It turned into a build when I found a set of 47mm Showa A-kit forks and PC clamps. These are rare and cool!

While the forks are awesome the super score was a super clean Showa A-kit shock for the CR chassis. Nice shocks like these are tough to find these days! I boxed the suspension up and sent them to Factory Connection so they could work their magic.

Suspension is fancy but that’s not going to make this bike the best CR250 that Honda never built. What’s going to make that happen is…
my old 2000 cylinder reed engine.
I built this engine 10 years ago and installed it in a 2006 frame at that time. The cylinder reed engine in the gen 3 frame is something special. It blends the best of the Honda 2 stroke engines and the best of the Honda frames to create a fantastic motorcycle. Hence the thread title!
Regrettably I had to sell the original 2006 I built when I moved across the country. I missed that bike greatly as it was one of my all time favorites.
Just recently I got the opportunity to get that engine back and I jumped on it!
I spent hour and hours building this engine years ago and stoked to have it again. I’m going to be going through it, making it fresh and installing it in this 02 frame.
More to come.
Rad!!
Very nice build
Great setup, I'm looking forward to seeing your progress on this build. I'd vote for keeping the original plastic design rather than the CRF restyle stuff imo, if you're between the two.
No restyles happening on this one.
I am thinking factory Honda 98 or 99.
I love a good JWACK build! Looking forward to seeing this one.
How about 2001 RC250...
I deleted my last post because I thought you posted this bike!
Honda did build one of these!
I almost want to build a replica of it. Gen 3 frame with the 00-01 plastic. But I have soft spot for the 02-07 plastic shape so I probably won’t.

Currently building an 06 and went with the 99 look. It looks grwat on the newer jen. I have a set of 49mm kit forks going on mine but need to have the clamps bored still.
That’s what I’m talking about!
Beautiful.

Nice motor swap! That suspension is primo.
It's look is not ruined.
Form follows Function.
There is beauty in a change that is done by necessity.
You've got to have range - and you needing range, means the bike is used to good effect.
It certainly doesn't look like a squared Up tower, waiting to geld you, as so many are. What brand tank is it?
That’s true. It’s an IMS, my gripe is mostly that it’s a little wide and doesn’t have a clean fit. I really wish someone made a 2.5 gallon for the cr.
A stock tank will help, but the radiators are still too wide, works bike's radiators had different mounting points, works radiator...
Stock radiator...
What did you do to that motor? Who did the porting/head work etc?
I did all the engine work myself.
I’m about to yank it all apart and I will post more details. Just waiting on some back ordered parts to show up.
That frame looks amazing! Nice build!
Any frame mods required to fit the 2000 engine in the 3rd gen frame?
Only one small frame modification is needed. A very small bit of material is removed from the bottom middle engine mount.
Did you open the engine?
that will be such a nice bike! The 2001 RC graphics looks good. I love the japanese bikes.
I just received all the OEM parts to rebuild it this week. All new shift forks, shift shafts, every bearing and a new OEM crank.
These case reed engines are nice because you can still find all oem parts easily.
It hasn’t been opened since I built it 10 years ago! This weekend I plan on opening it up.
Overall it was in decent shape with only the clutch being more worn than I anticipated. I will most likely pick up a good used OEM unit to replace it.
Now the tedious work starts.
