I have the 9oz coming, looking forward to seeing how it feels.
Where did you find one in stock?
I ordered it from Slavens
I had the right side radiator on back order for 4 months. I had sent mine out to have repaired until it got here.

I was a little bummed to see that KTM/ Pankl had outsourced them to CHINA.

DeCal Works Huge Plastic Inventory of UFO and Polisport kits.
Just like the front number plate mount, my radiator kept getting pushed back. Thankfully my dealer was kind enough to tell me who had them in stock. A dealer in Atlanta had one. They reluctantly let me purchase it and shipped it to me. How nice of them. I’ll send this damaged one out and hopefully it can get repaired. I need to send out my ecu and have it remapped while I’m down.
Anyone replace the top end yet? What piston kit did you use? I usually go with stock piston kit… stock is Vertex I think? 55hrs… mostly sand, so she gets worked pretty hard…
Go with Vertex, even though they make OEM KTM at this moment they are not the same. Vertex has shortened the intake skirt on the piston 2 mm as there has been some interference issues between the crank and the piston skirt. Most of the KTM ones out there still have a longer skirt currently most of the Vertex pistons are on back order, but most distributors should have them by June 30.
I have one backordered so as soon as they are available to me then everyone should also be seeing them. I just checked this morning and it still shows June 30.
Thank you for the reply…I have seen the piston interference video as well, when you get your piston can you post the part #… assume it will be an updated part#…
I Will update once I get it. The PN I have on order is 24244A. I’ll measure it once I have it to verify
PatH, I don't even have a 300 (sure I'll try one one day when) but thanks for sharing that, solid info and it's interesting to hear about Vertex's revisions.
Stuff like this often goes under the radar unless someone puts it out there 👍
Vertex is now showing 7/31/23
not what I was hoping for.
Thinking of getting an Sx300 for track and trail but have a couple of questions: has anyone installed a recluse on their 300 and how well does it work and, would I be better off just getting the Xc?
I”m at 56-57hrs on stock top end… I will just order the oem piston kit & mod the piston myself….
Same dilemma for me sx or xc. I am curious how this tbi responds to mods. My 18xc had a Rk head, opened up airbox, vforce, smart carb and PC pipe. It was a monster and revved out like a champ.
That's sad because Ktm owns their own radiator factory in Austria . I think it falls under the WP factory . Think WP also makes the pipes , frames & obviously the suspension
I agree ! I know that previously to Pankl making the radiators, WP has made them. It must be pretty cost effective for them to have China making them, instead of doing them in-house. Scary to think of “what else” they are having made in China….
I pulled my pipe off today to replace the o-rings that were leaking and took a look at the piston, through the cylinder and I gotta say that for having 100 hours on it, it looks to be wearing nicely from this angle-
I’m going to let it go another 50 hours, before I bother replacing the piston/ rings. Unless it develops any sign of power loss.
I did a quick search for that part # and found that they list the ‘23 SX300, but not the ‘23 XC300, which is very odd, since the OEM pistons have the same part #.
with reports of the skirt hitting on the SX300’s, but not any that I’ve seen on the XC300’s, I’m baffled… this is an older piston, I don’t think that the skirt has been modified to clear ??

$208 for piston/ rings/ pin and clips.
Summit racing has the same piston kit for $160

both links show the ‘23 SX300 in the fitment, along with previous year bikes, including the ‘22 XC300, but not the ‘23 XC300…. Weird deal and confusing as to what the deal is on the newly modified piston that you have on order.
I gotta do some more investigating to see what piston will work in the ‘23 XC 300. Good thing I’m not in a rush. Lol
Pit Row
For 2024 5 speed and air forks for the sx vs 6 speed and spring forks plus the bigger tank and kick stand for the xc. ~$1800 difference in price unless you can find a leftover 2023 of one or the other. ‘23 xc also has air forks.
I think it will respond similarly to mods except you will need to get it tuned somehow. Force probably won’t do much for you. At some point in the last few years ktm updated their reeds.
I’m under the impression the 23 xc300 & Sx 300 engines are identical….
The 1800 and the fact that I have been hitting the track more lately has me leaning towards the SX. It's a damn shame they aren't allowed in pro mx. If they were allowed, I'd bet we'd have seen some built 300's by now.
With that $20k for top finishing two stroke at Washougal we might get to see some built 250s.
I read as much of this thread as I could before posting, so forgive me if I missed this already being asked:
The shifter on these things (300SX) is either too high or too low. I can get my 450 even with the top of the peg just like every other bike I've owned, but this thing sits either like a spline high or low. It's like the shaft is clocked a smidge off so the splines don't line up to get the shifter flat
Anybody else notice this? Anyone have a solution?
Anyone receive the updated piston?
My bike was shipped with the shifter installed 1 spline to low…compared to my other bikes. I just moved 1 spline up, level with top of footpeg, that was sweet spot for me. You can get foot pegs that are off set, + - down & back also.
Same here size 12 boot. I switched to the Raptor lower and set back pegs (5mm down, 10mm back). Made a huge difference for me.
Updated piston? Tell me more
What's weird with mine is when I moved mine up a spline, it's sitting above the peg. I thought I was smoking crack so I looked at the lever/peg on my Husky and it's level with the top of the peg as well. I'm trying to avoid getting lower pegs cuz they all seem to move them back as well, which causes me problems with knees-I'm old and have ridden MX my whole like, therefore I'm fucked up.
I appreciate the replies guys
I read through this whole thread. Very good information. Anyone have a review of the twisted development ecu for the Ktm300sx?
Thanks
Supposedly there is an updated piston with possibly less material on the intake lower portion of the piston… I have yet to hear of anyone confirming this…this was related to some claiming the intake lower portion of the stock piston can make contact with the crank webs…again… this is/ has been an isolated incident that has yet to be actually proven as far as I know. 60hrs on mine with no issues, getting ready to perform top end replacement and was waiting for confirmation of said updated piston….
