There are a lot of fans of Supercross that seem to think they are entitled to seeing changes in the broadcast, and even the racing. Whether it’s because you pay for Peacock, because you support the industry, or what have you-if you’re one of those entitled fans, allow me to educate you on why Feld Entertainment doesn’t care about your opinion. This is not going to be sugar coated, you’re not going to like it. But hopefully I can change some perspectives and more people can be happy just seeing Supercross for what it is.
Feld Entertainment is the owner and promoter of Monster Energy Supercross. They also own Monster Jam, Disney on Ice, Marvel Live, and Jurassic World Tour. What is different about the other properties of theirs when compared to Supercross? They’re not considered sports. Not by fans of the events, not by Feld, not by anyone. Unfortunately, the same can actually be said for Supercross. Supercross to Feld is not a sport. They don’t treat it like a sport, they haven’t since they acquired it, and never will. They aren’t in the business of professional sports, they never have been and never will be. They are in the entertainment business, and Supercross is an entertainment event. To them, you are paying to watch Disney on Ice for dirt bikes. And also unfortunately for us, Supercross likely receives a single digit percentage of the viewership that Disney on Ice does.
So what does this mean? It means that all they care about is profit margin. As they should of course, they’re a business. And the sport has gotten more popular over the last few years. It has grown while we’ve been complaining. That’s because they don’t see us complaining, they don’t hear us complaining, they don’t care that we complain. We are a bunch of red necks consuming content and products at Feld’s benefit. They see us paying for Peacock to watch their event, and they see their profit margin increasing. Every decision they make, or don’t make, is to grow and/or help retain that profit margin. Decisions like cutting Semi’s to run more commercials, moving over to streaming and not paying for live TV slots, Triple Crowns to boost new viewer engagement, SMX to compete with WSX, it’s all smart business. They know you, the hardcore fan, will watch anyway. We’ve proven that. So what am I getting at?
My goal in explaining this is so that next time you wonder why they don’t fix something, you don’t have to wonder. Because, regardless of these facts, we can still be fans and enjoy Supercross for what it is: a show. I still do. It’s not that I don’t wish SX could be the F1 of dirt bikes, it’s that I know as long as Feld runs the show, it won’t be.
Now, with that being said, what are your options? You only have two. Stop watching, or accept that your expectations will never be met and enjoy it for what it is. That’s all!
But what if you’re wrong?
I want to disagree with you, but I can't. You hit the nail on the head, Feld is in the entertainment business and they don't view SX as a sport. I was a kid back when clear channel ran SX, I'm curious to anyone that would know if they ran SX any better? I know back then SX was a week delayed and on espn2 with commercial breaks.
Can you stream Disney on Ice live????
Is there a winner at the end?
Any entity that promotes or broadcast a sport or any other event, is in the entertainment business.
You watch sports for entertainment. It is not a chore or anything that is necessary.
Saying that Feld ,ESPN, NFL Network or Fox Sports are in the entertainment business is a big ole... Duh!!!

People will bitch about anything. I remember having to watch it on ESPN a week later or setting the DVR to pick it up at 3 in the morning. Im just glad we get to watch it live and have race day live. I mean is it perfect... No. But its a lot better than ever before.
yup. just another product in the balance sheet
If anyone has any skills besides bitching on vital you could always get a job at FELD and be the change you want to see.

Well at least this thread isn’t a poll….
I don't know man...appreciation versus expectation? There's different ways to look at it. I think a lot of us look at it and appreciate that it's there. I know I do. It's possible to critique any sport, company, brand or show.
Pretty sure Feld could have stayed silent during the pandemic and ignored everything like many others did. But they didn't.
I don't know anyone at Feld...but I sure do look forward to Saturday nights.
Last I checked, there were no threads on how there was an overabundance of companies wanting to purchase SX from Feld, or...starting a series of their own at this Professional level.
Appreciation wins every time.
Is it time for: "Back in my day....we had to wait for Cycle-News to find out how the race went...."
By the way, Cycle News era was my era.
They are an entertainment company focused on profitability but they are also ignoring ways to make it more entertaining which would likely result in more profitability. So while I agree with you they should still be aggressively looking to improve the product.
Everyone I have taken to a SX race was impressed by how good of a production was put on and enjoyed themselves completely. So maybe there is a reason that FELD doesn't give a damn about what a bunch of whiny vitards think when all they do is complain about everything from the tracks to the announcers and anything else they see.
You'll have to qualify 1st.
Successful candidates must be fully vaccinated or be qualified for a medical or religious exemption. Proof of vaccination is required and may be submitted via the Company’s secure website. Florida employees may request exemption pursuant to FL House Bill No. 1-B. Fully vaccinated is defined as 14 days after the second dose of a two dose vaccine or 14 days after the single dose of a one dose vaccine.
Everybody knows this, it still sucks. You are part of the problem.
Exactly, they are incompetent. World Supercross is a result of their incompetence. If Feld ran a good show, competition likely would have never popped up.
Curious to know if you think the riders, who have dedicated their entire lives to this sport, would have your same view? That it's "just a show".
"enjoy it for what it is" - Why don't we all just bend over and take it? Who cares if my only choices are to just stop watching or pretend that it's good. This viewpoint is why we are still here and these threads exist.
Pit Row
I guess Arlington was packed to the rim with incompetence, they said it sold out but FELD is a failure and the competition from the WSX was against the nationals not the SX series. You just dont know shit now do you ?
I give two shits about any of this. The broadcast sucks. I don't care if Feld makes money or not.
And how is WSX against the nationals? It's called "Supercross". You better believe their ultimate goal is to replace American Supercross.
They scheduled the WSX races to compete with the National dates, they wanted to extend the SX season and get the riders that didn't want to race outdoors.
.The market for SX is in America. You have got to be either a troll or just a total idiot, no wonder you came back under a new user name.
Hilarious. Don't you understand that they could not schedule it during American Supercross? They would be out of business before they started. Your clueless if you don't think they are a direct competitor for Supercross and are going after the whole series.
There's always McDonald's Mr Jones
If you bought a new vehicle, and it was a lemon, would you say "well at-least its better than the car I bought in 1984"
im very interested to understand what they meant when they said sold-out.
It was the most people I have ever seen at a Dallas/Arlington supercross, however, supercross will never "sellout" ATT stadium.
Perhaps their version of sold-out is, every ticket they wanted to sell, was purchased, and did not mean that every seat was purchased.
Whether or not the riders think it's a sport or not is irrelevant. They are paid to perform on a dirt bike, period. They aren't paid for their opinions.
Who were you again…..
What a waste of time to read. Clueless!
Right in the target. It takes a mass media to reach the masses. If you broadcast on your own, you just want to cash in on the profit. The solution would consist in the internationalization of sport (or entertainment, depending). Feld had his hands full but found a solution to keep control.
