not much to see except the old tower quietly decaying.

Did you ever see the track at Broadford where they held the 500cc GP in 2000 and 2001?  It was exactly what you described.

Broadford is a terrible track, dirt is crap , very rarely is it in good shape. Its on a hilly gully but by no means in a picturesque setting.

hard to disagree here,

Coolum location is good, but Connondale is awesome,

went to Broadford for the GP in 01,  it was a cool event, but dirt and track not amazing,

Echo Valley, Connondale and Gum Valley for me. All have great dirt and undulating terrain.

Rickard’s, as described by the OP, also had these desirable characteristics, but wasn’t a national standard track. Probably the best local track I’ve ever seen though. I’ll have to see if I have any photos of it still.

This seems like a nice track, but the word on the street is that the next Australian GP will be at a new build track at the Bend. If they create some elevation, they could dig a hole in the ground to have some down- and uphills and to create good viewing spots. I got the idea it won't be like Assen or other "on the race track we build a mx track" organizations.

EDIT: This seems to be Gum Valley Motocross park... Nice!

EDIT2: Is the video above Connondale? It seems to be Echovalley, found the website from Australian Pro MX.

Yep that’s Gum & Echo Valleys. This is Conondale (a bit dry in this video):

P.s. About time Oz had another GP round. I just hope a worthy track is chosen.

What about Mount Kembla? Should, could, would they be able to do a GP? The track seems a bit to narrow even for a local race, but on the other hand it seems also a big property where they could build a "renewed" track on. They have natural elevation and a big city close by Wollongong and Sydney is a little 7 hours away (don't know if that is much in Australia).

I'm going to chime in and say Mundubbera in Queensland was always my favourite track when I used to race. It's natural terrain and has lots of steep downhills and up hills, g-outs, and some decent jumps. After that Echo Valley in Toowoomba, but I've heard the track has changed a lot.

Sydney is only about 40 mins from Mt Kembla. The track does have lots of natural elevation.

There was an epic track that held an Aussie title round years ago but it was in the middle of nowhere.. I can't even remember what state it was in.. Does anyone need me to be any more vague? haha

But yeah Echo Valley and Connondale are incredible!

True, mine google maps was still on bicycle for some reason... So update Mt Kembla to GP standards and have two Australian Grand Prix races? You could in fact use so much tracks, because The Bend is the South-Australian district and much of the named tracks are in Queensland miles away and Mt Kembla is South-Wales and that is also +12 hours drive from The Bend. It would be possible if the Australian crowd and two organizers are into it...

I hear you. I’ve been a member there for 30+ years. Another good option not far from Mt Kembla is Appin which is another track with great natural elevation changes and well located.

Ah yes that'd be it.. Seems like it didn't get rough cause by the looks they would've done about 9 laps in a 30+2 haha

Awesome memories from Reedy Creek back in the day. Maybe not best track, but so much fun racing under lights as a junior

Second that mate, Reedy Creek was awesome! Weeknight practices under the lights were mad, was a really jumpy track to.
