Fantic and Beta were making dirtbikes before the big 4 Japanese mfgs.
Like I said earlier. All these "new" European manufacturers have been making motorbikes for 100 years.
The big 4 in Japan have owned their market for 100 years. There may be a couple other manufacturers that specialise in scooters. But there is literally no other Japanese manufacturer making off road bikes.
Where in Europe there is quite a few dirt bike manufacturers. Some even making mx bikes. That are now joining the racing sport. They are not new companies.

Honda didn’t start until after WWII, using surplus military engines to clip onto bikes.
Suzuki didn’t enter two wheeled manufacturing until the 1950s with clip on bicycle engines.

I’ve been thinking about this. If you can invest one billion, you can afford to lose millions if, long term you expect to succeed. If you can invest billions, then even more so.
What it comes down to is the return timeline, how long are they willing to wait for the return.
This comment is based on a private pilot that I met who flew “billionaires” around. He claimed their investments/ projects were out of range of millionaires and they laughed at millionaires.
Yup tied on a stick. Taste as smooth as a peeled onion.
