When they are paid $21 and hour and can't get it right and then they stand there and roll their eyes when you point it out? Yes. it bothers me.
In many parts of the country firefighters and EMT/Paramedics are paid less than that. Do you expect them to get it right? The least a pizza flipper could do is not roll their eyes at you because they can't get it right.
Have you ever seen Oprah? That's how the economy should work. Just free stuff for everyone lmao.

Yes, if you haven’t been “To The Big City” for a sporting event in a while, it can be a culture shock of sorts.
Believe it or not, your $45 Cocktails & Popcorn bill isn’t the worst I’ve seen or heard; but, that doesn’t change the fact that people experience a real “WTF?!” when they go to one of these events and get that concessions bill for the 1st time.
I’ve seen $18-20 beers, $40 cocktails and insane prices for mediocre burgers & pizzas in stadiums this year.
This year’s stadiums, so far, have been Anaheim/Angel’s Stadium, San Diego/Snap Dragon and Oakland. What struck me about Oakland was that it wasn’t that long ago that it was one of the more “affordable” stadiums on the tour; but, this year…? It was Ridonkulously Expensive and let’s be very clear about something…it IS NOT in a nice area.
So, while others may disagree or throw shade at your post? The bottom line is this…
You’ve got a valid point.
Seattle Supercross was a fantastic event to attend.
Racing was great, stands were full, looking forward to Glendale!
I went as well. It was cold af but had a great time. Vibes were good.
Not upset at all. Just saying that if a pizza maker is making $21.00 , then a box boy / store clerk on the job for 6 months should be making $30.00/hr compared to the pizza guy. Way harder work , lot more to it......but we are speaking of jobs kids get while in highschool. Store clerks and people that pump gas make minimum wage.....so hell no , the damn pizza guy should not be getting $21.00/hr!
You obviously don't see what the overall big picture here is. If everyone doubled their pay..... everything else sooner or later will cost twice as much. ( By the way it's going , that won't be to long from now ). BTW..... I'm referring to a person that's been on the job for 6 months to a year or two. Every pizza shop is different. I'm talking about a regular Dominos or an SX event booth.
If it makes you feel any better I took my grandson to see the Jurassic World Live thing that Feld has.
Tickets for myself, my wife and my grandson came to just under $500. Bought a soda, water and popcorn for $35, parking $30 and a stuffed dino for $30 (what can I say, I can't say no to a 6 year old).
It wouldnt cost twice as much, it would cost much more than double. Prices are set in various ways but the multiplication and scaling starts down low. If mcdonalds raises pay by $4, they're going to look to recoup at least 7-10 dollars. I really dont want to be economic or political but that's why things are so insane right now, but your wages may have only upped a dollar or two.
Bottom line is, in America, all financial managers and executives are trained to follow ONE business model with ONE approach considered "successful": Increasing shareholder wealth. Nothing will change until that changes, and it's not gonna anytime soon. At least not on a international scale.
It's nobodies fault but your own that you have made the decision to not have any skills beyond flipping a burger.
$7/hour is all that position is worth. Want to make more..... do something to provide more value to society.
*I was part owner of 5 restaurants for a number of years, I have seen first hand how lazy, un-loyal and un-reliable most folks who work in this sector are.*
I worked at a pizza place while in high school. I do agree that $21/hr is freakin insane (I got paid $8.56/hr in the 2010s). I will say though, on Friday and Saturday nights, that shit was surprisingly stressful. Was probably due more to lackluster scheduling than actual difficulty, but my office job that I have now makes my old pizza job feel like I was fighting in Vietnam.
Totally being honest here.....I run my own little remodel/ drywall business and for the most part I stay pretty busy. And after 32 years of it.....I thought about getting a low hour part time job at a pizza place just for fun , and just to do something else , meet new people. I don't need the money , I'd only do it for fun. Might sound funny to some....but I'd like to make some pizzas on the side haha.
Light rail is definitely the way to go downtown these days. I can't wait for the Bellevue extension to get done. If we visit my son in the U District, we almost never drive downtown but take rail instead.
Seattle should have invested in that years ago. They had a chance to get a fully funded system back in the 70s but rejected it and the fed money went for the MARTA system in Atlanta instead. By now Seattle should have had a huge network of light rail built up over the last 50 years, but they blew it.
They might deserve it. But then don't expect a 20-30% tip. And maybe do the job correctly and not half assed. The tip, helped offset low wages. Now in at least Ca. Wages aren't that low but they tack on mandatory gratuity, or shame people for not tipping.
Just explaining another reason why stuff is so expensive.
I know waiters that make more than engineers. Wild times lol.
Also went to Seattle. Parked 5-10 minute walk away was $23 on SpotHero. Naturally prices in the stadium for food and drive are nuts.
Great night of racing, no rain!
Pit Row
My local places in OC & up in Redding are still pretty damn reasonable & service is epic…so…we tip well at these places.
With the new minimum living wage combined with shitty/shifty service is obviously not working in my favor…I tip like a cheap old fart on a discount travel tour
A note-worthy positive point: places that I “frequent” and more notably the ones that I still go to and went to during these last 3 years of insanity…from Cabo to around the south-land & up the road to Mammoth & on to far Nor-Cal…all seem to deliver a stellar value for my money.
From the Casa Dorada in Cabo, The Point in Dana Point, The Mt. Whitney Restaurant in Lone Pine, Creekside Lodge/Cutthroat Brewing in Markleville, Liberty Sports Bar & Grill at Mammoth, Nicely’s Cafe in Lee Vining, Market St Blade & Barrel in Redding…all…great examples of how to be unaffected by the insanity and just keep “doing it right”. Haven’t noticed any of them being as grossly affected as most other businesses in their fields seem to be & ALL of them have had their asses handed to them from all this wage craziness.
I have thought about this too, get a job just to keep me busy. State of Washington has pretty much sealed the demise of the asparagus industry in the state with the high minimum wage and overtime law.
Stadiums compensating for lost revenue being shut down through Covid with of course record high inflation for good measure. Good times.
Thank you. Yes, I was a bit sticker shocked. I'm not saying I'll never go again, I'm just saying that if I do, I will be better prepared thanks in part to some of the suggestions in this thread. But I'm also content to watch the races from home since that's not a bad gig either.

One thing is for sure. I did not anticipate this thread turning into a debate about minimum wage.
Actually it's not "bingo", because they're getting paid exactly what the market is demanding. Just because a politician decided that minimum wage is $7/hr doesn't mean that's what people have to make, it's a free market out there and right now lower wage workers are in demand and getting paid accordingly (aka wages are just starting to regain some traction after decades of falling behind asset prices). You guys can scream about how "unfair" it is all you want but that's reality, you're more than welcome to take that job and demand a lower salary to try to drive the average down if you're so inclined. . .
Depends on how good the pizza is and how bad the firefighter is…
If the business owner feels paying a higher wage is in their best interest for their business then so be it.
Its their business to run as they see fit.
I believe that’s the whole idea of a free market system.
While I think it’s insane what some people think they should be paid for a low skilled menial job I don’t think the best thing to do is compare it to someone who is underpaid for what they do. The only natural response to what you’re saying is that we need to pay firefighters more.
Hate to say it, but it’s the cost of going to a race. People blow money on many things but complain about others. It’s just the way it is.
Do you not see the irony (or at least the hypocrisy) of telling someone not to complain about the prices at an event and insinuating that they spend their remaining money frivolously, and then in the next breath complaining that someone is paid more than you think they should be? It's either a free market or it isn't you can't have it both ways.
