After getting rid of my '22 FC 450 (build thread here), I got the itch for another modern 4-stroke. I got a pretty good deal on a '23 YZ 450 Monster Edition. Took it out to Barona Oaks the day after I got it.
Put about 3-hours on the bike in two rides to break it in, changed the oil and filter, then started the tear down for the initial round of mods.
Torn down:
First up, I sent the suspension off to Enzo for springs and a revalve for my weight and speed, plus some technica goodies for good measure. It should be back by Friday, so I put the new X-Trig clamps, bar mounts, Renthal Twinwalls, ARC front brake lever, clutch perch, soft half waffle grips, and some ti control bolts on.
Everything on and together (sans suspension)

I'm trying to do somewhat of a Star replica. Hopefully the suspension comes in this Friday and I can get the new graphics in the interim. More mods and what not to come!
The 22' front fender and plate actually look pretty killer on these imo!
Collin Jurin runs ones and I dig it
Is it weird I kind of like this?

Got the same bike, definitely following!Seen your other builds! Yea buddy! Thanks for picking the Yamaha! I just got my suspension back from Enzo, HUGE improvement!
Update ?
A brief update here on what's been going on since my last post in this thread. Here's the parts haul:
- Enzo suspension with heavier springs front a rear, updated valving for weight and "speed" and technica compression adjusters on the forks
-FMF 4.1 titanium complete exhaust
- gyt-r clutch and ignition covers w/ ti bolts
-Braking 280mm oversized front rotor
-kite hubs
-works connection titanium footpeg lowering mounts, ti pins, and ti Raptor pegs
-lightspeed carbon fiber glide plate, disc guard, chain guide, and countershaft sprocket guard
-anchor grip tape
-d'cor 23.5 Star Racing graphics and seat cover
-works connection start device
-dunlop MX33 rear and MX3S front
Awesome build, almost making me like Blue better than orange…
What is the advantage of the ARC levers/perch?
What a beauty! Good job, love these new yams
Wow looking factory! Did you try different maps?
that bike is definitely capable when you see what Harlan did this year and obviously Kullas those few rounds of outdoors and even Mcelrath on a showroom floor bike.
Both the front brake and clutch levers are folding, so they won't break. I also like that they are a little thinner than OEM. The clutch perch itself is mostly just bling, as the stock yamaha perch is also adjustable on the fly...not that I need to adjust it much, but theoretically...
I did use one of the maps Keefer posted, but I couldn't really tell a difference. Biggest thing I want is to smooth out the hit right off the bottom and make it feel a bit more linear. Talked to the boys at Twisted and they feel pretty confident their setup is going to be great for me. Just waiting on the vortex to come in so I can send it to them.
Jordan do you feel the chassis is a bit twitchy or did the revalve + X-Trigs help?.. What's the offset on the X-Trigs?
It was just soft before, but I didn’t notice it deflecting a lot or a lot of head shake either when it was stock. It just dived a lot into corners and wouldn’t stay settled until I re calves and sprung it appropriately.
the clamps are 22mm offset, running 103mm sag, forks flush with the clamps.
What battery are you running? I need to replace my battery
Great job again Jordan. Jealous of the build on my brand haha. Glad your enjoying it
Stock battery. Haven't touched it yet.
Thanks, Nate. Started on Yamahas myself so BluCru has a special place in my heart as well. Let's link up at the STL SX this year. I'm planning on coming back for that.
Pit Row
I thought the plastics/layout on the Yamis have been so bad since 09 or so but these new ones look great! Sick bike my friend.
Yea, I tend to agree. I had an 07 and 08 way back when, but retired right when they got ugly lol. Looking forward to seeing that 125 of yours at Barona this Fall!
Did Enzo shorten or put the spacer in the shock ??
Nope, just new valving, spring, and reduced bladder size.
Jordan, coming out for World Vet's , you going to make it ? Also, bring your gear for St Louis Sx . We have the Yamaha demo truck with Jason Raines lined up for the day after Ride Day
This new chassis and front fender grew on me over the supercross season. I'm still torn between a YZ250 2-stroke and the new YZ450F.
But here's an idea for you: Shorten the silencer tube about 2" so its the same length as Tomac's exhaust. If they can get away with it that short, so can you.
I asked Jamie at twisted if that was a good idea along with the mapping changes and he said if anything, it’d likely be worse.
Yea I think I should be there. Let’s link up! I’ll bring my gear to STL as well. Looking forward to seeing ya!
