I think Webb knows talking smack about Tomac would probably have the reverse effect of what he wanted.

Absolutely. The mind games don’t work on Tomac.

One of the more interesting things I took away from the interview was how Webb said what he did about playing other sports. When I played football (all the way thru HS) it was constant shit talking, mean etc to get in your opponents head.

I always found it puzzling how moto fans get up in arms about the trash talk/competitive nature of guys like Webb. I'm like, have these dudes ever played other sports?

I'm about a third of the way through this podcast. I've been somewhat neutral on Webb over the years but so far its really hard not to root for the guy after hearing his story.

Went to public school until he was 16, played stick and ball sports, got bullied in school for being small, was turned down by all the factories when he was younger. Surely this guy is much more relatable to the average moto fan than the kids that grow up on a compound being home schooled and pampered by the factories their entire lives?

I hung around Cooper quite a bit when he was 9 to 10 years old and he has was a super respectful, nice and polite kid. I think he wanted to bring a bit of Bradshaw image when he came into the pro ranks. It's actually smart- creating a personality. He's also a lot smarter than most people realize.

Did he really say he was turned down by all the factories? lol. The heir to Barcia's throne as Honda's golden boy, star of the "Honda CRF150 Cup" where he was showcased to the entire industry at the nationals, and then on to Star Yamaha when he moved up to big bikes. He got more factory attention at a younger age than guys like Dungey and RV.

I'm indifferent on Webb but he is similar to Baker Mayfield in that he always seems to be looking to manufacture a chip for his shoulder. More so when he was younger than now.

Webb had a few 150's with Red Bull graphics and a shitty Winnebago.

Star wasn't the place to be when he signed with them. They were still the bottom-of-the-barrel factory-level 250 program at that time, and that's not meant to be a dig. He signed with them while still on the carbureted platform. He actually started riding for them in the winter of 2011...the backward cylinder monster didn't come until the winter of 20213. Geico Honda chose to go with Zach Bell at the time that Cooper ended up going to Star.

He was always in AC's shadow and had way less support. And yeah, what ML said.

Always had respect for him, but never really a fan. After this podcast we now have a new perception. You can say what you want about GypsyTales, but he brings a whole new vibe to our industry with JRE’ kinda interviews. And the riders seem to like him. Lovely podcast, enjoyed every minute of it. Also around the 1h30 min mark they were talking about setting up lifegoals and believing in yourself. Hopefully Webb inspired some up and coming riders greatly with his perspective on life. Also didnt know he became such good friends with Herlings too!

Great interview. As I have said a couple times now, I have really come around to Jace's interviews, in general lately. But being a big Webb fan, I thought this was a great interview. He just is a straight shooter and I like his attitude. He worked hard and even to this day, has an outlook that I admire. And he even admits when something is his fault or doesn't work. He basically admitted that Tomac clowned him when he tried to play head games with him. And I don't think Webb tries to act like he is better than he is. You could tell that he has a lot of respect for Tomac and knows that he is probably the fastest guy of this era. But he still won't back down from him. I think if there are some people who are not Webb fans, it maty change their mind, if they have the time to listen.

Star wasn't the juggernaut they are now but the key personnel, the factory deal, and the Rockstar sponsorship were all in place. They signed Jeremy Martin the year before Webb and that really started their run of success. No doubt Amsoil Honda was the most prized amateur ride at that time, but Star was right there with the other "factory" amateur programs.

In 2012 it was Bisceglia that Amsoil Honda had in the B class racing against Webb. Zach Bell was in the A class, won the Horizon Award that year. Bisceglia won it in 2013.

He talked about the one time he did in Utah 2020. Something to the tune of, “hey mother fucker, ready for a battle?” Said Eli looked over at him then looked straight again without saying a word. Eli started last, Coop got in the lead early and Eli caught him by the end. Coop never messed with Eli again after that.

Things get really messy right the as they merged with Valli for a year then it collapsed. Jeremy Martin was also someone who got pushed aside and didn't have a home.

Anyone would've taken Amsoil/Geico Honda, Team Green/PC, or a KTM based spot at that point over going to Star. Star stepped up to go after Martin and Webb, it was a perfect storm where both were somewhat overlooked and Star wanted to make it happen.

Stars success didn’t start till Glen Helen 2014. J Mart and Coop were not top talent to sign. Star was not the team you wanted to go to either. Until GH 2014. You’ve got your timeline all wrong.

How do people not understand he has to do this to get the guests to open up like they do?

If it was a standard pulpmx ask questions type interview it would be the most awkward 3hrs ever.
