I use a Troy Lee Rockfight, and have been really happy with it. It’s light, breathes alright, and I have no problem moving around with it.
Alpinestars A-1 is the lowest profile one you can get. Most all of the pro's wear it. Beware, there's not a lot of back protection with it though. The new Thor Sentinel looks similar in profile with a slightly larger back plate and might be worth a try.

Hey mate, do the shoulder pads on the A4 offer any real protection or are they just a comfort padding?
Only Band-Aid brand for me. Not sure about the weight but the adhesion never lets me down.

Leatt Chest Protector 4.5
I've got the Fly roost guard, it's been good.
I have one and love it.
+1 for the TLD Rockflight. Checks all the boxes for a minimalistic protector. Got the lil guy in one too. Pretty much my highest endorsement when I put the kid in something
Oneal split chest pro is an under or over and fits good.
I'm running the A4-Max also. The shoulder "pads" if you could even call them that, are minimal roost protection.
Fly racing's New revel lite chest protector is pretty good. Just had my first ride in it, couldn't even notice it there.
A4 Max is what I run. It works for *light* body slams and slides on the ground. And of course roost. Any real hard hits you will feel, just the edge taken off lol. I thank myself everytime I wear it Washougal. Jesus that place hurts so bad.
Yup. 100% agree. To add to this I took a good slam right to the chest last season with it. I hit so hard it imprinted the pattern of it into my chest for a week. I got the wind knocked out of me but was ok. I will say I felt more restricted in my fox raptor but I would trust that way more than the A-4, especially in the rib area. Such a shitty trade off - comfort riding vs protection.
Sounds like it did its job! I broke my sternum on the bars once. Not fun. Not terrible, but would prefer not to do it again.
I haven't been wearing one but after 4 less than ideal performances over the weekend where I was eating roost more than usual I'm going to try riding with one again..
My son wears the TLD rockfight and it looks comfy but I am torn between that and the A-1. I like having the option of just using back straps on the TLD. The back on the A-1 looks substantially longer than the front where the TLD they are about the same. Does anyone know if the front is shorter on the A-1 compared to the TLD or is the back longer?
