This is now probably my favorite VitalMX quote 😂
Pretty ironic that Keefer is at Glen Helen posting about this being that the only time this has happened to me it was at Glen Helen by Keefer. I remember it specifically because he did it in a 180 corner, I brake checked him next 90 corner. Then he passed me, scrubbed the roller before the finish looking back at me and almost touched tires with the 85 rider ahead of us. I thought it was pretty out of line.
Thanks for your corporation 👌
He right. Even for the woods. Unless you got a horn. Then again, its the same.

But you have to remember you're dealing with a kid in the situation. Maybe cooler heads prevail and a calm conversation with him afterward with some advice would have fixed the problem. My 12yo 85 rider can hold his own with the big bikes and one of the first things he ever learned is how to hold his line.
We have been on the other side where my son was riding with C practice and wanted to get by a YZ250 with big ego adult riding it. The guy thought they were in a race evidently and kept coming over on my kid every time he tried to pass. My son finally cut so far to the inside of a turn he literally was off the track and YZ Ego King was so offended that he tried to punt my kid next corner. I watched the whole thing and luckily my son checked out on him and didn't have to worry about the pompous A-hole after that. When hero rode off after practice, he looked over at our pit but never stopped. I would have gladly listened to any complaint he may have had about an 85 rider waxing his ass in practice. IMO, practice is just that. A place to polish skills, learn new lines and learning how to pass.
Imo.. minis should never be out on the same track as big bikes… I know there are kids that can flat out haul ass on minis but, just break up the practice sessions…
Ok so tell me if I’m wrong here..
a “get out of the way” rev is not ok on a practice day..
I’m practicing, you are practicing, if you are faster, it doesn’t mean shit.. it’s not a race.
The whole point of practice days, ride days, saturdays.. whatever, is that anyone can ride.
if you are faster than me, figure out a way around me.
Practice day hero”s are real…the stakes are high for chest puffers
OMG. I highly doubt that was me. Now, on the other hand that could have been my kid and if I would have seen this he would have got a talking to. He knows better on a practice day. Me on the other hand, I don't scrub past minis. But if it was my kid, I will apologize for him here.
It's much easier for the slower rider to take a outside line and let the other guy by.
This was a few years back and you were on a #165 KTM 450 factory edition at the time…I’m pretty sure it was you. Not expecting an apology, just calling out the irony of the video
I don't see the big deal either way. I rev'd my bike in a corner after someone cross jumped me 6 times in a row. Then I ultimately took a Barcia corner, rode wide open across the inside of the turn, to the exit then squared up at his front wheel.
There are plenty of 85 riders who have no issues with big bikes in practice. If you broke up every practice into every group then you would only get possibly 2 practices each which would suck since the riders would be sitting around forever waiting on their next practice session.
As a parent it is my responsibility to not only teach my kid the ins & outs of track rules but to also know when he should be good to go out with certain groups. If there is a 65-85 combined practice with a lot of younger kids learning and not riding in the most stable manner then we may switch to C practice if the track officials give the ok. My son refuses to go out with D class unless it's mixed in with C because he says the newbie adults are more all over the place than the newbie mini riders lol.
Keefer is on point here. It’s not about the faster guy being a dick, he’s letting you know he will be passing you. It’s safer for both of you if you realize that before you cross over on him. If someone is being a dick…….take care of it off the track.
Haha I got rev- bombed by you last year at GH, you were on a CRF 250 I think…
😝
Someone at FXR has to put a butt patch on his britches that reads "Rev Bomb." Hahahaha
…I’m just kidding, both Kris and Aden are very polite on practice days, and I was going slow AF and holding him up as the times show…
🍪🍪🍪here you go!
Pit Row
Some of the stories I’ve read in this thread are unbelievable, literally. Threatening to stab a kid in the eye with a screwdriver…really? I think some of you have friends who aren’t calling you out for this lying BS when you start spewing it and you now believe it is okay to lie like none other to anyone you come across lol!
Edit: Also Kris Keefer cut the Talladega turn once at GH and bee-lined straight for the other side of the track so he could take me out resulting in: both femurs being broken, both wrist and arms, six of my fingers, both feet, left ankle, right shoulder, blew out both of my knees and then pulled into my pit and punched my baby brother in the face all because I wouldn’t move out of his way in the practice before.
That escalated quickly!
Agreed.
when riding road bicycles whether racing or just training, there are no engines to Rev, so a simple, “I’m on your left” is called.
In racing you can use your elbow to tap their thigh when it gets really close.
this doesn’t mean ‘get out of my way I’m coming through’ it means politely‘don’t squeeze me or we’ll both likely crash’.
a little engine Rev in Moto is the same, isn’t it?
I’ve been riding and racing since 89. When I was at my fastest in 95-99 I always went around riders I was clearly faster than no problems I remember being a beginner and what it felt like to have my doors blown off now at 48 and a 6 year lay off after a knee replacement I went riding for the first time. I still remember how to ride picked up where I left off a few seconds slower but vet intermediate speed. I still go around slower riders I wait until I have a clean pass. But it’s always the same as when I left off when you’re kinda fast there is always Johnny go fast the kid who needs to prove he’s the faster rider at the track waits for my 40 year ass to come around pass me scrub and roost me. I don’t freak out. I don’t fight in the pits threatening people. I know I’ll see him down sooner or later and wouldn’t you know it mr Bubba wanna be us down hard from a scrub gone wrong. I stop and ask you ok? Point is you can’t win practice. If Johnny go fast passes you so what ? As long as he doesn’t take you out. Or your kid out. If he does then he’s gonna have a problem. Not in the pits. On the track. I can wait for Johnny go fast to get tired then I hop in right behind him set up a perfect front wheel take out. Don’t ever do it in pits. These no assault charges for take outs. Some of you guys need to grow up the guy with the screwdriver needs to remember everything is recorded by cell phones these days. Something this 90s glory days rider needs to remember be safe out there guys
Typical Vital BS.. Tough guys behind keyboard. Can't stick to the topic at hand. It all turns into he said, she said bla bla bla. No one cares about all your overblown situations. The video was on point and take it for what it is. Kris Keefer is one of the most professional and helpful people in our sport. Anyone who says otherwise on a public forum is a dirt bag.
My son's friend was new to riding and bought a new 250f. We convinced him to go to a track with us as he had more than enough speed at this point to be there and not be a danger to himself or anyone else. So, on his first day, an 18-20 year old(ish) fast kid intentionally took out his front wheel in a higher speed sweeper. He tumbled hard, had road rash, bruises etc. (He went way wide to let the faster guy by too) When I found out about it and while my son was helping him off the track etc. I was enraged and went looking for the punk, and my intentions were not to "talk" about it either. Thankfully, people that did not even know us saw it happen too and beat me to it. The punk was packing up his bike and (very fearfully) apologizing while they were still pointing fingers yelling and threatening him. Real moto people stand up for new and slower riders when warranted.
