Pretty cool how FMF offer the same quality for top Pros and Plebs alike

Check out the FMF expansion chamber on Billy Bolts new TE300i race bike.

I doubt that weld had anything to do with FMF.

Oh yeah who is responsible then?

"Like most pioneering inventors, Big D built his performance exhausts with a sense of purpose. From day one…always striving for perfection. FMF is ALWAYS INNOVATING.

50 years later the song remains the same. FMF still engineers and builds everything by hand, from the ground up in the USA. As long as you dream of flying higher and going faster, we will continue to innovate and build things the right way…THE AMERICAN WAY."

It's such a goofy thing to sit around and look at how pretty welds are on production parts. Dude, does it have sufficient penetration and coverage? Move on.

In defense of anyone who has spent any length of time welding, if you saw that picture, that weld would be almost impossible to miss.

Without any intention of looking for it, it would be one of the first things quite a few of us OCD weirdos saw 👍

Fmf tee shirts are better quality than their pipes, and I've bought plenty of both.

Billy's pipe is going to look a lot worse than that within an hour of hard enduro at Xross in Serbia this week....just sayin'...lol.  Those guys could care less about that, as they go through a pipe every single day in world hard enduro events....BB Pipe.png?VersionId=K Fzx8

They probably sell the pipes that don't pass QA to the off-road guys for half price lol

I'm sure Bolt was very concerned about subpar welds on his FMF lol. I've never had any issues with FMF exhaust in the 25+ years I've been using them but again, I'm not that f'n anal about what their welds look like as long as the performance is there and the parts hold up.

I had to bend the end of the mid pipe on a brand new 4.1 to get it to fit with the silencer. It came egg shaped straight out of the box. Pretty nuts for a thousand dollar exhaust system.

Pretty sure FMF steel pipes are oxy acetylene welded not mig. Oxy acetylene welds are not pretty but I bet that weld seam is perfectly penetrated and sealed.

Made in America by illegal aliens?

Made in America doesn't mean what it used to.

Same thing when you see made in Italy. Lots of labor shipped in to trade on their heritage at cut rate

With the finish on that pipe being for aesthetic purposes, I'd hope the weld is at least not visibly shitty.

I’m on my second factory fatty on my 300sx with 4 hours on the clock. The first one leaked from the weld at that same bubble gum welded seam.

same thing happened on a 17 250sx I had back then

Question for the guys who post something along the lines of "I've had issues with X number of FMF pipes since 2015...."

Why do you keep buying FMF then?

Guy right above me literally says he's on his second Fatty and had issues 6 years ago. If I have issues with a product like that, I'm changing companies. Just wondering out loud...

I've stopped buying aftermarket pipes, oem just fit properly.   If your 125 isn't fast enough, buy a 250.

Different brand pipes and silencers have different power characteristics. When I find the combination I'm looking for on a particular bike I tend to stick with it, warts and all.

I wonder if they respond if Billy emails them, I could never get a response or a call back when I had exhaust questions.

For me FMF can kindly eat a frankfurter.

Yeah I can appreciate that, but that also means you're probably not the guy to create a post about it either.

I just purchased a raw fmf fatty for my 06cr125 I just built. That pipe or silencer is clean and smooth with no booger welds

I think this is the issue, it's a QC problem not necessarily a widespread issue. Just order and hope you don't get a Friday 4:30pm weld?

Exactly, I saw the post because I follow Billy and as a welder when I scroll through the photos and see that abomination it stands out.

Also, I ride a husky TE300 and I dig the overall look of this bike especially with a works pipe, but welds like that ruin it for me.

Do you guys ever ride your motorcycles?? If you're going to get "ruined" because of a weld then how are you going to deal with dents and scraps after actually riding?

Yeah you guys called it, I'm a union rat making below minimum wage and that why I want "factory finish" pipes to have better welds than this.
