Exactly and nobody really gave a fuck. But they didn’t say you couldn’t question them about it.

Is there media to censor?

Yes.

And this publication is one of it's key censors.

Until they get to big bikes its a sorta sideshow. 250 class is boring right now.

Also press conferences are for boomers. Sorry i said it.

I say this all the time to one of our contacts at Feld. We have little to no power, riders and teams aren’t really required to do media time unlike other sports. Hell, we had a round of outdoors last year where there was no 250 press conference cause the riders decided to leave early. I’ve pushed as much as I can lately and it results in push back. I can only get banned from so many trucks and pit areas before I run out of work. Laughing

I don't disagree with that.  Even ML is dancing around it here and on one of his reviews said he wasn't allowed in one of the trucks currently for whatever reason.  I can't remember what team, but that seemed strange.

HEP is the truck I'm not allowed inside their pit area any further. Due to commenting on their recent suspension tech hire and Kenny switching back off FC.

Firepower Honda is also a grey area. I ran a photo of some parts in Pit Bits that caused a sponsor issue.

If HEP & Firepower and any of their team sponsors are reading this, I want them to know on the basis of what ML just said, I won’t be sharing any more HEP or Firepower social media posts until he’s reinstated.

if this entire forum does the same this will have an impact on the number of eyes on the sponsors.

Do you see how this works, HEP, Firepower??

Tyler, I am a boomer, had no choice in the matter. I did watch my first press conference this week in search of the Holy Kick Starter bit.

Seems kind of weak to insult a generation who helped create the sport you reportedly enjoy.

Now, get off my lawn!

Poor HEP. First they have to ride Suzukis and now vital members are boycotting them!!

Are you thinking of this note from Observations:

Hunter’s team around him was pretty irritated with Feld Motor Sports promoting the hard pass Hunter did on Nate Thrasher last week, which left Thrasher on the ground. It wasn’t dirty but it was certainly aggressive and earned both Honda HRC and Monster Energy Yamaha Star Racing a talking-to from the AMA. That’s all whatever but the PR [Public Relations] at Feld asked the media to not ask Hunter about the pass last week in the press conference.

yeah. I interpreted that as "HRC was butthurt and threw a fit so Feld told reporters to knock it off".

"Hunters team around him" likely meaning Mirtl and his Dad.

You should become a moto reporter, Darkside made it.

"Hunter's team around him" is a reference to his personal team (agent/family/etc.), not his employer. His agent has Feld's ear.

okay. i'm sure you're right. honestly, it makes the whole thing even MORE stupid as now a single agent is controlling the moto-media population. Our sport is so weird sometimes. oh well. on to Detroit!

genuine question for ML and the other media guys:
this week ET3 rolled around in 8th, which is a pretty big story. We got some weak Yam PR about "We had a tough week" and that's it.

Is it impossible to get a real comment from him? Does he just stonewall you and say "I ain't talking about it"? Can you not even just text him for a few words? It's just an example of the strangeness of the moto-media in our sport. If Michael Jordan scored 7 points in a game, the media would be all over it talking about it nonstop and getting actual responses from MJ. But instead ET3 just goes back on his bus, lets the Yam PR speak for him.....and that's it??

I wasn’t present this week so I can’t say for sure, but if a rider is outside the top three they aren’t required to press conference. So it’s up to them if they want do interviews. Eli will basically always do an interview, if you can find him. Some weeks he goes straight to his motorhome though, so he’s hard to access.

We get denied interviews all the time depending how a guy’s night went. This year alone, I think I’ve had at least half the 450 field turn me down at some point or another.

thanks for responding.

but when ET podiums this week, you can start your questions with: Man, what the hell happened last week and why is tonight different? (thus getting him to address the question we'd all like answered)

It’s pretty easy to figure out. He didn’t bring any intensity, didn’t feel like stepping it up. Why should I risk my career for 1 race. I had a mental problem getting my intensity to the level of the other riders.  I thought it was a better idea to ride at 65%.  If it was basketball the coach would get ripped open for not getting the team or having a player go threw the motions instead of bringing a high intensity. In Mx it’s ok for riders to cruise around get the night over with. Blame it on setup & not being comfortable. Basically he didn’t do his job because he didn’t feel like doing it.  It’s not like Yamaha can bench him for 2 races & bring in a sub.   So the rider has control . They know it

Well Matthes doesn't even say that.. Hunter's team around him were irritated about them promoting the hard pass, then Feld PR asked the reporters not to ask about it..

What I think happened is Hunter's team said we get a talking to from the AMA about aggressive racing then you guys promote said aggressive racing, so where are we supposed to stand on aggressive racing? So Feld obviously decided to not promote aggressive riding by making it taboo and prompting a 6 page thread on Vital haha

I wouldn't give him the credit for getting those guys on HRC...Honda chose to restart their 250 program because Geico folded....to give Mirtl credit for that is a little stretch...but I never said he wasn't good at his job I just said he thinks he's bigger than the sport and is a condescending pompous ass...He would have been better off just advising Hunter to not answer any questions about Thrasher because nobody was going to ask anything anyways.... but by pulling the shit he did has turned out way worse...in reality it was a really stupid move...but he thinks he can do that because he thinks he's bigger than the sport...he's like a boy band manager...

i truly don't mean to beat a dead horse, but the reason they "dance around and won't answer" is because they're allowed to. A pool of reporters hammering the same topic/question would FORCE an answer or he'd just have to get up and walk out. I know this is is one of those "this is how it's always been" things, but the moto-media has fascinated me (not in a good way) because of how it's not actually MEDIA...it's public relations. But I digress.

Their agent is not the reason they’re on Honda. That’s ridiculous. He probably is the reason they’re selling donuts and whatever a rally towel is inside the concourse though.

ML would never.. Him along with several other journalists know not to bite the hand that feeds them. He said it himself - he can’t be too honest with his work or he would run out of work due to not being invited underneath the tent of whatever team he wants to report on. So don’t be 100% genuine and continue to receive pats on the heads from the “stars” and just report on what is safe to report on like a good boy.
