Anyone have an update on Levi?

I'm happy to have had San Diego to watch last night but I call it average.

The 250s were lame and will be lame for their entire series. Splitting the good guys between West And East does work for me. We need a full main gate with the fastest 250 riders battling it out each weekend.

Not much excitement in the 450's. A1 was good. Last night i struggled to stay awake.

Hope A2 brings some good racing.

Seriously though, I can see them eventually doing away with the West and East and giving us 17 rounds of the elite 250 guys. The current 250 format is on crutches.

I’ve said this before but RC would be fine if he didn’t have corporate suits dictating what he’s supposed to sound like. Lee is calm and conversational even though he’s the main commentator and that’s due to natural talent and the trust his career has earned him from the execs, meaning they don’t likely instruct him, therefore he can be himself.

You can walk easily along a sidewalk. Raise that same sidewalk 60 feet in the air, you’ll walk with more trepidation. Corporate suits have a difficult time understanding that when you add pressure, you often get worse results. If they would have gotten out of RC’s way from the start, we’d be hearing some incredible insights from the most successful motocrosser of all time.

I think part of the production crew’s plan is to dumb it down so the average non-moto person watching understands what is going on.  I understand their tactic, but it can be frustrating for the die hard fan.

These are two separate things imo. Yes they may be catering to a new audience that but that’s not the issue. RC’s clearly trying to eat up time with word emphasis. Dragging out things like “one hundred percent”, “these guys are gonna be bringing it tonight”, “they’re gonna have their hands full”, etc. He’s not doing this because they tell him to, he’s doing it because he’s uncomfortable doing everything else they do instruct him to do. He’s creating a safety net for himself. Shifting between these moments of peace, back to game time commentary is where the mistakes people have discussed are happening, and that’s due to discomfort.

The leadership team could still “encourage” RC to dumb it down for newer fans while still allowing him vastly more breathing room to just be himself. Instead they’ve got him on a tight rope trying to be something he’s not, and that’s not RC’s fault, it’s theirs.

Ricky Carmichael is the worst motorsport commentator I have ever heard. I turned the races off last night and went to bed. I've just watched the 450 main and I think they called out 5 points of on track action and 3 of them was replays of crashes. Also Webb has to beat Tomac first to even consider being a championship contender, as Eli has just won his 2 worse races back to back. People say it's to early to call but the only thing taking Eli and Jett out are crashes. The commentators comparing 450 riders to Jett is to much for me

I'm probably in the minority but for me...Ricky just has to be Ricky.  I'm happy for him to hang with us as long as he wants.

We’re missing his best commentary because they won’t let Ricky be Ricky. If they would, he’d shine. Execs, smart as they are, are often too myopic to understand things of this nature, even if they won’t admit it.

If ricky were allowed to be ricky more often,  think of how many times he'd say, "he's going for it" ???

two questions.

1.)   How did Lopes end up in front of Hampshire for the red flag staggered restart?

2.) In the presser....someone mentioned to Barcia "did you see Chases tweet" regarding the take down.   Did Chase tweet something?  (I'm not on Twatter)

EDIT: fixed a few things.

EDIT: fixed a few things.

1. In the event of a restart they line up in the position they were in on the previous lap.

2. Sexton didn't tweet anything. Daniel Blair asked Barcia if he had seen Sexton’s tweet as a joke because one of the other reporters asked Barcia if he had seen Anderson's Tweet calling him a bitch. Both were related to takedown incidents.

Edit: Staggered restart.

Thanks Mav.   I thought Hampshire had passed Lopes prior to the red flag....  I haven't been back to watch it again yet.

I knew about the Ando tweet and that Barcia had not seen it.    JB seemed to be speaking very rapidly thru that post race conference....but the weird part is that he kept saying he and Chase are friends.   In Weege post race show, Chase didn't seem like he was "friends" with JB.... lol.

That whole Ando tweet is bizarre if what JB says is true....that he wasn't arguing with Ando over the pass.

Hampshire had made the pass, but had not yet led for an entire lap before the red flag was pulled out. The whole line-up reverted to the order of the previous lap.

Barcia always talks fast.

