I don’t know what happened. He was running 5th then all the sudden he dropped anchor. I hate it for him because I really want him to do good especially on his new bike. 🤦🏻‍♂️

About that time in the season when everyone starts getting better and Kenny begins to fade. I predict another few decent performances, but the time we hit round 10-11 he will be around that 8-12 place consistently.

I’m not one to say “it’s the bike” but sure seems like it is. We all saw how great he did in WSX on the Firepower Honda. They had the bike dialed! Now he’s been chasing settings for 6 weeks and going backwards

WSX?  The series where he has 1 championship and zero career wins. Blink

An exhibition race, in ‘Party season’ with a depleted field isn’t the best gauge of performance.
when will people understand this?

He made the choice to Race this bike . He had 2 PC built Kawis  he never even rode . He rode the 2023 Yamaha.  He could have rode the Honda. .  This team has let him do what he wants with the parts he wants . This is on Kenny

The bike was plenty good enough for the first ten minutes, and when it all settled in there didnt look to be any difference between His Suzuki, Anderson's Kawasaki & Barcia's GasGas. They all looked the same.

Then something happened.... Which wasn't shown on the broadcast.

Kenny's natural & comfortable position in the main events now is 5th-8th. I'll take a look at the lap charts later today.

I think the idea that he'll ever be as he was before 'the crash' is probably a thing of the past now, and something Kenny fans (of which I'm one) need to let go of at this point. I do think he'll win again, perhaps even this year, but as for running at the sharp end week in week out, picking up a dozen wins and podium spots across the yr and ultimately being a title contender etc - those days are likely over imo. Would love to be wrong but just don't see it at his age and at this point in his career and life.

Whether it's physical fitness or mental or somewhat both, regardless of what it is; he's running out of it by about halfway through these mains... That's not being mean or unfair or again something I want to see, it's just as it is.

That said he can still certainly be better. We saw with Tomac last week, who's leading the championships and won multiple races this year, the sheer difference being uncomfortable can make to a performance, hence why they're all desperately looking for this silver bullet comfort level with the bike. I think he had it on the Honda at Bercy and was hoping to find it consistently on the Suzuki (like the good o'l days) but of course it's not something you can easily bottle or necessarily accurately judge on a couple of experimental test track sessions.

Bad result in the main but he still won his heat race, not many other riders have this year.

Yes now if we could just get Friese and Brayton to be the other podium guys he’d be good to go.  Clearly they’d be ahead of Sexton Webb  Eli Anderson Plessinger.  You see the difference that existed in WSX?  Dialed bike…..

Also, triple crown formats versus 22 minute mains…

Rough rutted SX tracks will always haunt Ken and while I hate excuse making I do understand the reason.

If you know anything about motocross you could still see his comfort level there regardless of who he raced

Him going outside of the whoops in practice every second lap and jumping them every lap has zero to do with competition

I genuinely feel bad for this guy. He knows as well as anyone the price a rider can pay for mistakes. Even with Honda, it seems with every race he seems to obsess about the bike settings more and more, getting lost and frustrated. At the end of his heat win yesterday he looked like shit during the interview, not just worked out, but clammy, pale, breathless. I would find it hard to believe he doesn't have some sort of PTSD from his injuries, along with some permanent immune system damage. As well as the damage that goes along with being the face of multi-billion dollar international corporations since he's been a child, performing in front of hordes of strangers, thousands of miles from home, with the only validation and worth he receives being his winning, all the while being pressured constantly by "the next big thing" coming along (basically he did lose his job with Honda to Jett, didn't he?). He has lived in a crucible for most of his life. He doesn't seem to be handling it well this season, a season he seems to have made some bad choices entering into.

His fast lap was a full two seconds off of Chase's fast lap . He was right there at the start and immediately was dropped by the top 3 then looked like he was going to settle into 5th or 6th but really dropped off at the end . He had races similar to this on the Honda also although usually more competitive early in the race . The roughness of the track really wore him out I think .

Corner speed is not where it used to be. Mid apex he seems slower then the top guys.

And everything to do with the track.
Last night was a cupped out rutfest. Completely different to Paris.

Check every race where the track gets rutted out & you'll see Kenny take it steady. Even on the Honda he did the same. Its understandable why.

If you knew anything about motocross you'd understand that it's easier to look comfortable riding at 95% at an off-season race than it is when you need 105% to keep up with your competition when the season gets real.

Knowing MX so well should help you know that the competition level impacts comfort level.  If you can win at 90% you’re so much more comfortable than having to go full tilt to keep 5 other guys from catching you.  That’s how MC won 72 races.  He had everyone covered and then some, mostly toying with them most of his career. When he lost a step or two it had nothing to do with the bike.

Since he won his heat race, let's talk about that. Kenny was drenched with sweat and out of breath after his heat race won. Tomac appeared fresh as a daisy after his.

Either Kenny is fighting the bike, hasn't got his fitness dialed, or he's sick. That's my read on it...
