Don't have any idea who 818 is, but from reading his posts it's clear to me that he's hip enough to the scene to know Tomac's first name.

anyway, back on the original topic. i still think it's a slap in the face of american motocross to not race the des Nations.

The riders who busted their ass all summer deserve it--bottom line!

"We don't have a rider WORTH having on the team who's racing the GPs on a full time basis"

My point, and what I have been saying, is that that rider's "worthiness" is made due to representing our Country full time on the GP circuit. Jacob Saylor raced a full year of GP's a year or so ago, he should've been on the team. He carried the American Flag all year across Europe, that deserves a spot on the team in my eyes. I think more American's should race in Europe, representing our Country, and there should be some reward for doing so. As it stands now, a rider racing in Europe is penalized and not even considered because he didn't race in the US, and that's bullshit.

I used Osborne as an example of a rider who's done so and then you go your panties in a wad.

I don't think we have to send the all-star squad to win and I don't want to send the all-star squad, I want to send those who deserve it, and an American rider who spends a year representing his country in Europe deserves the honor of doing the same at the race of nations.

That said, is Osborne worthy of being on the team to you? Yes or no, will suffice.
Flariders formula has worked in the past...If the right circumstances arose it could happen again...A struggling Pamo Honda GP riding Hughes was not a very popular pick at the '2000 des Nations.

After a great showing at the event, he came away a hero and relaunched his US career as a result.

Sure it can work...but that doesn't mean it should be a mandated part of the selection process.

However, I have hazed the newbies... I have NEVER called anyone a "fool" or an "idiot"... typo's happen!!!..... Sticking up for someone that said(typed) something stupid, is NOT something I will try and justify...... Stupid is stupid!!!

If Mr. Dunes tried to clarify what he was saying, we wouldn't be having this conversation!

He said something dumb and got called out on it!!! And then, YOU popped up and tried to defend him! And that, made you YOU look silly!

Be it Bercy, Geneva, Dortmund, Sheffield or MXdN...it's the riders choice.
James didn't want to do it for whatever reason and I agree with the idea that since he didn't race the Nationals, doing the MXdN might not be right or the best idea.

That said, for all of you American Flag waving drum beaters who go on and on about how far superior the US is over the rest of the world, WHAT THE HELL ARE YOU WORRIED ABOUT?

and lastly, if I ran the MXdN (I refuse to call it MXoN) or the US Team, I would make it a requirement that at least one member of a countries team must have raced at least 1/3 or 1/2 of the World GP's. This would cut down on all the ringers from the US racing and even encourage more American's to race GP's. That would put Zach Osborne on the team.

Dave....think real closely .......you actually think this way? You do realize that all the fast guys here in the U.S. and the all the other racers from around the world that race here.....couldn't compete in the MXdN? I respect your views Dave , but this is just plain stupid if you think about it.

Look at it this way.....IF we played by your rules , we would lose some of our fastest riders to race overseas , AND we wouldn't get to see some of the oversea's "fast guys" come over here and compete.

You say they should have to race 1/3 - 1/2 of the GP's just to be considered to ride the MXdN's race?

what the hell are you drinking tonight? If you lived closer i would be coming over to your house to help you indulge in whatever it is your doing.

You jumped into this one head first!!

You can tell if someone is "Hip enough" to know a name?

Dave sponsors more people than I'll ever know!! True story!!

I know several riders that are "Pro's", I ride with them...a lot!!

By reading someone's posts, you'll get nothing!!!

I knew this would come back up, but I thought it would happen after the MXDN.

James not going to the MXDN had nothing to do with:
1. Money
2. Not wanting to go for the USA
3. Not wanting to go for the US fans
4. Brooks
5. Team San Manuel
6. Because he is afraid to loose in Europe
7. Jeff Ward
8. And anything else I might have missed

He said it and just about everyone in this forum. He did race the US Outdoor nationals and he didn't deserve to go to the MXDN's. There were many US riders that raced all summer long and they deserved to go over James Stewart. The riders that raced all summer long are up to speed, their bikes are ready and have been tested, and their teams are prepared.

The 2009 USA MXDN team was put together with the best US Outdoor riders we have and they have a good shot at winning the race. If Stewart would have gone and not been prepared he would have much more too loose than just a race. He would have lost a race for the US fans. And he knew there were riders that are much more prepared than him and it took a big man to say "Pick the guys that are ready, I don't want to take someones spot".

Team USA is a very good team and they will be ready to race when the MXDN starts. Stand behind them and root for their victory. Those are our guys and James Stewart knew it. Remember Dungey, Wiemer and IT are racing for him too at the MXDN's.

GO TEAM USA!!!

BTW......every other country on this planet has been "injecting ringers" into our national series for years! Why the hell is the GP circuit supposed to be more importnat that the US nationals?

No, Dave said "AT LEAST ONE MEMBER of a countries team" must have raced 1/2 to 1/2 of the GPs. I agree with Dave in substance, but not in mandating it. I think that when a country has a guy competing SUCCESSFULLY in the GPs, as we do with Zach Osborne, he should be given careful consideration for a slot on the team. Zach won a GP, so he is clearly fast enough. He's over there already and is acclimated. These things are important and should have been given consideration when the team was selected.

