At the time he got a lot of shit here on Vital about being washed up/typical Kenny fading as the season goes on. But my thought was that his self-preservation mode kicked in and he did it to let Barcia by. So does anyone know if Kenny jumped them regularly or just that pass? Also, what was it they said before the main about Kenny's bike and the changes they made after the heat race? Maybe that was the reason he resorted to jumping.

Maybe he had the foresight that the whoops would be wet and slippery or cupped out by the main so he wanted to get them dialed, as jumping them is still a skill to get through them quickly.
More likely though, he didn't trust his setup and backed it down.
His mechanic wrote "Let Justin Bye" on the pit board
Why is there no thread about Plessinger passing Tomac in the whoops? On a pumpkin at that.

Kenny was jumping them during practice/qualifying.
Because that ruins the narrative that the new KTM is no good in whoops. KTM definitely had some setup issues last year but even then Webb didn't look near as sketchy in whoops as he did on the old bike.
Well Tomac was behind him to start the main and then Kenny pulled away 10 seconds or so by the end of the race, so there is that.
It'd be interesting to see "average time" through the whoops as opposed to fastest. A good blitz through the whoops may turn a fast time one lap, and then the same time may be given back on a somewhat sideways run the next lap. Where when a guy like Marv is bouncing through them, it is probably nearly the same every lap.
You know that something is wrong when one of the best whoop riders in modern time starts to jump them.
I get that he wanted to be on another brand after Honda threw him under the bus, but i think that he would have done better on the Fire Power Honda than the current Suzuki setup.
His finish on Saturday night was better than all but 1 race last season.
Do you think that he looks like the same guy that passed Tomac in the whoops in France?
Didn't he just gap Tomac Saturday night?
The 4th looks good on paper but I bet even Kenny is a little bummed he started right up there with Webb but finished 23 seconds behind him. That was a great podium opportunity with Cianciarulo, Anderson and Barcia crashing, Marv and Ferrandis on the sideline, and someone else apparently riding Tomac's bike.
I think he's just at a stage in his career where he is riding within certain comfort limits, and that's just who he is going to be. But on the bright side, his consistency has improved significantly, as have his results since last season.
You could be on to something.

Ya, definitely interesting. There was one lap Saturday night were Kenny slowed down on entry to jump them rather than skim and it was clearly slower. You are right though, I've seen certain tracks where Marvin was jumping through just as fast or even passed the other rider while they were skimming them.
