The last month or so since I finished my bike build, I've been trying to find another hobby to get into that's easier with having a 9 month old around.

New bike build is starting up in the upcoming months, but time is limited to be fully out in the shop so been trying to contemplate hobbies that might be more accessible for where I'm at in life and able to help destress once getting home from work in the evenings without fully ignoring my wife or kid.

I keep reverting back to RC's, but the last 3 or 4 times I've boughten one (off-road electric typically), I enjoy it for a week or two, get bored and end up selling it a few months down the line.

Preference is definitely something that allows me tinkering of some sort but I'm coming up empty. Google makes me think I should grow a man bun and start brewing beer which is of no interest to me.

Wondering what others do with their time outside of Moto to get their fix.

Competitive duck herding and extreme ironing for me. Not to toot my own horn but I’m undefeated in both.

Power Tanning....It's a pretty fun and family-oriented sport.

Ps5, hydroponic gardens, oops day trading is over after work, I just got a new wet saw for cutting a bunch of geodes I got from the wife for Christmas... I went to a hobby shop years ago and they had these small scale rc cars and a track built on a sheet of plywood that was pretty fun. The cars were super tough, very heavy and fast. You could set up moveable jumps and reroute the track and pour on a few drops of water and drift. They held races some nights.

How about mountain biking? I find this a decent moto substitute when I'm super busy.

I live in south Alabama. It's flat and options for trails are just as limited as for dirt bikes.

I have a Xbox one that I bought 5 or 6 years back. Similar to RC, I'll play it for a few weeks and then get bored with it. When they started making everything online is when I started to drift away from the gaming.

I bought one of the Supercross games a few years back, and game play is so different than the older system days that I'm just horrible and lose interest.

The one that gets most people hooked for online is online car racing. Honestly I don't play any off road mx games anymore. Only motorcycle game really worth the money is the Motogp series. That definitely takes some learning bike set up and how to race but once you get it its fun. But offroad I think more or less their all terrible now. But building a small car racing set up and finding a good racing game with good online racing gets to be aot of fun. It's been about 5 years for me since ive done played any of them but a ps5 is in my future for this.

I sim race on PC via iRacing, rFactor 2, and Raceroom.  Mostly lower level open wheel stuff.  Also recently started mountain biking pretty heavily as a way to cross train.

Some good ideas in here. With that said, how about knife throwing? I did this a lot as a kid. I have been talking about doing it with my kids for a few years and finally got around to doing it. My wife has really enjoyed it and gotten quite good (far better than me) and my 11 yr old has been out there every day for 2 weeks now. I shoulda done this sooner.

We should take the first step to mending our relationship by discussing mtb as i'm looking to get into it as well as a winter/rain day activity.

Of course, followed by a meetup...

I used to be pretty good at that. Been far too long but i still win something at the mid evil fair when it comes to the park in the front of my neighborhood. I had a big old cedar wall on the side of an old shed decades ago and came up with a game like baseball on darts but with Gil Hibben throwing knives and 3 throw location in the shape as bases on a baseball diamond. There was a time when my friends would boast that I might of got you in a gun fight with my knife.

I was going to suggest archery, but that's probably kinda early for an infant, which he mentioned.

Yeah,  I would second that and also add Japanese softcore.

I use it for playing iRacing. The frame is from a company names TrakRacer.  The controls are from Fanatec, and then it’s just a regular gaming PC and monitors.

There are much more extreme rigs out there than this one.  Folks are even adding motion simulation like D-Box or similar.

This was my COVID project.

Hobbies that would not lead to “fully ignoring your wife and kid” would be in the house with a child that young. Musical instruments, electronic music, cooking, model building (including rockets, RC planes, etc.), video editing, 3 D printing, Leather work, smaller wood working projects (miniatures, houses, etc.)…

Kids don’t get cool till they’re about 3, Thomas the Train and then later Hotwheels were big at my house and something I spent countless hours doing with them. I always thought it would be cool to make custom train engines/cars/tracks.

Your OG hobbies can obviously continue, I found myself in the garage still, less, and at odd hours tho. Don’t give up those core hobbies.

If you told me I had to quit fishing or riding, I would have a sincerely hard time choosing. But I think ultimately the bike would go. FCEBDA2D-E192-41B8-9157-520FA66090F6.jpeg?VersionId=DYtFak2QevASk7On

Wading in a Montana river with a fly rod in my hand on a beautiful summer day is what I hope God has in store for me when I get to heaven.

Buddy brought this over yesterday and we went through many magazines and this thing is almost silent. Sounds like a bbgun but very fun.

I've taken a small break from iRacing, I can never seem to get beyond 2000 iRating.  For every one good race I have 2 where I get run over.
