Dave was and is a first class motorcycle enthusiast.

RMZ819 " 300 pound defensive lineman are on a level that you will never understand" You got that right!!!!!!

How any 300 bucket of lard, who earns megabucks for rumbling around for 3 or 4 seconds at a time, can be called an athlete is really beyond me.

You don't have a clue of what it takes to be an NFL lineman, defensive or offensive. You obviously don't know the definition of elitist either. Try googling it.

I do believe our sport is a top sport. I hate it when guys like you (elitists) think it is the ONLY sport and the hardest and all the other bullshit you want to throw out there. There are all kinds of guys that ride MX that can't do shit in a ball sport. Can't catch, throw, hit, spin away from a tackle, swim through a block, field a ground ball, throw a ball to a glove, etc... Different sports take a different skill set.

The sport has peaked.

I am not talking about coverage, I am talking about participation.

It is no longer that affordable, everyman sport of the 70's and 80's.

Fourstrokes and $4k 50cc bikes are turning our sport into polo.

Now factor in a crappy economy, a screwed up legal system, and communities taking preemptive moves against tracks and IMO the chances of our sport ever getting back to what it was in the mid 90's/early 00's are pretty slim.

Another clueless one. Buckets of lard? I would bet lots of money that those buckets of lard could out run you for 40 yds and could do it more often. I would also bet you wouldn't last a week of pre-season football camp.

I think Motocoach is right, but most sports have "someone."

Tennis: Roger Federer (His current grandslam win streak records are retarded!!!)

Boxing: Ali, Tyson, Manny Pacquiao and Roy Jones Jr. (there was a time when just hitting Jones was considered a victory)

Golf: Tiger Woods, Jack before him

Baseball: Ruth, Mantle, Griffey Jr, Barry Bonds, A-rod, Randy Johnson, Nolan Ryan and Roger Clemens

Basketball: Jordan, Magic come to mind right away. One year the Bulls only lost 15-20 games out of 120+

...how dominant athletes are in other sports! I know Jimmie Johnson winning his fourth consecutive NASCAR title is a huge deal, it's a damned-impressive feat, but they are talking about him like he was the most dominant athlete in any sport, ever! Does Ricky not even get a mention? I mean, he won TEN motocross titles in a row, won every race one season, and every moto TWO seasons! I also understand that Tiger, Jordan, Ripkin, etc., are much, much more mainstream than RC, and worthy of their legendary status, but if these sports journalists are any good, they would research and report any athlete that fits the topic! With X Games and television, many people already know (or have heard of) Ricky Carmichael, and if they didn't, they'll learn about him if they have something to read on him. If you're talking about true and total domination of an athlete in his/her respective sport, my vote goes to Ricky Carmichael, hands down.
RC and MC got some PR on espn/espn2 before i am pretty sure when it comes to mentioning titles and such.

yer RC vote is biased but may be true too.

You must not know your asshole from a hole in the ground if you think a 300 pound defensive lineman that runs like the wind is in not athete. NFL players are on a level that you will never understand.

As for as Motocross riders being elite you are wrong. Certain riders are. RC,Stewart and MC but its hard for a sport to move forward when the promoters of it are ANTI RIDER SELF PROMOTION. The biggest fucking race on the planet is LL's. How fucked up is that???

IMO MX is what it is. It will never get any bigger than it is today. The way it is works just fine for the people that are running it. They fuck the riders over and the riders keep coming back for more. Until the riders tell MX Sports or who ever to f off and take a stand and stay home things will never change.

There are 100's of 1000's of guys that ride MX that wouldn't hit an 80ft triple or hit whoops wide open (Alessi comes to mind). Your point?Whistling

Now maybe what people are trying to say is the consequence level in moto is drastically higher than stick and ball sports and because of this moto guys deserve more respect.

you don't watch much football and certainly haven't played it if you don't think those guys are taking a risk. No, they aren't going quite as fast as an MXer...but, they take hits on every play. And, if you consider what a 250 pound linebacker running at full speed versus a 200 pound receiver at full speed...the net impact isn't that different than an mxer hitting the ground.

Baseball? I'm not fan, but you stand in front of a 90 mph fast ball and tell me there's no risk. Even tennis with a 110 mph tennis ball coming at you.

This arguing different sports is just dumb (IMO...for GuyCool

this same part of this video came to mind when I thought of who said they were most dominant. Also for whoever mentioned MMA can't forget Fedor Emelianenko 33-1-1 and his only loss was a doctor stoppage cause he was cut and the no contest was an accidental headbutt and he won in the rematch there, and won every other fight he was in, that's pretty good. 27 wins in a row if you don't count the No Contest.

ok then raceguy. You can keep stroking dave while all I commented on was that nascar is boring and most people that watch sit their lazy asses on the couch every sunday and grab a 12 pack and wait for some big crashes. It's just not for me and dave sold out to what the mainstream wants and it would be cool of him to start a moto show if he cared so much as you think, but do we really need a warm up show for nascar, then the actual 3 hours or however long it goes then a wind down show?? Plus then despain talking about the race that night!? Give the bikes some airtime I say.

It's not really about how fast the guy is going, as you don't have much of an argument there, plus the mx/sx riders might be getting just a bit more time in the air than the receiver and linebacker going down on grass or astroturf with underlay. Sure, you definitely take abuse in football and there are guys getting bumps and bruises but if your motor breaks off a jump like grant's did it's definitely much more dangerous than a tennis ball coming at you at 110mph. You stick to tennis and baseball being much more dangerous and i'll take sx/mx.
