So, what's up with Ando?

This just goes to show that these guys are all human and they are much more emotionally invested when they are in a title fight.  He needs a 1 year extension or a 1 year deal until he signs with Bobby Hewitt and Triumph in 25

Anderson might want to get the king's opinion prior to signing on to race/develop a new bike in the twilight of his career.

I think Broc might have the answers to that…

Doesn't Ando live by the beach in SoCal?

He just puts off a stoner vibe IMO.

If you're referring to Tickle, coming on as a test rider for an established OEM is a whole different game than trying to race and develop an all new bike for an new-to-offroad OEM while competing at the highest levels of Supercross.  That is more akin to what Jeremy attempted with KTM at the end of his career.

I might be wrong but I thought I heard he needed a procedure done before the start of the season.  Maybe that set back his pre-season work a little bit?  I could be totally wrong though.  Possible big change in family life could be something to do with it as well.  Who knows but him?

Eh, more often than not he's a little off the pace of the top 2 or 3 guys at any given round. Couple that with mostly mediocre starts and he's struggling to place top 5. He simply isn't quite as fast as he was last season, and Sexton, Webb, Barcia, and Roczen are all better than they were last year as well. He would've had to either stay as fast, or get faster, to win multiple races and be a podium guy again.

Good point.

My intent was to be,forgetting the top 3,sitting 6th,5 points behind roczen and bambam who've won and podiumed it ain't that bad having crashed multiple times this year.

You know how the championship guys seem to continue improving throughout the whole season? I think this is a case of Anderson being out of it, I'm not saying he's just doing the laps to finish off the championship, but maybe he hasn't elevated to that same level as Tomac, Webb and sexton. He is right there though, and a good night I think we can still see a win before the end of the season. This theory isn't 100% airtight however, with Barcia being an outlier, 0 wins but really coming into form towards the end of the season.

He's on probation with the AMA, right?

What got him there might be a big part of the problem. Just a guess.

Doesn’t he have a kid on the way? That could be on his mind

maybe he’s already got his triumph deal signed so he could just be collecting a check at this point

New wife after a very brief courtship, kid on the way, falling out with the Team Fried crew (they’re still cool with each other but losing close friends is hard), run-ins with Barcia etc. He seems to be focused on other things, not winning a championship. Kawi will probably pick him up again for another season and I’m sure Bobby Hewitt already has a bug in his ear to join Triumph in 2025 once they start a 450 program. At one point I really thought the Team Fried thing would have been his cash cow after he retires but without the core crew and his current lack of results, I just hope he can turn it around at this point. It’s going to be a long summer for team Kawi.

Can anyone give me the tldr of what happened between anderson and team fried? Im out of the loop.

I can't buy into this narrative for Anderson.

You don't win 7 races last year and 0 the next and toss it up to being 12 months older. He went 4 years without winning a race after his title only to have his best season ever, being 4 years older.

He's just in a slump. I think Tomac, Webb, Sexton are also just really really good this year.

Your body reaches it's physical and mental prime at 30.

"Your body reaches it's physical and mental prime at 30."

If that is the case, then why have so few riders won a race after turning 30?

Because in motocross most guys didn't race at 30. What I stated is a fact, not an opinion. Just look it up, and refer to all other sports other than MX.

Cool stats here: https://www.bbc.com/future/article/20150525-whats-the-prime-of-your-life

"So what are we to take away from these findings? Crudely speaking, you may conclude that you are at your sexual peak in your 20s, your physical peak in your 30s, your mental peak in your 40s and 50s and at your happiest in your 60s "

Then why do motocross racers usually retire before 30?

My theory is the injuries sustained are generally far more severe and far more common than most other sports.  So they have a larger impact on the ability to perform at peak performance.

Realistically, they just used to retire too early. Even RC, RD have said it. There was no reason to retire at 26. A lot just get burned out. Look at RV.

Yea those guys were mentally burned out not physically. Rv says now that he wishes he had switched brands like eli so he could have raced 2-3 more years after getting a fresh start.

Do we really think the physical peak for an athlete who has recovered from multiple reconstructive surgeries (like most of these dudes) is at the same age as the average Joe?

I can tell you for sure that my physical peak was definitely back at some point when I had my own ACLs.

You really think Ken Roczen's best athletic years are yet to come since he is only 28?

There is a post on here about it and Tom posted about it on his socials. Not too many details but I’d imagine Team Fried living with Ando and then he gets married + starting a family probably was the catalyst for the split. Some young kids are running it now and imho, they’ve lost the look and feel of the brand.

You are choosing the outliers. Each sport has guys who had career ending or affecting injuries. The majority of guys retiring at 26 had healthy careers. It was just burnout.

The average champ has had typical sports injuries and nothing career altering. Like most sports. These don’t affect bodies peak performance post recovery.

I can't think of a single top 10 450 rider who hasn't had reconstructive surgery.

These aren't career ending (anymore), but they are certainly athletic peak altering.

I’ve had 3 knee reco’s. It doesn’t affect your physical prime if you didn’t have complications. Most guys in the NFL, NHL, MMA, etc etc have gone through reco’s. That’s not career altering.

It certainly is. They can prolong their career, but their athletic peak will not be after 30 like that article said it was for the average Joe. It already occurred at some point prior to the injury.

Fortunately, many athletes have the skills to continue beyond their athletic peak, and the medical care necessary to prolong their career past it.

Nah man that’s literally not how it works. Lungs, heart, brain, etc development aren’t altered due to a knee injury lol. Knee’s heal while things develop.   Bones densify  etc

once again, RD, RC, RV all said they retired too early

Lungs, heart, and brain can't make a hard cut on astroturf

Those guys may have retired too early, and been capable of more championships, but not because their athletic peak was in front of them.

Motocross isn’t a cutting sport. Brain, heart, lungs, reaction times are the most important things. We don’t cut on turf. And in those sports, most guys have gone through reco’s and play well into their 30’s. Bad example.

I'm not arguing that skilled athletes can't perform at a high level past their athletic peak. They clearly can. I am just saying that the athletic peak is not in their 30s for athletes in high wear and high injury professional sports.

And the proof is clearly evident just by looking at the average length of career.

And the proof is clearly evident just by looking at the average length of career.

So does MMA not qualify as that? Because in the UFC guys fight until their 40’s. Glover was the champ in his 40’s. Most guys hit their peak at 35+.

You keep saying past their athletic peak but that’s scientifically not true. That’s judged by lung capacity, reaction times, bone density, heart rate, etc etc. not prior injuries.

Combat sports have the benefit of huge gaps in time between events, so recovery (the primary issue of both age and injury) is not as major a factor as in other sports.

Nah man. The damage they suffer in 1 event is that of an MX rider in their entire career.

People aren’t retiring in MX due to being past prime.

top guys suffer from burn out. Guys a tick off retire because they lose their rides and investment in your own program doesn’t typically yield a return.