I can buy into that.

A black and white rule that says that is how the selection process must always work...nope not buying that.

If I have to post a pic of myself riding to get some respect from you, guess I'll just have to be content with being a "punk". Oh well.

Sorry the avatar pic isnt large enough to meet your requirements Smile

Do you ever click on anyone's profile in an attempt to fulfill these requirements you have?

Oh, I did meet Dave at a GNCC in Georgia a few years back and at Dave and Busters at A1 a couple of times and he seemed much nicer in person than he does in this thread. He even gave me an EI hat!

Makes sense to me, too. Jeff Ward even stated that he "turned down" an opportunity to race the MXdN in '86. Then he says later in the interview, "I just don't think its right to just not go(referring now to JS7) ." If the internet had existed then, I'd bet he would have taken a beating on his decision. Don't get me wrong, I'm a big Wardy fan, but seems contradictory to me. Just my observation of the interview.

This is Jeff Wards opinion about James Stewart declining the invite to the MXON.. I personally think JS should have gone. What do you think?..This is a question Eric Johnson from Racerx asked Wardy and Wardys answer..

I’m going to put you on the spot here. What do you think of a rider like James Stewart not going to the Motocross of Nations in 2009? I mean I don’t even know if you want to answer that…
No, I will because I just think for what he gets out of the sport that America puts in support-wise and money-wise and what he’s got out of the sport, he needs to realize you don’t always get paid to go somewhere. It’s not always fun to travel. But I think when this race comes up, I think it’s your duty for what everybody else has done for your whole career, you need to support our side of the country. He says he feels like he doesn’t want to take somebody’s spot. Hey, that happens all the time. The best riders go. That’s plain and simple. If you take someone’s spot, they’ll get over it. Everybody gets over it. And he is the best rider. Period. It doesn’t matter if he’s ridden in a year or two year’s, he still the best rider right now. I just don’t think it’s right to just not go. I don’t know reasons. I don’t know what his excuses are, but my reasoning is that he should go no matter what because the sport has gotten him where he’s at.

it might not be the right thing "not" going for james...being the badass we all know he is,

the prob is he is taking a riders place that has been racing and putting in the time for his sponsors and team and the us fans all year in america. and james might not be the fastest rider right now like ward thinks he is. when you don't race you don't have race speed as easily as you do when riding the nats

You just can't turn that kind of race speed on and off like a light switch. You have to be prepared or there can be a huge price to pay.

James did the right thing.

I'm fine with JS not racing the mxon or nationals, really
I'd question whether him being properly prepared or not would be an excuse for not going though.
If this pic is any indication of what the track is going to be like, I don't think he'd be rusty to the point that he'd be putting himself in any more danger than usual. He's gotta be brushing up for the US open.

Hey, look man, I'm trying to be nice here!!

I'm not sticking up for Dave, but I do think he's a good guy!

Dave and I have NO background together!!!... I buy my gallons of EI in my local store!! I don't even get a damn discount!!......... He did send me some free decals that I run on my camper, van, truck, boat and bike.... Nice enough guy..

You people that have no clue who he is, are just punks trying to be cool here at Vital..Sad really!!

Post up some pics of you riding, or show up and ride ride with ONE of us, and you might get respected more...

I haven't looked at your profile... My bad!!

Mine isn't proper, I should have up-dated it two years ago.

I don't care who you are or what you do!!

You DO seem like a punk trying to be cool.. You were NOT part of this conversation, but jumped right in.....True?

You're defending "Dan" when he said something stupid...... If you're cool with that, you better be able to take some shit for it!!

I didn't defend anyone, nor did I attack anyone.

If you take offense to being called a "Punk" or "Stupid", maybe you should look in the mirror and think about what you type before you say what you have to say!!!

False...it's a moto board, the point is that anyone can jump in.

If you want to have a private conversation, try a pm or email.

Stop already, you're beginning to look silly again.

Do you remember what happen to James at A-1 when his scooter wasn't quite ready?

I am sure they are still working on set up of the new bike.

Silly again? Where did I look silly at all?

YOU jumped in a conversation that you weren't part of .... Are you trying to up your post count?

"Dan Dunes" said something ignorant, and you're sticking up for him... I don't get where you're going with this..

Start from page three, read what I have to say. You'll see who's being silly!!

Wasn't A1 the incident involving Reed running into the back of James as he entered a whoop section immediatley following a turn?

I know it looked like James' bike hesitated for a moment coming out of the corner but I can't remember if there was a solid reason given, such as a missed gear, carb hiccup or brake check.

Was that A1?

Oh by the way, you said something about me trying to up my post count.

I've been a member for a year and a half and I think you'd agree that with my current post count being fairly low that I'm not someone who'd be too motivated at raising it by haggling back and forth with anyone.

Have a good evening.

Post a reply to: Wardy's oppinion on JS not going to nations.
