Hard time feeling sorry for Titanic looky loos..

Some people have more money than sense.

This story seems like a mockumentary. Pay $250k to sit Indian style for 12 hours to get a shared glimpse of the Titanic with 4 other people through one 18" port hole. If they offered to pay me $250k to do that, I would have to seriously think about it then probably decline.

Unfortunately it is real and I feel terrible for those people. I hope the end was immediate.

That hunk of crap probably looks like a Bud Light can on the 3rd lane of I-20 right now.

I don't know, I get that it's fashionable to dehumanize the wealthy but I can pretty easily sympathize with someone sitting at the bottom of the ocean slowly running out of oxygen while you can't do anything but contemplate your impending demise in utter blackness.  Kind of hard to think of too many worse ways to go. . .

I wouldn't wish what those folks have gone through on anyone. Also, I don't think there's anything wrong with wanting to dive to see the titanic. The details of the story, and submersible are really something else though.

There are probably people out there who wouldn’t have empathy for someone killed on a dirt bike and would think that riding is extremely extravagant while there are starving people in the world too…..

I think that most would have empathy once we think of the people killed or suffering as actual humans, though.

I agree, I wouldn't get into it regardless of the safety or lack of it.

Fact is they did, and now they are in an unimaginable hell, will, at some point, be found, and the story or a portion of the story of their final hours will be known.  

Terrible story now and coming.

The butt hurt is strong with this one. Slither? I’ve never slithered in my life. Although I’ve low crawled on occasion. That’s probably a foreign concept to you though. 

A foreign concept to me would be getting banned on a MX forum multiple times and just keep coming back with a different username. 

Banging noises detected every 30 mins near the wreck site now (edit: unconfirmed), so they may be caught in wreckage and still alive. Problem is they've almost admitted now there's really not much they can physically do regardless. Best bet (given the time left) would surely be to sort of crash into it and hope it frees itself?? God knows.

This story is wild, I've heard that at those depths pretty much any break in the vessel and they would be dead immediately. I heard it's also possible that they could even be floating somewhere, but if nobody is there to open the thing up then they will still suffocate.

I can't quite understand how some apparently really smart people could put themselves in such a precarious position.  If I had $ Millions or Billions to spend and this type of adventurous spirit, I would hope I'd have the common sense to know how dangerous an endeavor going 13,000 feet underwater to see the titanic is and make sure that whatever ship I was going down on was extremely well engineered for the task.  I watched a video yesterday of the construction of this OceansGate submarine and it looked like it was built in someones garage.  I believe they were very stupid, but that aside I can't help but feel extremely sorry for the situation they are in and how terrifying it would be to basically be that far down underwater in a 21' long pop can operated by a video game controller.  I'm content watching the beautiful video of the Titanic wreck on my big screen TV, while sitting on the couch drinking a beer and confident that my commons sense will prevent me from ever being talked into a risky adventure like this. 

I saw that video too, where that guy was talking about how he got some of the parts from Lowe's or Home Depot.

The submarine looks like an utter pile of shite. What an awful way to die. 

If the integrity of the contraption was compromised it was a quick demise and they will probably never be found. Consider how long it took to find the Titanic and how big it is comparatively, I'll be surprised if they ever find it unless it is floating somewhere. I thought I had read somewhere that after 24 hours it was supposed to automatically surface. If that's the case and they haven't found it you have to assume the worst. Feel sorry for them, but they knew the risk.

If they're dead, I hope it was a instantaneous "crush" from the pressure.    Death by sitting there running out of 02 in a tube like that....the stuff nightmares are made of. 

Plow, you've got a lot of controversial opinions lately. I find it hard to understand how anyone could not have empathy for them. No matter why they are there, that has to be one of the worst things a person could live through leading to their own death. Not to mention your son that you brought with and will likely die as well.

Sorry buddy, this is just tragic any way you look at it.

A tragedy perhaps … but it is a tragedy of their own making . There is absolutely zero need for anyone to go down there , it was a choice . 

I have a couple of opinions on this, strangely one is a conspiracy theory. Lots of people opine that the Titanic was sunk in order for the Federal Reserve to be adopted. I wonder what the billionaires on board were into. 

Second and it's more of a moral question. There is a father and son on board and there is only so much oxygen available. At what point as a father do you take your own life in order to preserve oxygen to potentially save your son? If you are any other passenger do you sacrifice yourself for the chance that others who aren't your blood live? I know there are some older guys aboard, I know one is almost 80 years old. If not to save others, when the situation turned bleak would you want to control the manner of your demise? Although it wouldn't be painful to die running out of oxygen the mental anguish would be pretty heavy. 

If you go into a vessel like that how prepared are you for something bad? Do you bring something to help you end it? Do you bring a notepad to write out your last thoughts so your family can have some closure? My one great fear of dying is leaving things unsaid. I'm a guy so I throw "I Love You's" around like they are manhole covers. 

Yea it's a sad ordeal for sure  But they had to know what they were getting into.

I saw somewhere the waiver form was extensive and on one page it said death could happen THREE FREAKING TIMES!!!! 😳 

 If that alone doesn't say you're getting into a death trap and you still get in you obviously have more money than brains.

Only if it imploded which is unlikely. It looks like the only quality workmanship on the vessel was the actual tube. 

If it did implode, they had zero warning and felt nothing.
