... the job Dungey, Tedesco, Weimer and Decoster accomplished last weekend. Dig deeper than the fact that they won. Look at *how* they won it.
I just re-watched all three motos last night. With the minor exception of Weimer's bobble in moto 2, those three guys put in really remarkable rides under some heavy pressure. I'm pretty sure The Man's advice to them was to ride within themselves, stay on the pace and avoid trouble. Let's see where we are in moto 3. Which is just what they did. I'm pretty sure we weren't seeing any of them riding as 'hot' as we might be in the middle of a series points chase. If they had been further back in points or AC had stayed up in moto3 or we'd gotten a couple of bad starts, I bet RD and IT would have shown some extra wick in that moto.
The first moto put them solidly in position. Tedesco's ride in moto 2 was a thing of workmanlike beauty, despite DP running him down at the end. They hit moto 3 in the thick of it. Right where they hoped to be. And RD making the pass and gapping out while running very consistent laps just shows just what a great talent he is. Could he have jumped up on AC's butt and battled with him in the first moto? I think he probably could have. But there was no need to take on the risk in the first moto.
That's exactly how you win an MXdN. You're not going to win the MXdN in any single moto, but you sure can lose it. Just ask Reed or AC. Just an awesome job by all.
Good on Byrner, too, for making the gate moto 3. That was a wicked crash. He had to have been hurting big time.
