Anyone Else Think The San Diego Track Looks.....Kinda Boring?

No real creativity track design wise...no split sections, no over under...pretty basic rhythm lanes. The long whoop section will make things interesting, but it's not even THAT long...looks like 13 whoops. It is mostly 180 corners, which should help with some passing opportunities...

I dunno, I'm going this weekend and was really hoping for something interesting for the new stadium! Still stoked though!image-20230119080304-1

That huge turn across the start straight looks awesome.

I actually like that flat turn on the start straight, hopefully that's a good spot to pass. Speaking of which, looks like a lot of 180s, so should be a nice racing track.

Legitimate Whoop Section? Check

The usual combos/rhythm sections? Check

The Obligatory 4X Triples run? Check

Looks like the typical modern SX track, to me.

I guess that's my point. lol I don't think it looks bad...but I would like to see some more split sections and creative rhythm sections.

I will admit, that flat track turn across the straight could be fun for sure!

Looks a hell of a lot better than the A1 track layout and that worked out beautifully... Both whoops sections at A1 were less than 9 whoops so I will gladly take 13. Long start... and longer rhythms look to allow more options. Should provide good racing. 90% of the time split sections don't work anyway.

Looks like the kind of track where the start is 98% of the race.

That's fair, but I always prefer the football stadiums to the baseball stadiums, so that's a given for me. I'm just a fan of options...I like when there's different lines to choose from...looking at the track it looks like it's going to be very 1 lined. Hope not, I could be wrong. Either way I'll be there happy to be watching racing and drinking 20 dollar beers! lol

Whoops into a 180 just before the finish line - good for racing

Long rhythm lane - good for racing

A lot of 180's - good for racing

It's not spectacular on paper but should make for good racing.

Also, the riders and mechanics on the starting line are going to be roosted hard by that sweeper!

Think the start straight turn will affect the gates on either side of the doghouse?  think a rut will build and cause momentary loss of traction when coming out of the gate?  Potential benefit for those outside of the doghouse/rut?.... .  thoughts?....

That's a good point...it's kind of a double edge sword. If they smooth it out before each main, then the first few laps are going to be sketchy around that turn...but if they don't...there's going to be a little hop on the start for everyone in the rut zone. It'll be interesting to see what the do.

That huge turn across the start straight looks awesome.

If they leave it wide like it is in the drawing, it will be epic! Some dudes will cut straight across and forego the triple so they can block, while others will risk the outside for a chance to get away by tripling. How many t-bones are we going to see?

I bet they'll run tuff-blocks down to the apex of the corner to prevent that, though.

Supercross is like Taco Bell.  You're always gonna get the same ingredients, no matter what you order: Triples, whoops, and rhythm section.  The only thing you're deciding as a track (or burrito) builder is what order they come in.  That's the downside of supercross.  Variety is for the outdoors.

Along with what everyone else said and the weather we've had, the dirt could "develop" into who-knows-what in some areas of the track so it could add another variable to the racing as the night goes on.

Yea, it'll be interesting to see if we get showers today or not. It's not looking like it...but who knows. The dirt could be the biggest variable here for sure.

Looks a lot like SLC type deal.   43 second lap times.    Not all that thrilled.

Trying to judge how a track will race from a track map is like trying to judge women based on their looks....you never know kind of performance you'll get until the gates/panties drop.

I like that lump at the end of the first turn where the start enters the track proper.  Might be some fun there.

The whoops before the finish line should be interesting. I think that was the set up in the race where Jett crossed Forkner if I remember correctly. Jett was getting squirely coming into the turn right?

I would actually like to see the finish line be at the end of a section of whoops, just to have some variety. It doesn't need to be a photo op double everytime.

1/19/2023 10:17am

If they want to make whoops safe yet challenging, they need to put them right out of corners instead of following a jump.  That would keep the speeds down while still separating the men from the boys.

I thought the opposite, big rhythm, a lot of 180s and dragons back right before the whoops. Seems better than a1 , idk how it’s boring tbh

Bring back 2 long whoop sections of the early 00's. 1 SX Triple is plenty. And long rhythm lanes with more than a goat path for options.
