I'm so thankful I found this place
Lucky gave Hutch ownership of MotoNews when Hutch left the race team.

DeCal Works Huge Plastic Inventory of UFO and Polisport kits.
And, you know, what I enjoyed about it when it was "on" may be what people who came on then and later felt, and that's fine. But they need more people to have any kind of critical mass.
This place has had a remarkable run for a web community, and a lot of credit for that goes to Gibby's stability and patience in letting folks have just enough run of the place.
Lucky launched MN shortly after he, Hutch and I had a sit down at the LCS shop to talk about putting LCS Racing on the internet way back in the WI! days of 1996-1997. LCS was an original sponsor of Whip It! (parts for placement). Having the technical aptitude they did, they studied up and figured out how to do it without my help.
Bruhn offered his services to WI! a short time later. Basically if I would by him a digital SLR and front him some expense cash, he would file reports from all the race venues. I politely refused, having already decided the ROI on an MX site (as anything more than a labor of love) would not justify a formal business effort. (We'd been recruiting and paying expenses for average joes for a couple of years without making a profit, at that point). I realized that the only way to justify the effort was to do it in conjunction with an established brick and mortar presence like a shop, mail order house or west coast magazine.
Teef's setup with Continental uniquely positioned him to fly to almost every event for free. No one else could have done what he did (and had anything to eat, anyway). We might have our differences, but he made a significant contribution to the sport where no one else could have.
He then approached Lucky and Hutch with, I guess, the same offer, and that was how that all got going.
Actually that was myself and the infamous Mikeee P doing the posting of news from SX and MX events on Whip It!, long before Lucky and Hutch put up motonews. We got a c&d letter from Cycle News' attorney who alleged, falsely, that we were lifting their results and reprinting them. They also got our press credentials torpedoed with Roy Jansen and CCE/Pace. We did Whip It! from late 1994 on through about 1998. Motosnooze came a around in about 97.
Whip It! basically took contributions from anyone willing to help. Eric Johnson, Mike Showen, Duke Finch, DC, Eric Gorr, FMF, Primal Impulse, JT, LCS, Lex Valasakos (later of supercross.com), Cody Landers (later of motocross.com), Larry Lawrence at AMA Pro Racing, and Moose/A-loop...shit...how could I forget?!? AND Steve Giberson! (I keep coming back and editing as I remember more people) all provided sponsorship or content in one form or another and we relied on volunteer spectators to call us from the events and tell us what was going on, which we would turn around an post on the site (this was way before the widespread availability of forum software like PHPBB, etc). Sort of a stone-age Twitter. We gave contributors props on the site and a long distance phone card for their help. That's really all there was to it. Eric Johnson was the original source (in secret, for the most part; he didn't want to piss anyone off), of the original Fresh Dirt. Mike took it on later. When my business interests took me in another direction, I laid Whip It! to rest and agreed to let Mike have the freshdirt moniker for his own use to continue doing what he was doing. I also put up a forum at dirtbike.com, which sustained itself until I sold that domain name in 2004.
Where did the infamous MikeeeP come from? Well, Mike had been an active fixture on the newsgroup rec.motorcycles.dirt (newsgroups were pre-cursors to forums like this one) and on AOL. He just emailed me out of the clear blue one day after Whip It! had been going for a few months and asked if he could help. I said, "Why not?". I've actually only met the guy face to face twice. It would be futile to try to defend him to his many haters up here, not to mention I wasn't there when he was torquing everyone. But I will say he has always been square and earnest with me.
DC wrote up a little piece in Racer X about Whip It! about 8-9 years ago.
The best quote ever? Jeff Emig, "Whip It!? You're Whip It!? That's where I found out I was riding for Kawasaki next year!". That was cool.
What's Lucky's doing now...did he start up a company that made some type of mx performance part?
Whippy wasn't it you who directed motonews.com to motodrive? Classic
Pit Row
thing about poser fucktards is they come and go...real fucktards like flarider and trip and me stick around a lot longer
I discussed seat bouncing with other Engineers that ride motorcycles, not necessarily motocross rider, but this one guy has a keen understanding of physics, and the physical inputs from the body into the motorcycle. I can vividly remember discussing the Travis Preston seat bounce picture and the Engineer says: "Look at his body, as soon as he rocks even his hips forward he's unloading his weight from the rear to the front and initiating the rebound of the shock. If the shock begins to rebound prior to the rear wheel leaving the ground, even for a milli-second, it's adding to the vertical velocity of the trajectory."
With some rough calculations based on the photo series and suspension travel, it was evident that the shock rebounded at an average rate of 2.7 ft/sec in the vertical direction. That's an average rebound velocity, and obviously the first few inches of rebound are much faster than the final few inches in the stroke of the shock.
Even after all the equations, and all the math, the only rebuttal I could get was: "You're wrong." "Wrong equation" Blah Blah Blah..........No science to rebute, just name calling and a click.
I learned more about tyranny than physics. And for that I am grateful.
I never did get my refund for services not rendered. Communist Bastards!
Never did go back, and it's been downhill ever since from what I hear. TFS left and started racetime and seatbounce.com both of which are failures.
I thought he went back to working for NASA or something? Too bad for NASA and yet another waste of taxpayer dollars.