And concerning Barcia being friends with Sexton, Justin did say something along the lines of "at least I'd like to think so." during the press conference.

And you know he is being told what to say how?  I disagree.  I think it's hard being a commentator and he doesn't have the chops for it.  He definitely has the credibility, but that doesn't make him a good commentator.  All he does is repeat the same stuff every race....."now that (insert name here) got passed, he needs to follow and learn and then adjust to come back....all the while (insert name here) is pulling way.  RC should be identifying why the guy is faster and explain that and critique the other.  It's a joke.  They need Weege and Blair up there IMO and Ricky can be a key part of the team by analyzing details of practice and after the race etc.

If you listen to the Stew pod with RC, he remembers details from his races I would have never imagined and can break down tracks he raced on in awesome detail.  He could do that and add so much to the broadcast with someone else calling the whole race.

Cant disagree with that , watching live at 5am for the mains wasnt easy.

250 West is a bust now,  and Tomac is on fire.

That said, lots of guys fast enough to be the next guy.

It was OK, but it wasnt A1.

People saying Ricky is alright and it's his bosses fault. Ricky has said on multiple occasions that 5th place in the lcq is the perfect position to be in, well that just makes him sound like a moron. He's that fucking bad that people have a drinking game for he's regurgitated catchphrases. You have Weege, JT and Blair at nearly every race why not use them. Why use somebody that can't talk fast enough. It's embarrassing to watch Ricky Carmichael struggle to say a team name. He's ment to be an expert, an expert of what? Tell stories about riders weekly habits. I feel like I watch a different race to the commentators because they miss so much.

so, what did everyone think of the whoops last night?

I liked how they were just before the last corner and that they were reasonably long.

But they need to stop putting whoops after a rhythm lane. They should be straight out of a corner.

You’re not in the minority. A few idiots here that would bitch and moan about anything. RC is the fucking man in or out of the booth. The naysayers can gfy. Armchair quarterbacks.

Bailey was horrible in the booth imo. Super monotone, boring voice, and his super mancrush on MC, would make Chris Collinsworth love of Patrick Mahomes seem tame. Art Eckman is who made those broadcasts exciting. I have watched those races multiple times over the years and Bailey never showed any ounce of excitement that I can remember.

All this talk about catering to "New" fans is a joke. There's no "New" fans. The only people watching this shit are diehard fans who are willing to jump through the hoops of first even finding out where and how watch to it, and then reaching into their pockets to pay extra to watch it when every other stupid sport out there can be viewed on regular cable channels for free. Where are these "New Fans" supposed to be coming from ? It's not like they're going to be scrolling through channels and stumble across it. I haven't heard one advertisement for supercross and I have 3 rounds within 50 miles from my house. So those of us who are actually interested have to sit through a bunch of dumbed down filler to make it more appealing to the "New" fans. But there are no "new" fans watching. Anyone attending or paying to watch are people who are already into it. It would be nice to have the broadcasts geared more towards the true fans (Who more than likely don't need a little pointer to let us know who the riders are) instead of trying to cater to the casual or new fans who aren't watching anyway ShockedLaughing. It'd be like tuning into the superbowl and having them explain that if they kick the ball through the 2 sticks that's 3 points, and if they get it across the line that's 6 points. New fans aren't  paying 4.99 a month to watch something they don't know a thing about. Whistling LaughingLaughingLaughing

Exactly.

The only thing coming even close, as far as "new fans" go, are the kardashians and other hollywood clowns wearing MX jerseys as a fashion style.

Lol that's so f**king funny, especially from an international perspective

To watch supercross as international viewer you need:

- Decent tech wizardy to figure out the latest iteration of superpeacockcross.net/stream
- Pay well over £100 for the season

All of this to get 3 HOURS of racing

The number of new viewers stumbling across this sport is zero

I'd bet the sponsors/manufacturers would get a better ROI if they just streamed it live on YouTube

5th is good coz the rider is in a position to capitalise and make it in.

3rd or 4th they have a target on them and can get taken out.

Obviously it's better to be 1st.

But Carmichael always likes to be the chaser ready to pounce.
