I can’t understand how any of these guys run stock levers. There are multiple options that are nearly unbreakable.

Because nothing feels better than a stock lever. Look at all the top level Pro’s. Almost all run stock levers. Aftermarket levers are for amateurs that want to “look” fast.

Probably the funniest thing RC said all night

Key word you used yourself; “nearly”.  All the folding levers are intended to minimize breakage.  Neither the lever itself nor the perch on the folding ones are much more unbreakable than stock.

Egen Honda ran ”stock” levers, they still had plenty of different shapes to choose from.

i also read that geico honda had like 20 different ARC bends to.

looks can be deciving when it comes to factory parts.

There's quite a few top 10 guys who run stock levers. A lot of the KTM umbrella run stock.

Kenny runs a stock front brake lever. I think he's went back and forth on a clutch lever.

Seems like a big risk when a minor tip over can break a stock lever clean off.

Most of them run the perch lose enough that the whole assemble rotates under impact. Papi might have had his assemble too tight and it didn't rotate.

These guys are so mental though. Tomac runs a grip from a completely different sponsor than the one the team has.

Just about anyone running off-road will disagree. Stock levers often fail on the first tip over. At a minimum they usually get bent a decent amount.

I think it was the angle of the impact. It came from straight behind I think. Only a folding lever might have survived.

I was told a little trick that some of the top guys do is run Teflon tape between the perch and the bar it allows it to rotate but still stay in place. Not sure if it's true but I have tried it and it works very well!

I keep my perches loose enough to move when hit, I just bent my first lever in over 40 hours of riding. I hate the way aftermarket levers feel.

Nothing feels better than a stock lever…EXCEPT stock Kawasaki levers!

I went through 7 clutch levers on my 3 Austrian bikes last year.  The last 1 inch breaks easily. I have an unbreakable lever and can't stand it. With 1 inch broken off I can still finish a moto. The biggest question is why do I keep falling on my left side? Its crazy.

Lol, riders don't buy aftermarket levels "To look fast".  What a completely idiotic statement.  Aftermarket unbreakable levers are used for the reason the name was given - unbreakable.  Prevents from ruining a ride day 20 miles out on a single track ride from a minor tip over.  Prevents you from cutting short a track day when you wash the front end 5 minutes into your first moto of the day.  Stock levers may feel great, but they don't hold up in crashes - and its not like you're going to carry one in your pack for a single track ride.  Buying a spare set of stockers to have in the tool box at the track, maybe - but sometimes its just easier to get unbreakable levers and be done with it.  If I "want to look fast", I'm going to take a lesson and get my body position and technique right.

Yes they run ARC, but they’re not off the shelf. The blades are custom made by Bob to suit each rider and they’re not the unbreakable style.

If you're breaking levers you're running them too far out on the bar.

Agree that nothing beats the feel of OEM levers and there’s plenty of things you can do to minimise breakages.

Like mounting the perch further in, using teflon tape for mounting, drilling a hole or filing a groove about 20mm in from the lever tip, etc etc etc.

However all these tricks are for crashes, not an impact like in this incident. A folding lever may have survived, maybe not. That’s racing.

Awfully defensive, that tells me that not only do you have a set of ASV's or ARC levers, but you also have the sticker in the back window of your truck.   hahahaha

That is the real Ricky, he has a biting sense of humor and from what I see and hear on podcasts he is a world class ball buster. More of that Ricky is better.
