Cool bike! The only thing I'd really like to see, is all the same technological advances applied to a 2-stroke.

Back in the early 80's, I was looking forward to riding sub-200 lb. bikes by this point in time.

You would think James was the "factory" rider! Why don't they have the Yamaha "factory" riders debuting the bike? LOL...funny stuff!

He pretty much is the factory rider.

Ya that is why I find it funny. He is supposed to be a factory support? You don't see Tommy Hahn as the Kawie "poster" child, you see Villopotto. I guess that is how things roll!!

Hey, can I send that old MXA magazine you let me borrow to your shop's address?

Har! Pat

I am just trying to keep things in perspective here.

and actually Moto814 Steve Hates them more than me (not much though)

You can keep the mag
I found the same one here about 2 weeks ago.
Haha, no explanation necessary, Lee! I have the same stance on the whole thing.

Dude, thanks so much for letting me keep the mag! I'll take good care of it.

If you remember the late 70's you're in your early 50's. Laughing

There are no factory Yamaha riders returning in 2010 and James' is Yamaha best supported rider. No other 2009 Yamaha riders have a contract for 2010 except for Stewart, so he's their poster child.

Yamaha's lucky to have him and I think they know this. L&M pays his salary and supports him and Yamaha Sponsors L&M, so it's a win / win for both parties.

If it was just in the late 70s yellow with light gold rims instead of blue. Definitely the only 'interesting' new bike in quite awhile.

One of Japanese development rider raced his #15 2010 YZF450 last weekend, with DNF/8. It should have better finish when Akira Narita races a new bike on next rd. Oct. 11th.

You can see him little on Sat. qualifying video.

Why did Yamaha move away from the 5 valve head?

With the development of the 2007 R1 bike, they found that with the 5 valve design, they couldn't shape the combustion chamber as they would like. They were limited in their tuning with the 5 valve head! They have been using it in the R1 since 2007. I'm actually surprised the 250F didn't get the 4 valve as well, since it is exactly one cylinder off the R1!!

Thanks. I'm no expert but it seemed that the Yamaha dirtbikes suffered less from valve issues than the other manufacturers, and I thought that may have been related to the five valve design.

Yes, part of the 5 valve design allowed them to use smaller valves, hence less moving mass on the valve train. Where as the other others in order to achieve the same chamber efficiency had to use bigger valves, different cam profiles etc! I'm excited to see how Pro-Circuit is going to do their magic on the new 4 valve heads!!!

More video of new 450. It shows close up of air box and other parts. looks like you have to take a seat and tank off to get access to air filter.

These guys filmed all of Japan national videos.

OI is Takashei (we used to call him Taka) still riding over there? He used to race the Sunny States in QLD Australia, and have ridden with him on private tracks before.. Funny guy and pretty fast, he used to be ridding Hondas (not sure what he is on now). Would alwasy look at his bike having some factory Japanese equipment swinging off it.

He has come close before winning the Japanese titles..
