Cooper Webb Appreciation

Webb  Michael myers tf out of his competition Laughing

Huge Michael Myers fan and excellent analogy. I'm an Eli fan, but if Webb rolls out in the opening ceremonies to the Halloween music wearing a Michael Myers mask...I'm jumping to the Webb Wagon real quick. Someone needs to key Feld and his people in on this. Love it!

He would literally traumatize every kid and some adults in the audience.

Btw look how big a difference Aldon makes when you compare 2022 and 2023 for the best offseason ever guy of last year.

It’s a different bike if I’m not mistaken. Or they just ironed out the kinks on it. I wouldn’t put it on Baker.

I like how weege put it. The fan is confused when he wins because he’s never fantastic in qualifying but just gets the job done in the main when it counts. You gotta give it to the guy, he does not give up.

Very similar to Chad Reed I think. Never quite the raw speed of Ricky and James but could find that extra when it counted. I’ve never been a big Coop fan but you can’t deny his tenacity.

Webb has in spades what Sexton is missing, he can read a track and make constant adjustments. Not a big fan TBH but credit where it’s due.

Plessinger broke his arm early in the last season. I would say he looks better than he did on the Yamaha, but I think he is training with Baker now since he moved to ktm. At this point I bet ktm is pretty happy with how he is riding. He looks pretty good as their second rider.

Look Webb is awesome at what he does, but do you guys really think he passes Tomic for the win if the race was longer? Serious question.

Obviously we will never know the answer, all we can assess is 'trend'.

How were Eli's lap times trending Vs. Webb's lap times?
"IF these lap times follow this trend, who wins?"

Not forgetting there are many variables to bear in mind.

Don’t then.  It’s all the bike lol.  Webb didn’t do anything this off season compared to last off season to improve himself after having shit results last year I guess.  I wonder why he bothered to go back to Baker then?  What a waste of time.

Lot's of talk about speed and who has it.

This really should not need to be said, but the fastest lap does not win a race.  Multiple fastest laps do not win a race.  The fastest average wins the race.

Someone actually questioned the legitimacy of racecraft.  If Villopoto was dead he would turn over in his grave...

Great ride from Webb but I see all the on Eli’s fender talk when Eli ran off the track which is why he caught him.  Maybe he would have passed Eli with another 1-2 laps or maybe Eli pulls back away.  You can’t give a oh for sure though based on Eli running off the track and costing himself 3-4 seconds.

He was down 13 seconds at one point.    How much did Tomacs little mistake near the end of the race cost him.  Lets say 4-5 seconds.  Webb still made up a huge difference.    He closed quickly after Tomacs bobble.

Webb love those kind of tracks. He is very good right now and ready for the hunt but sometimes whoops still a struggle. Race craft championship could be the key.

Ballsyest move of the night....not even a minute into the main.    Cooper over the table @ 19:07....

To my knowledge, noone else did this.   He discussed it a bit in the presser.

Chase is running is at 110% of skill level when up front and pays the price at some point. Runs the same lines.
Eli is at 90% most of the time (except triple crown M3). Runs the same lap lines, doesn’t take chances, willing to let the other guy win a race rather than crash and risk the championship
Webb is the slowest of the three, and needs a slow track, technical, slippery, rutty to prevail  Excels at adapting late in the race and has the nerve to bust out combinations no one else will. Fast tracks like Houston not his strength.
Andersen is torpedoing himself before he enters the conversation

Color me ignorant but, I'm still waiting for an explanation for how someone that's catching someone else from behind and occasionally passes them to win the race, does it while going slower....

By not crashing or going off track. Tomac and Sexton yarded Webb at Houston. When it gets tough and technical Webb is at his best. At Oakland Tomac passed Webb on the first lap. Finished behind Tomac at the finish, despite an off track excursion by Tomac. So slower most of the time.

So he wasn't closing the distance to Eli prior to Eli going off the track? Never catches and passes 'straight up' is what you're implying?

Webb is fast, very fast.

The only slow thing in this thread are people's brains that are too slow to think objectively.

Webb is like a shark.  If he gets a decent start and smells blood in the water he picks up his pace and latches on looking for mistake or weakness.
He’s the last guy you wanna see behind you with 5 minutes left and he’s on.

Racers have been winning by getting in front, pulling a gap, backing it down and cruising home since Jesus hucked a camel over a sand dune.

However with Webb’s way of racing a main event, that can be a dangerous tactic if he’s not too far behind. It’s creating a situation that not many have had to deal with previously.

Not a Webb fan but you have to appreciate what he brings to the table.

I wish I could see who down-voted this and discuss with them why.

It’s fact. It’s in black and white. It cannot be challenged.

*It’s not about being upset about the down-votes, it’s about understanding what makes people mentally need to think negatively about a fact.. it’s just strange behaviour. Weird weird behaviour..*

You said Webb lapped faster than Tomac from mid-race every lap except one: Showing 19 laps, so mid-race is about lap 9? I count five laps from there that Tomac was faster, hence the 👎

Can we extrapolate then that, in 2021 when Webb won 8 races, that the "clearly faster" Roczen, was just "backing it down" and his mechanic had to have failed to tell him that Webb was unaware that he had no chance and was actually trying to win the race?

Total distance = 19 laps. So the mid-point would be 9.5 laps. Round up to 10 because we cant measure half a lap.

From the completion of lap 10, Eli was after on:
Lap 12 by 0.8 of a second
Lap 13 by 0.2 of a second
Lap 14 by 0.1 of a second

Coops. was faster on:
Lap 11 by 0.1 of a second
Lap 15 by almost 2 seconds
Lap 16 by OVER 2 seconds
Lap 17 by 1 second
Lap 18 by 1 second
Lap 19 by 3 seconds.

Splitting hairs, I know. But realistically, averages from the mid point of the race Make Cooper faster.

Yep Webb’s average was faster than Tomac’s in the second half of the race, but that’s not what you said initially. No big deal.
